This thread is for discussion on the name of our first province. You can give names now, or when we get our starting location. There will be a poll a day or so after creation day.

why not 'Abstainia'?
Didn't we have that as an idea last game?

actually it came about because when Zarn made a poll about the province name, abstain won... so some people took that as the province name

Fanashire doesn't commit us to anything. A simple, generic province name which is usable under all circumstances.

DaveShack floats a trial balloon

Does the capital name come into play in deciding what to name the 1st province? For example, what would be good names to complement a capital name of Camelot?

I think that would be Pendragon, the realm of King Arthur, or we could Americanize it to Pentagon, or DG6 it to Hexadragon, Hexagon.
Uther Pendragon was the father of King Arthur.

Cornwall, Lyonesse, Lionland, Avalonia (reference Avalon)

Taking Provo's Pendragon idea, and as the name of the county (the province here) is usually (when it's a shire, but not always) the name of the county town (the capitol of the county) eg: Cambridge & Cambridgeshire, Oxford & Oxfordshire, Bedford & Bedfordshire, how about:

Capitol: Pendragon
Province Pendragonshire

Camelot wouldn't really work well in this manner - Camelotshire doesn't really roll off the tongue.

well if we are to play the ottoman turkish civilization I suggest we use the name Cengiz...pronounced Jengas...meaning in Turkish..powerful lordship

10 Camelot varieties

Desert - Camelonia
Mountains- Camelottians
Forest -Camelovania
fields- Camelotannia
Camelossex
Camelotshire
Cameleonia
Cameo
Came Alot
Cameroon

I'd say we keep it simple and go with "Fanashire". I don't think we need to worry about having the capital city and province name match. No one seemed to have a problem last game when our capital province was named after a guy who doesn't seem to be on the forums anymore.

Keep it simple. Keep it understandable. Make it Fanashire.

What about Copeland Province? It goes somewhat with Camelot, and sounds pretty British to me. :D

I must admit I am getting somewhat bored with the perennial "Fan-as-prefix" default option. Can we be a bit more inspired?

Let's see, Apathetica was last game, how about .....

Chaosian!

Just kidding - good suggestions thus far!
