TOUKON NES I : THE GREAT WAR

THE GAME.
This nes goes a very different path from the common ones. It is designed to be perhaps the first All Military nes out there.
The Game itself will cover the scenario of the Great war of 1914 (give and take a different american apperance and other details.)
Something different about the nes is that you are not the leader or driving spirit of a nation, you are either the commander in chief of the overall forces, or a field marshal of an spefic front.

THE PLAYER:
There are 3 different entities in each nation, the head of state, the commander in cheif and the field marshals.

The Head of state:
An NPC position
These are the Czars, Kaisers, Sultans, Kings, Prime Ministers and Presidents in the nes. But they are not controled by an actual player, remaining NPC. Only they can do diplomatic negotiations (such as peace proposals and the such). This means that a player cant ask for peace, his job is that of having made enough military victories so that a good peace agreement can be achieved!.

The Commander in chief:
A Player position
These are the Generals on top of the food chain. And for Nes purpuses they are the 'leaders' of the nation. They are in charge of the command of all military forces in the country. Commanders in chief can only have strategy related diplomacy with commanders of other allied nations. Commanders in chief cant declare war either, but they will be informed by the head of state (me sending you a PM) of an impending declaration of War. Similarly peace treaties cannot be accepted, however heads of state will commonly take the opinion of the commander in chief seriously.
A commander in chief can promote (or even fire) Field Marshalls.

The Field Marshals:
A Player Position
Some nations have two or even 3 fronts, historically The commander in chief has a number of senior Generals under him to help manage the war. A field marshal is very similar to the commander in chief eccept that he has only a selected number of units under his control. Nations can have any number of field marshals, but to be one, only the Commander in Chief Player has the power of accepting you to join under his nations command!.

THE WAR IN THE GAME:
Every update is equal to 2 weeks. There are two views in the game. The overall map view and the tactical battle view.

The Overall map view is what everyone is used to. All military units are present and are represented by numbers. a 1 represents 10,000 men, a 2 represents 20,000 men and so on.
(notice that armies that get really close together will tend to merge, but you can divide it as you wish)
(also notice thar armies include artillery, recon planes, and that good stuff)

The Tactical Battle view.
When two large forces meet in the same spot (or when it is strategically important), the udpate will also include a detailed view of the battlefield, army positions of both sides, capabilities, etc etc.
The player in charge of those units will then plan accordingly for victory in those important battles.
Note that Battles commanded by Field marshalls gain an offensive/defensive value.
Note that a battle might not be finished by the next udpate, so i may post an update in the map and battle too.

THE NAVY AND AIRFORCE.
The navy works out similar to the army, numbers represent the power (not size) of the fleet.
For game purpuse, a fleet can carry an army that has an equal or smaller number. Example, a fleet w/ a number "5" can carry equal or less than an army number '5'.
Do note that a 1 = a fleet, and a 1 = a fleet inside the safety of a port.
Submarines work differently and ill update the rules when subs do appear.
Armies have levels of training and equipment, these are increased upon events (go to events)
Armies that are not moving or havent move, receive a bonus on defence.

The Airforce during this time is neglible, and so will be considered part of the army, working primarily as reconossance. there are several ecceptions. (Go to 'events')

Now you are thinking.......
"YEAH YEAH...... but how much to build armies!?, hows the economy grown?, do i have research stuff like subs and planes?. good mods put this at the top of the rules!."

Well...... you dont. You are not the head of the nation, you are just a simple military commander. Therefore you dont have to worry about economy, research, education, culture or production at all.
This is done automatically and most efficiently as historically possible.
New Armies and fleets will appear on the map automatically (location where armies were recruited or ships built). once they appear on the map, they are yours to control and that is it. Most likely you will receive new troops every turn.
For the rest go to 'events'.

EVENTS:
War Declarations: Some nations start neutral, and what side choosen will not be decided by the player, but the head of state. you will receive a PM concerning this for you to prepare.

Mobilization: Upon completing war mobilization, your nation will field a large number of men and several armies will be raised. After mobilization is complete, you will continue to get new armies (in a much smaller scale tough) every turn.

New Technology development: When time is ripe (actual historical date, or logical/realistic) your nation will be able to build or use new forms of weapons. (you cant 'encourage' these events to happen faster, so dont bother asking). This includes upgrading training and equipment upgrade.

Those would be the first events seen, and common, but there will be several kinds of events in which the players have choices. Most events will result on how the war is going in combination of individual decisions and the plots of the players stories. (most events are historical, not resulting from story-making.)

