Before we can proceed much further, we need to know how fast to research. Do we want to forge on full speed ahead, or go slow? Even though this might be obvious it does need to be decided.

Well, I need to know what the people want. Do they want more money to upgrade warriors/chariots for a war? In that case I would have to concede and let the slider drop. I always go max science in my games (or max science with a profit). Also, it depends on what we research. I need philosophy discovered and its free tech. Discussion shows unless you can do a republic trade sling-shot, then grab construction. Once we're sure what we want, I can find out where to go next. I imagine government is important so I've got to prepare for that afterwards.
Man philosophy is a pain in the butt!

Consul,
I have been thinking about the overall objective of reaching 130K. I believe it in the best interests of the nation to reduce the overall tech rate in the game so that we don't face rifles and infantry, and don't have to worry about space races and the UN at all if possible. Would you consider drawing up a policy that not only sets out research direction, but that also reduces the overall tech rate as much as possible? mad-bax External Consul |

Well, right now this is what I see happening:
*Finish Philosophy *Get Construction For Free *Research Currency *Research Code of Laws/Polytheism *Research The Republic/Monarchy *Trade For Map Making Sometime This is my personal tech choice. I still need to start a discussion about what government to get. Perhaps after the next turn chat we'll be in a position to go ahead and pick. |

the way i see it is that we are in a prediciment. to win a culture win we need to be advanced to get the good improvements and wonders. to get that would mean to research high and forget an army. but without an army we can't expand.(dutch and indians are boxing us in and we destroy easily especially if we have no army)No expansion means no money, and no science output, no science output means no techs which means no culture win. so we need to focus on getting a STRONG army. which includes a lot of chariots for exploration? and a form of blitzkreig attack and the majority should be vet swords. my plan is to get construction and sell it as soon as the AI gets a lot of money. then either map making and then beeline for republic because of it's economic and scientific benefits or monarchy for there zero war weariness, and average economic, scientific benefits. I personally would rather get republic and take our chances with revolt on low ww. in conclusion, we get construction, sell it for tons of cash if possible techs, rush a military, increase lux slider to prevent revolt from whipping, the gold we accumualate from selling will cover the high lux and destroy the dutch while getting mm and beelining for republic.

We need leading military tech to crush the Indians and Dutch before going for any culture win.

This idea seems good but we do need to consider that the longer we wait to crush the Dutch and/or Indians, the more we may have to shift to a military mindset with our tech research in the early middle ages. This should also be considered, and I believe it already is, on other threads (with Dutch and Indian UUs forthcoming).
