The French Builders Club

demigod

I was a Monarch level builder before I joined this site and become a heartless warmonger. I don't think many builders play Civ above Monarch level or many Emperor+ players are builders. So maybe this game will *seem* new to both.

Map
- 70% Archipelago
- Standard size
- Normal Climate
- Temperate
- 4 Billion
- Sedentary Barbs

Variants
- Never declare war on an enemy
- During peacetime we may never build offensive units - those with higher attack than defence (artillary units and defensive naval escorts are fine)
- During war offensive units are ok.
- If AI wants peace, the war must end and offensive units disbanded.
- If an AI makes a move percieved as aggressive (ex: a stack of units heading toward your border), offensive units can be built.
- Allowable governments: Despotism, Republic, Democracy.

Open SG
- If you want to play, post a "got it."
- Post turnlog/pictures/etc 24 hours.
- Can play up to 50 turns at once.
- Can play multiple times.

Victories
- Diplomatic is the goal
- Space is the "condolence" victory.

Strategy
- Keeping a descent supply of defenders and artillary for the "inevitable" time of war. Simply rush some attack units to defeat redlined enemies.
- 12+ tiles per city? Not too squished anyways.
- this is Archipelago, so we need so curragh's.

I keep feeling like I'm forgetting something so, meh. If anyone has an idea to add, there is still time to.

Here's the start:
mp4f1.gif

3950 Paris founded. 25 gold from so-called "goodie hut." Researching writing for 50 turns.
3500 Meet Portugal and trade Masonry for Pottery +10G.
Edit: I built a granary a few turns after this.

nothing much eventful...

Attempted dotmap, red or blue seem nice:

lurker's comment: I've just achieved my first Deity (Vanilla) victory. It was a Diplo win, I only experienced war once, and this was caused by my failed attempt to sabotage Persia's UN. Then I easily bribed averyone against them and won in the UN race, then everyone except Persia voted for me. Don't you think I'm a builder?

*cough* I would but *cough* I don't have C3C *cough*.
I was just trying to say that you can come very high with builder strategy.

MP--I played 50 but made saves at 20, 30 and 40 as well. I guess this was the benefit of sitting in jury duty all day. Let me know which one you want me to post.

50 sounds good :eek: (I didn't think anyone would actually play that much). No one else has shown interest yet, so more=better.

I’m making $17.20 today during jury duty. :hmm: No cell phones, no wifi which means no work today. The bright side is I'm getting paid $17.20 to play civ today! :) I’ve found an outlet so life is good.

Pre-game We have the Arabs, Iroquois, Persians, Aztecs, Carhaginians, Koreans and Portugese. We know the Ports and they are up BW, CB and WC. Move lux to 10% and citizen goes to the fields of Paris. Move science down to 10% since this is a min run. I change the city to rax because I think we can get a nice settler factory going here soon. We’re not big enough for that just yet.

2850 Paris grows lux to 20%
2750 Paris rax -- > settler
2710 Paris lux to 30% at pop 5. Settler in 3 and grow in 3. +4 fpt. Not there yet.
2590 Paris settler -- > warrior lux to 20%. Settler heads NE. Better shield potential than the flood plains.
2510 Paris warrior Marcel -- > Settler
2470 Lux to 30% Orleans founded -- > curragh Napoleon sees lots of wheat to our south.
2430 Napoleon sees furs
2390 +5 fpt we have our factory.
2350 Paris settler -- > settler Lux down to 20%. Napoleon spies an island. Marcel pops a hut and meets the Khazak barbs
IBT Marcel is killed :(
2310 Henry learns the wheel.
2270 lux to 30%. We need spices.
2230 Lyons established by spices -- > worker
2190 Paris settler -- > settler
2150 Orleans curragh -- > worker Hun barbs are stalking Nappy.
IBT Nappy promotes, as you’d expect, on the hun attack. Henry starts the pyramids and finishes the Colussus in Lisbon.
2070 Rheims established -- > worker
2030 Paris Settler – Settler Henry would like 250g and 8 gpt for the wheel. Uh..no.
IBT Nappy spies 6 Port warriors headed east! :eek:
1870 Settler -- > Settler
1830 Tours established -- > worker Ports are getting too close. Rheims switches to warrior. Paris to warrior.
1790 Paris Warrior -- > Settler.
IBT Ports start The Oracle.
1725 Writing finishes. Since we are behind techs I decide to go philo instead of CoL. I don’t think we could get the sling shot. See a blue border with curragh. Set up an embassy with Henry for 36g. It seems to be worth the investment as he goes from annoyed and pressing our borders to polite.
Our new friend Henry......just in time!

untitled1.JPG

Buy a worker from him for 116g. Henry has writing too. Dang.
IBT the Port warriors turn turn and head back home.