STORIES?!
Stories are very very encouraged, but not necessary. however those that write stories will have more fun considering the fact that they will receive more interesting events than those that do not.

HOW TO SEND ORDERS!~
everyone sends their indivual orders, no need to have the field marshal player having to send their orders to the commander in chief so theres one PM of orders per nation. I expect a map for every set of orders since the nature of the nes demands it.(also, you dont have have to listen to the commander in chiefs over all strategy if you are a field marshal, do what you think is best)

HOW TO JOIN!~
To join as a commander in chief look for the nations that are open and do not have a commander in chief already.
To join as a field marshal, contact the commander in chief of the nation, is their decision to let you join, not mine.
Cant join NPC closed nations
Upon joining, please make up a REALISTIC name for your character of commander in chief or field marshal, historic is recomended.

altough you can always wait, i am pretty sure half of the players that reserved nations will drop out faster than france in ww2.

remember not to join if you are busy or on too many neses already.

go check out
www.firstworldwar.com
remember that some stuff like tanks, gas and subs are not appearing at least until their historical date.

WORLD MAP!

The officer walked on fast speed, Lee's confederate army of north Virginia was in the process of crossing into Maryland on his way to Pennsylvania. The union forces had been just battered at the second Manassas; one more big victory might bring the Confederacy official British, French and Prussian recognition. But the officer did not have time to think about that, he had to push his men forward. Suddenly he dropped his ciggar box, in it was special orders no 191. Inside were every detail of the campaign. If the union had their hands on those, history would have turned different. But his attention was brought to him again, a strange individual reached down for the box of cigars and returned them to the officer. the man had very broken english, and sounded like the prussian advisors he once talked to. The only thing he got from the stranger was a name, von Dunkelheit. He had claimed to being lost, but was going to leave this time and place as something recharged. But the officer did not have time to talk to a foreign lunatic, he said thanks for telling him of the orders that were almost lost and kept advancing with his army...

On a gloomy New Year's Day 1863, a melancholy Lincoln called the republican congressional leaders and state governors to the white house. "This is not the duty i had hoped to discharge today," he told them. "Last july I decided to issue a proclamation freeing the slaves in rebel states, to take effect today," he continued sadly. "There is no change of that now. Would my word free the slaves, when I cannot even enforce the constitution in the rebel states?" instead, "we are faced with a situation in which the whole world seems to be against us. Last summer, after McClellan was driven back from Richmond, i said that spite of that setback, "I expect to maintain this contest until succesful, or till I die, or am conquered, or my term expires, or congress or the country forsakes me.' Gentlemen, the people expresed their opinion in the last election. The country has forsaken us, and the next Congress will be agaisnt us. Wheter or not we admit we are conquered, we must admit that we have failed to conquer the rebellion. today i will issue a proclamation accepting the insurgents' offer of an armistice. Secretary Seward wil accept the good offices of Prussia for mediation." The Presidents voice chocked as he continued: "Gentlemen, the United states no longer exists as one nation, Indivisible."

Over five decades passed, And the world was considerably different in North America, the CSA had ironically enforced the 'Monroe' doctrine as French leaders wanted to intervene in Mexico. Texas left the Confederation, but remained extremely close to it. The republic of California seceded from the Union in 1878 after the McDowell affair. Spain sold Cuba to the confederates in 1899. Canada became a dominion and eventually a nation, altough having problems with the french speaking of Quebec. In 1887 the CSA gave gradual freedom to slaves, this as every other civilized nation had done so, and it was only natural for its eventual arrival, those slaves turned into farmers. This as the South was no longer one w/ an agricultural base of economy. Like the north, the railroad and factories boomed.

TODAY....
The year is 1914, for one hundred years the european continent has remained in peace. No wars of the magnitude of the napoleonic ones have since been seen. Nations grow stronger just to be countered by ever growing webs of alliences. The recent July crisis has shown that Europe is ripe for war and the old era and balance of power in europe has come to an end. Following the explosion in europe, the americas quickly followed, fueled by grudges, territorial claims, and mere imperialism, the war will not remain a mere european conflict.

It is time for a new world order to rise. To be a victor one must be a great General, Warrior and Strategist.
Let the Great war Beggin!.

THE GREAT WAR as of August 2, 1914.

