1st turn as Japan

Cities taken: Guam, Aparri, Hong Kong (and it hurt), Manila, Davao, Bhuket and Kuala Lampur

I think that is it.

In other action

Bombed Honolulu rather pointlessly and lost 2 bombers and a zero
Lost a sub to te Repulse
Hong Kong took a tank and an infantry - I do not know why. Maybe another and I missed it.
Lost a tank taking Manila
Bombed other stuff.

This was a lot of work. Good nite...

To the best of my knowledge, I cannot rename a thread. I will PM the moderator to rename this thread.

Much celebration as some of the targets I thought were dead meat, got away. (A very fortunate break at Pearl Harbour).

Jap losses this turn.

Two subs on patrol near Pearl Harbour.
1 DD north of Rabaul.

No Allied losses in combat.

Semental and I have completely different combat styles, so this should be an interesting game. He was far less aggressive than I would have been (or was, see the other thread).

I'm doing this from memory as I sent Semental my turn that I played for the game against Donovan Zoi. (It seemed only fair that I not get 2 shots at the same turn as nobody else did).

Here's what happened.

Against the US:

Midway - bomber, fighter and sub sunk
Pearl - I believe all naval units based there damaged (most redlined), 2 fighters destroyed (I did it with naval bombardment mostly)
Hilo - bombed, but I don't know the extent of the damage

US sub south of Pearl sunk

Davao, Guam, Manila captured

DD west of Davao sunk, CA redlined.

Japanese losses: 1 fighter over Pearl. (Let's just say that some of my marine units are a little worse for wear too).

Against the Commonwealth:

Hong Kong, Sibu, Kudat and Bhuket captured.

Prince of Wales sunk. Repulse got away unscratched.....

Japanese losses: 1 Infantry Army (OUCH!) attacking Rangoon.

Against the Chinese:

Nanning captured. (killed 2 inf. there)
Both inf. in Hankow killed, but the city held with its last guerilla.

4 guerrilas, 3 inf. killed in various locations (mostly around Hankow and Kumming)

Japanese losses: 1 infantry

Against the Dutch:

Manokwari captured.

Japanese losses: none

I've taken a big chance at Pearl, but wiping out the bombers at Midway, and (hopefully at Hilo), plus the loss of the fighter squadrons at Pearl, means the US has to commit carriers or transfer in a ton of air units. (Incidentally I committed against Midway and Hilo first, without the successes there, I would not have committed my navy against Pearl).

I'm curious to see if Semental will come out and play or run like hell.

Not a lot to report. We will play with Japan when the time suits us.

US - Honolulu
Lost a sub and sank one.
Sank a Heavy Cruiser
Lost a Bomber (I noted this but do not recall the circumstances)
Damaged other ships and splatted some dirt around here and there.

China - Killed and infantry and lost one

Dutch lost a destroyer.

Commonwealth - Nothing significant.

Captured Puerto Princess

Killed 4 at Taiyana

Tenote - Lost a bomber and paratrooper, Killed 2 infantry but due to a brain fart we did not take the city as a flak was left. This will cost me dearly.

Lost 2 Zeros over Singapore

Killed 1 infantry at Tarawa

Shot down a fighter at Midway

China is in a bit of trouble (see attached).

Artillery bombarded Sian, followed by a Infantry assault (supported by 2 tanks). Exploited the breech with the (5) tanks I built last turn. I doubt Semental quite expected the attack to come from that direction.

Captured Sian, Lanchow, Chengdu, Hangkow, Boela, Aparri, Sangkoelirang and Tarawa. (Chinese lost 7 Inf. and 3 guerrillas I think). Also captured (5) Chinese workers.

Destroyed a Chinese fighter on the ground near Kumming. (My tank just moved onto the airbase).

Rebombed Pearl and sank (5) BBs and a CA. (Not sure why you didn't move your ships out of Pearl after bombarding my stack).

Destroyed a bomber at Midway.

Sank US subs near Davao, and near Wake.

Sank CW Battleship and sub NW of Singapore. (very sneaky, almost missed them)

Sank CW DD near Bhuket which had dropped a CW Anzac Inf. (which was destroyed by my units).

Sank Dutch CA SW of Sibu. Damaged another CA in same stack.

Total Japanese losses: 2 bombers, 1 zero, 3 infantry and 1 marine. Lots of redlined tanks & infantry.

Bombed one particular stretch of road 4 times and didn't kill it (ergh!).

Popped a MGL in the "liberation" of Sangkoelirang. The poor Chinese / CW can look forward to my replacement army somewhere next turn.

Quiet turn, just sandbagging defenses like crazy. Things will get much harder now for the Japanese advance.

Sank one DD in retribution for the loss of Tarawa. (Even after I had gone to all the trouble of defending it too!). The other DD in harbour is down to 1 hp.

Bombed some roads in China (none too successfully either, only about a 50% hit rate).

Sank Japanese transport just N of Menado (presumably from the failed attack on Tenate).