1700 Marseilles established -- > worker Send the northern curragh on a suicide mission to an island.
IBT Curragh sinks. :(

1675 We meet the Koreans. We are up writing and pot they have BW, Wheel, WC, CB and 109g. Establish an embassy for 45g. Cautious to polite. He’ll have the pyramids in 51. Yeah right.

21.JPG

He really has nothing we want yet. I wait with philo coming soon.
1600 Wang gets math. Paris settler -- > warrior. I must’ve forgot to move citizen off the forest over to the flood plains.
1525 Shoot Henry lands on the furs.
IBT Carths finish Pyramids and Ports have to move the Oracle and finish it.

1475 Henry gets Mapmaking.
1450 Chartres established -- > worker Paris settler -- > settler Orleans curragh -- > worker.

1400 Avignon founded on horses. Lyons worker -- >temple Philo comes in and take CoL. . Ok here we go.
Henry has HBR, IW, Myst and MM. We are up philo and CoL.
Wang has Math and IW. We are up philo and CoL.
Trade philo for HBR and 3g to Henry. Trade philo, HBR and 43g to Wang for IW and Math. Trade Math and CoL for MM, 37g and ROP with Henry. We are now down only myst to Henry. Set a min run on republic. I may have made it on CoL but just didn’t want to chance it. Sorry. We have iron south of Tours.
IBT Koreans start MoM
1275 Besacon established -- > worker Chartres worker -- > temple
Henry has horses.
1250

And the satelite view....

Notes for the next player....
Marseilles needs to be changed I think as it won't grow in time.

I have some workers roading the iron. After thinking about it that may be not be smart. Warriors can be built without it and it won't run out if it's not connected.

We need more exploration, workers and military. Avignon has the horses. I tried to keep at least 12 spaces per city.

I left the curragh for the next player in case they want to try another suicide curragh.

Rheims needs either 30% lux or turn a citizen into a scientist and science to 0%. At least until the road is finished.

The Paris settler factory needs attention when it grows and when it pops a settler. The new citizen goes to the forest and needs to move to the flood plain each time.

I think that's all I got. A good way to earn $17.20 on the day.

1250(0)-I'd rather build warriors than spears for now, so I stop iron connection
switch Chartres to worker
raise lux to 30%
sell CoL to Korea for 81g so Portugal won't

1225(1)-Found Rouen, start on worker

IBT-Hmmm...forbidden palace
Marseilles worker->rax
Korea starts Great Lighthouse

1200(2)-Lyons looks like a good place for the FP

IBT-Paris settler->spear

1175(3)-lower lux to 10%

1150(4)-zzz

IBT-Avingnon warrior->worker

1125(5)-zzz

IBT-Paris spear->settler
Rheims riots because of lost income due to laborer movement

1100(6)-Meet Iroqouis, who are up mysticism and currency, down writing and HBR
buy currency for writing, HBR, 450g
sell currency to Portugal for mysticism, 169g
sell CoL to Iroquois for 487g
Korea has nothing worth selling for

IBT-Besancon worker->worker
lose both curraghs

1075(7)-Iroquois know construction, but it's too expensive

1050(8)-zzz

IBT-Rouen worker->worker
Iroquois start Great Lighthouse

1025(9)-zzz

IBT-Portugal drops off settler pair next to where I was going to settle
Paris settler->settler
Rheims galley->worker
Tours temple->galley
Chartres worker->worker

1000(10)-zzz

Notes: I'd suggest settling right on the spot or else Portugal may settle first; other settler also is unmoved
Somewhere should build some units; I figured a galley first in Marseilles was more important

I played ~25 turns a couple days ago and I forgot to save the log. France is now a Republic. I was thinking about going for Saltpeter for Musketeers, then going to Education next. Note: in this game, logs aren't necessary :p .

Here's a look at the land. All city locations have been taken. OCS:
mp41.gif

And our galley's have met up with the world:
mp42.gif

MP looking like a pretty good slice of the island.
If there's not a turn log maybe you can have people summarize what they did and how to proceed. IE built libs, keeping up in tech, etc

To summarize what I did:

1. met neighbors with galleys.
2. trading with newly met civs to keep up in tech.
3. filled the remainder of continent with cities.
4. focused on infrastructure: libraries, marketplaces,workers.

Normally (as a warmonger :) ), I go strait down the bottom part of the MA tech tree, beelining to military academy. In this game, as said in the previous post, I was thinking about going to Gunpowder, then up to get Universities and Banks and maybe a wonder or two :eek: ....built by hand... :eek: ...not taken over :eek: ... :mischief: .

...but that is up for the next player to decide :) .

I like it. A truly peaceful game.

Had enough of me, Meteor? Got it :evil:
EDIT: of course if Whomp's post is not a Got it...
