Hi, ppl of cfc!

I got fired this morning, and it was quite expected.
12% of the company (BMC) were fired, and I did need a change in my life after 4.5 years there.
I was a programmer then support on identity management/security of windows based platforms.

I'm not taking it hard at all, but don't really know what exactly I want to do next.. job and housing location wise.
I once wanted to program or be involved in the development of games.
I also thought to perhaps move to another country, but ain't so sure.
Teaching math to kids or writing math books for schools also passed my mind.
I'm great with anything that involves planning and organizing, and need a bit more human interaction.
Also, I would love to NOT have to work more than 8 hours a day, so I can keep a life outside work.

I wanted to sometime learn many more exact sciences (over my "math and computer science" B.Sc that I have) but I guess you need more of a finincial base to do this.. it isn't a job.. more of an antijob.

So.. any suggestions?
Someone wants me to QA Warcraft3 again and again? ;)
Someone wants to give me money just like that??
1000$ for any HoF score would do.. :mischief:

Jump up and down in celebration?

Start surfing for a new job might be the best. Also check out emigration opportunities and limitations.

Post your resume on hotmonster and other job sites to start getting other companies to look at you. You want to try to at least get your foot in the door at various places, as being unemployeed too long can hinder your ability to get another job.

I didn't realise you worked at BMC boogaboo! Me too (at the moment). I suspect my turn is coming tomorrow morning. Not quite sure if that's good or bad yet though...

 You (still) work at BMC ?!
What product/job are you doing?!
Perhaps you came to our Tel-Aviv branch sometime and I even saw you???

That's exactly my thoughts yesterday.. :D
I hope you get.. hmm.. what you want. ;)

First you get attack by a cat, then you get storked by a cat and now you're fired from the company? Wow can cats do that! Like dogs can eat homework? ;)

my friend had a job where he worked for a cruise liner; he went on rival cruises and complained and made a big stink out of everthing. so basically his job was to get paid to go on cruises and while doing that have some fun and make people mad!

thats the kind of job id recomend

They can if they work in HR.

-- CATS UPDATE --

This is NOT the cat's thread! But I don't mind :)
Cats can even make a live or die decisions for humans.. some big cats do just that in India..
The (good) cat gave birth on Friday, but apparently she was playing with me, since she mainly lives on the house next to me, and comes for love, milk and good meat.. I love her still.
The (bad) persian cat rarely makes any further attempts at my house but still terrorises the neghbourhood cats, and I can even say he deports them to other places :(

-- BACK ON TOPIC --

Got to show you a pic someone made.. I'll get it tomorrow.
I'll be on a switch of mind this weekend, then I'll begin to look for a job.

Any suggestions what could be both interesting for me and profitable to live ok? (and maximum 8 hours a day where the local temperature rarely goes below 0..?)

Start looking for a job, any job, else it will start eating into ur ssaving and its not good, i experience it before and it took a chuck out of my saving...

Then only after u start working, u try to see if u like the job or not, while looking for others. hurhurhurhurhur.

I didn't know you worked at BMC, Dianthus!

Boogaboo and I talked about BMC some months ago (years maybe?) and I told him that I worked with the "B" in BMC years ago. They were also one of my clients in the 90's....had many contract programmers working there in Sugar Land :)

I spent many years in Houston.....and will be moving my base back there sometime this year. :)

My ex-wife worked for Bindview Development, a similar company to BMC in Houston, and she just got laid off too......sounds like the software business isn't too hot right now.....in Houston anyways! ;)

I'd say join a free job agency like AppleOne or something and quickly find a temporary job. Also Monster.com is a good way to be seen. Head hunters constantly look through Monster for resume's. I got called by a head hunter offering me a contract job at Intel for graphic design. They went with someone else in the end but the thing with me is that I only have 3 months experience, whereas you at least have a good 4.5 years of experience in what you did, giving you an edge.

If you want a job AND want to go through an agency (viz. Headhunter), take your CV (Resume), Yes, Hand-Carry it PERSONALLY to ALL agencies that specialize in your line of work..........And ask to see the company owner or Branch Manager........Be dressed for Royalty........it can't hurt! ;)

Relationships are still EVERYTHING in business, even today!! :)

:(

Israel is a pretty technological place, I'm sure that that there are plenty of companies looking for people like you who have experience.

To answer the orginal question of this thread, "What's next?". Now you must react as the handicap mentally messed up person in Office Space, BURN THE PLACE DOWN TO THE GROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :j/k:

Hey dude,

Your life is like so over man!!
You must be prety lame to be in the most usless 12% of the workforce but maybe you will find a job that you are good at. :crazyeye:

I was quite useful, but recently only on half time job, which was good for me, since the job became boring.
It was the third wave of firing for us, so I DID skip 2 waves.
I was just the most potentially replacable person on the team, since they can give my job to another team member who will know how to handle part of it.
The rest of the job will be solved by India's development team.. who are under pressure anyway, but are more cheap

Funny you mention, but I CAN actually do real huge harm to the company by spitting a "never tell anyone" piece of information..
I won't do it, just because there are people I know there, and I COULD get sued, since I'm one of the only people (3 ppl) that know about this.

I HATE licking people's asses.. in fact I refuse to.
On the other hand, going for a job interview I will, especially dress-wise.

----

I could find a job in practically notime.
However, interest in my job is a big demand I will persue before giving up to some uninteresting job.
Gaming industry gets a huge bonus from me for interest, and even totally changing my occupation to something not computer related is still an option.

This is something that signifies the firing at BMC.. IU didn't make it. :mischief:

Shoot yourself. Your people and everyone will benefit from one less unemployed person. Also, world population is already growing too fast.