Singapore is toast on the next Japanese turn (sigh.....).

Allies

What can I say, we are getting kicked pretty hard. China is a basket case.

CW - Bombed roads and troops near Bhuket and Rangoon.

Dutch - Last 2 infantry in counter attacks, would have been nice if they had done some damage too. Can't recall the city, sorry.

US - just building and moving.

Japan

Manukwari - transport sunk, Killed 1 infantry and one flak, lost a marine but did not take it.

Danggala - found undefended and captured.

Wake - sank sub

Rangoon lost engineer and paratrooper.

Sibu lost fighter.

Captured Singapore

Taiyan - lost two tanks and killed almost everyone there but, sigh, not quite.

Menado - sank destroyer.

Obviously, I should have paid more attention to mainland China but on we go.

The Allied situation is going from bad to worse...

Puerto Princess, Chunking, Kumming, Banjoewangi and Ketapang were taken.

Losses by the Allies this turn were:

2 Dutch subs (W of Sibu)
2 CW CAs (S of Bhuket)
1 CW sub (SW of Ketapang)
1 CW DD (N of Batavia)
1 US CA (SW of Truk) - he almost got away the sneaky devil
1 US DD (W of Pearl)
1 US CA (W of Pearl)
1 US CV Enterprise ( W of Pearl)
Chinese troops (6-7 Inf, 1 MG - I think)
CW troops (1 Anzac)
Dutch troops (2 Inf, 1 Flak)

Japanese losses this turn were:

1 Marine
2 Paratroopers
1 Tank
2 Infantry

The Allies are taking a beating, no doubt about that.

Commonwealth - Sank sub off Truk, lost tank at Myikyina, bombed away a barracks at Tarawa and bombed some roads near Bhuket.

China blew up some roads around Nanking and Chunking and injured units by Siam.

The US is just scaring some fish.

With combined naval operations, the Allies sank 1 Japanese DD, 1 CA and 1 Transport near Dongala. A Dutch sub was perfectly positioned to sink the transport N of Manokawi. Those damn American torpedos malfunctioned again and other than a scratch on the paint, the transport managed to sail away. They won't be that lucky a second time.....

The Allies feel confident that the sieges of Rangoon and Menado will continue. The defenders hope to stall the Japanese advance long enough for reinforcements to arrive.

In China, near the outskirts of Taiyuan, the bodies are stacked up like cordwood. The Chinese defenders are short of everything, but are valiantly holding on.

Misfit

Relative to the last few turns, this one was kinda quiet.

Midway, Myitkyana, Taiyuan and Batavia captured. (Something like 5 Chinese units in Taiyuan). China's last two cities are under siege now. They will likely fall next turn.

Sank 1 Dutch CA (W of Banjermasin)
Sank 1 CW Sub (NW of Rabual) (I'd like to know where you hid that DD you had there last turn too).

Japanese losses: 1 Inf, 1 Tank and 1 marine (assaulting Banjermasin)

Misfit

Menado - Sank Destroyer, Killed 2 MGs and 1 Inf - Taken.

Boela - Captured sank sub

Taiyuan - I swear this place will be the death of me - Lost 2 tanks and 1 Inf, killed a bunch but, again, not enough.

Rangoon - Lost tank, killed some MGs

Donggala - sank Destroyer. Had to let one get away though.

Fortification near Hankow - Killed 3 Inf, lost one.

Progress is slower than I hoped but it is forward progress still. I'll get to the allied turn later, that is too depressing to pick up right now. :(

The Allied counter offensive begins....

In heavy fighting just outside Rangoon, 3 Japanese infantry are killed, 2 artillery forced to surrender. Capitalizing on the sudden collapse of the Japanese perimeter, Anzac infantry storm behind Japanese lines and destroy 2 more redlined Infantry and 2 tanks.

A counterattack by Chinese forces outside Taiyuan caught battle damaged 2 Japanese inf, 1 tank, destroying them and capturing 3 artillery. The artillery could not be retreated so they were spiked and left behind.

An artillery barrage destroyed the Japanese captured barricade outside Taiyuan, and a quick counter offensive from troops stationed at Sian destroyed 2 infantry and another tank.

Now if only the US forces could do as well. 1 bomber lost to antiaircraft fire outside Tarawa.

Misfit

Well, the Cinese and the Dutch are pretty much toast. The Commonwealth sunk a couple of Destroyers off Truk and Ketopany and lost a bomber. It does not look like there will be much of the Allies left for the US to rescue.

The Chinese discovered the "D" on the transmision and think its a big deal. But as usual, Taiyan is my black hole. Lost tank and infantry, killed guerilla, 2 infantry and 1 MG but, again, not quite all. My army sits exhausted at its feet. I am not confident about its survival.

Banjoewani (sp?) - sank CW transport, hope it was full.

Tanate - lost maring and paratrooper, killed infantry, MG and flak - captured!

Fouchow - killed mg and infantry.

Sibu - threw some dust around and killed a fighter.
