Like the one for the Alternate Histories, only for science fiction and fantasy. I think we really do need it.

Think a sci-fi or fantasy nes would be great, my only concern is that one based on a book or movie series kinda "traps" you into certain story lines and time frames aka.. this country is good, this is bad, ect......

so how does everyone like my fantasy nes ;)

This is somthing I shouldn't have said.

Your nes is great warman.

very good erez, u edited the post as i was going to make a witty comment on that.

I think we should have more fantasy neses like warman, i suddenly have an urge to build an elven empire from scratch...

Das, reply to my PMs.

I wonder if there will be more fresh start fantasy NESes any time soon...

Capulet - I'm trying to. You bombaraded me with PMs, and think I can look through all of them in an instant? Honestly...

Sure you can. You are the Great Das, after all. :p

Hmm... Good answer, I'll let you live for now.

Enough with the Polar Bears!!!

I might start some NES... but no one will join anyway so I guss not :)

I'm thinking a fantasy NES right now, actually, I'm in the mood for it. I was thinking a vaugue fresh start one, except with "plot twists" of my own thrown in for good measure. Also I would (much as I absolutely detest it) allow nations of dwares 'n' stuff. Sound good?

Oh, and this would probably not start for a while. :p

I think that better than a completely fresh start NES would be an NES with a history and a hierarchy, but in which each person starts with only a small section of land in a mostly-unclaimed region.

I think we should have more fantasy NESes and with hybrid races of Trolls and Orcs living and killing together. And of other races too of course. That would allow for much more creativity.

I see Cuivienen's point. Perhaps something like the memorable china444's project, you know the one where you wrote what nation you want, and you get to play it already when its somewhat developped and is on roughly 17th century AD level?

I am, btw, currently reading the "Prince of the Light", by Roger Zelazny. Anybody else read it? Its a really great one, perhaps a variation on the general idea might make for a good NES. I understand its plot as an Indian space ship crash-landing on a planet, where they use advanced technology to make themselves, the original crew, Hinduist gods. "Religion-technology" and stuff. (And then a "Buddha" appears to form an alliance against the Gods, and also Niritti/Azrael/Renfrue, the only "Christian" on board, building up an undead army. And so forth.) Perhaps something like that, but with several other ancient mythologies as well, like Greek, Egyptian, Norse and maybe some other pantheons "technologized" and put on that planet?

I have written down a more detailed concept of how I see it work, maybe I'll find it. Is there any interest?

Nobody dare touch the Alpha Centauri idea! I'm doing that one for stAmenNES5...

Sounds a lot like the Everquest children's books with all of the "real" gods.

If only someone would make that Song of Ice and Fire map I could start a good fantasy NES. I'm just not as inspired by 4000 BCE NESes or by Althistory NESes anymore.

Looking at those two maps, it's amazing how many inconsistencies there are between the North's point of view and the South. :p

Did you want a blank map (like a normal NES world map) with just the cities, roads, coasts, and stuff, or did you want it as close to the originals you posted as possible?

Not sure if I remember it. For no reason in particular I tend to avoid non-strategy games, with minimal exception to the rule.

Either way, here the gods are not the only thing that's important. First of all, the Hindu Pantheon has relations with the human states very similar to that of USSR's with the East European states, now that I thought of it. The Hindu gods also have that classical, overcliched "war on science" with the destruction of all those various inventions. They call it a fight with "Accelarism". The Buddha, meanwhile, is the Accelarist leader.

Basically, what I have in mind is people playing as gods or pantheons (perhaps as "religions", with polytheistic ones controlling several gods and monotheistic controlling one?), while there are also the permanent NPC "human" states of various religions and also various natives (the energy-based "raukshas", the insectoid "Mothers of Intolerable Heat" and other nasty semisentient lifeforms) and atheist/accelarist rebellions. Sounds like a NES to me, especially as it is possible to invent new religions, IMHO. Its a little like fresh start NESes, in that regard. There are the "known" religions, like say Hinduism, the "modified" religions, such as Nittri's Christianity and perhaps new religions altogether as well.

I can help anybody who wants to start one with the rules. Perhaps... dun dun dun... NK?