GERMANY, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY, BULGARIA, OTTOMAN EMPIRE, CONFEDERACY AND MEXICO

- The Black Hand holds the gun, The Devil takes his Run -
June 28th, 1914

The incident that provoked World War 1 was the assassination of the heir to the Habsburg throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and his wife, Duchess Sophie. The underlying causes of the war, were of course, more complex and of longer standing. Yet on 28 June 1914, the day of the double murder, a crisis began which seemed to lead inexorably to war.

The fact that Habsburg royalty were on that date in Sarajevo, capital of the Austrian province of Bosnia-Herzegovina and neighbour of independent Serbia, was a needless provocation. Serbia's greatest national festival, commemorating St. Vitus and the medieval battle of Kosovo, was held on the 28 June. But 28 June was also the fourteenth wedding anniversary of the Archduke and his wife. Franz Ferdinand's visit to Bosnia in his capacity of inspector general of the Austro-Hungarian armed forces gave him the chance to appear in public ceremonially with his beloved Sophie. In Vienna, on the other hand, the Duchess led a socially withdrawn life under the shadow of imperial disapproval of their marriage, since Sophie's rank was considered too low for marriage to the heir to the throne. So, ironically, it was Sophie's wedding anniversary treat that led her to death beside her husband.

Duchess Sophie had arrived in Bosnia with forebodings of what was to come. She recalled that one of the leaders of the Bosnian assembly or Sabor had warned that the visit should be canceled because of pan-South Slav feeling in the province, provoked by Serbia. Despite this and other warnings, the visit had to take place. Cancellation would have seemed admission of Austrian nervousness. Yet the police protection of the imperial party was minimal, and but for the haphazard arrangements the badly organised assassination attempt would never have succeeded.

--------

Sunday 28 June, was a bright and sunny morning in Sarajevo as the royal train pulled into the station. On hand to greet the royal couple was General Oskar Potiorek, military governor of Bosnia. Confusion occurred almost immediately. The first car in the procession was intended for security detectives, but somehow all but one of them was left behind at the station and only three local police officers were present. Security arrangements were bungled from the beginning.

The Archduke, his consort, and General Potiorek traveled in an open Viennese sports car. As they drove along Appel Quay, the Archduke, whose attitude towards attempts on his life was rather fatalistic, requested that the car be driven slowly so that he could have a good look at his surroundings. Although the crowds were thin, a few cheers rang out as the procession passed. Near the central police station, as General Potiorek was pointing out a new army barracks, a tall young man, Cabrinovic, suddenly hurled a hand grenade directly at the sports car from a nearby group of onlookers. The grenade bounced off the folded roof of the car and fell into the street, exploding under the next car in the procession and wounding several officers and about twenty of the crowd. As the Archduke's chauffeur accelerated towards the town hall, however, Franz Ferdinand ordered a halt to see who had been injured by the attack. Until this was ascertained, the imperial car was a sitting target for a further assassination attempt. It was now discovered that Duchess Spohie's neck had been grazed, but she was otherwise unhurt.

The Archduke arrived at the town hall in an outraged mood. His wife's celebration had been spoiled. He immediately decided to visit one of the officers by the grenade, who had been taken to a military hospital. The visit to a local museum would then proceed as arranged. Duchess Sophie had not originally intended to visit the museum, but now she insisted on remaining with her husband.

Setting out again, the imperial procession drove along Appel Quay at high speed. At this point another curious error occurred : evidently the chauffeurs had not been informed of the unscheduled visit to the hospital, for the first car turned right at the corner of Appel Quay and Franz Josef Street, and the second car followed. Potiorek shouted angrily to the driver of the third car that he was making a mistake, The chauffeur braked sharply, and the car stopped. At that very moment a short young Bosnian, Gavrilo Princip, took out a revolver. A policeman tried frantically to grab his hand, but was struck by someone nearby. Emerging from the crowd at a distance of only four of five paces, Pricip fired twice into the car. The first bullet mortally wounded the Archduke in the jugular vein. The second bullet entered the Duchess's abdomen. Duchess Sophie sank to the floor, her face between her husbands knees. The Archduke murmured, 'Sofie, Sofie, don't die. Live for the children!' Then he passed into unconsciousness. The car raced towards the Konak, Governor Potiorek's official residence, but the bumpy drive only worsened their condition, and the royal couple were pronounced dead shortly after arrival. As the bells of Sarajevo began to toll, none could have realized that their mournful clamour heralded four years of bloodshed and the death of millions.
