From the 9 original Conquests, which do you find more difficult? Why is that? And what can be done to win despite the hardships?

And in each of the Scenarios, what Civ represents the biggest Challenge?

For me, MESOPOTAMIA is clearly the more difficult - I had to play in REGENT to win it, couldn't do it otherwise!

On two ocasions I was winning and maybe got over-confident, but when someone else built that last Wonder, I ended up in 2nd!

And, on the fun of it, this scenario is too short! I start building and developing and finding out other Civ's... when I'm starting to have fun, it's (usually abruptly) OVER! :(

i would say fall of rome, as it is hard to win via conquest(mind u elimination rules apply) early when u have 3.1 warriors and rome has 5.4 legionary i believe. The actual numbers are off, but i find it hard. i was the sassanids and i had to wait for heavy calvary till i could take out western rome. its not like the other A.I barbarian nations help u out, at least they didnt help me out.

i think middle ages is the hardest. you start the game knowing almost none of the world map and your nation is always really small, wth no room to expand. also trying to get a holy relic to jeruselum can be really hard. but don't trust me, i never played a full game on this conquest yet. :mischief:

I think that some Civ's are very difficult in that Scenario, but I remember the Sassanids were a Civ I coud defeat the Romans. Not easy and only after Heavy Cavalry, off course. But possible. I think I won with the Sassanids.
Others are SO far away from Rome that is very difficult to win (as I assume destroying both Romans is a MUST to win).

I agree there, there is no sure alliance against the stronger, you have to buy them. And sometimes the romans are better at giving you deals than the other barbarian tribes!

Mesopotamia. Deity is really hard here, and maybe impossible for most Civs (it is doable with Phoenicians and Sumeria, though).
All other Conquest play like one or even several (AoD!) levels easier.
Well, maybe FoR isn't that easy; guess unexperienced players have troubles here. Let's just say for this one you should not play on a higher level than usual.

I haven't played them all, but so far WWII is
Sengoku is SO easy though

Just get Ninjas and it's good to go :ninja:

i say rise of rome, i like to play as rome, even though they can have a 6 attacker, you've constantly got carthage annoying you so it's hard to build up a big army, and persia is too big. macedon is really easy meat, so are the celts, but persia always pushes me back
u have to do it in phases, go against carthage with ur legionary 1 and 2, and wipe them out, by way of sicily and then northern africa.then go after the celts and macedon with ur legionary 3. by this time u will be so strong u can wipe persia off the map. its all about having a goal and achieving it before wars end

WWII for me. As Japan, I can't muster the troops to capture enough cities. sure, a few, but a few cities isnt' an empire

Are you using the draft? It is a pretty quick way to get some troops. Check
out the SG list of the scenarios, invade with marines everywhere possible
and you will prevail.

Interesting... for me WWII (together with Japan) were the easiest scenarios, I won with the Japan the first time I've played (Emperor level) and I didn't win sooner because I stopped expanding after a while (preparing for the CERTAIN Allied counter-attack)... but no REAL counter-attack occured, so I won without much difficulty... not like Mesopotamia, where I could not win on Emperor!

Napoleonic Wars was the hardest for me. I couldn't win until I played as France and revolted to Monarchy. Even then it was hard because I was always fighting and I had such bad luck my imperial cav army died attacking a soldado in a town on plains without walls.

PLaying fall of rome is easy. I modded the game to allow Western and Eastern Rome to be playable. Eastern Rome is definitly the best civ in the game thanks to the commercial trait. The Sassanids were easy to beat because they revolted to Imperialism but they had no courthouses no commercial trait and no money. So they had a huge amount of corrution and couldn't rush anything.

At the end of the game as Eastern Rome I got my first warlord since I captured the Scourge of God.

Of couse that was on Monarch because I thought that it would be to hard being in Imperialism on Deity or demigod

Mesopotamia. I hate building wonders. Seriously. On all the others, I can just kill everyone.

Mesopotamia. But I find all of the conquests besides WWII Pacific hard, I don't know why (perhaps the rules changes?) Edit: I won with absolutely no difficulty on Emperor, but Demigod is kind of tough. I think I changed my mind, maybe FoR.
@LLXerxes: Try mobilizing for war.

You can do this as well in Mesopotamia. Your best bet with Medes.
But I agree with this one being the most difficult by a wider margin - above Emperor. Below, it's just an easy builder's paradise.

Well, that kind of explains it. I've only played Mesopotamia once (Phoenicians, Demigod), and quit halfway.

Completely depends on what civ. For example, playing as someone who isn't Rome in the Rise of Rome Senario, you must bribe Rome so much or you will have Legionary IIIs raining down on you. But, if you are Rome, then things get much more easier. In the WWII pacific one, if you are China, your airforce gets wiped almost instantly, you spend more time wondering when it would end, because of the wave after wave of solders.

I found Sengoku Jidai hard because of the time limit and the position: I played as Takeda thinking they would have the same bonuses as in Shogun Total War ...

Which others have a time limit?
