TOUKON NES I : THE GREAT WAR

-Created by Stalin006

THE GAME.
This nes goes a very different path from the common ones. It is designed to be perhaps the first All Military nes out there.
The Game itself will cover the scenario of the Great war of 1914 (give and take a different american apperance and other details.)
Something different about the nes is that you are not the leader or driving spirit of a nation, you are either the commander in chief of the overall forces, or a field marshal of an spefic front.

THE PLAYER:
There are 3 different entities in each nation, the head of state, the commander in cheif and the field marshals.

The Head of state:
An NPC position
These are the Czars, Kaisers, Sultans, Kings, Prime Ministers and Presidents in the nes. But they are not controled by an actual player, remaining NPC. Only they can do diplomatic negotiations (such as peace proposals and the such). This means that a player cant ask for peace, his job is that of having made enough military victories so that a good peace agreement can be achieved!.

The Commander in chief:
A Player position
These are the Generals on top of the food chain. And for Nes purpuses they are the 'leaders' of the nation. They are in charge of the command of all military forces in the country. Commanders in chief can only have strategy related diplomacy with commanders of other allied nations. Commanders in chief cant declare war either, but they will be informed by the head of state (me sending you a PM) of an impending declaration of War. Similarly peace treaties cannot be accepted, however heads of state will commonly take the opinion of the commander in chief seriously.
A commander in chief can promote (or even fire) Field Marshalls.

The Field Marshals:
A Player Position
Some nations have two or even 3 fronts, historically The commander in chief has a number of senior Generals under him to help manage the war. A field marshal is very similar to the commander in chief eccept that he has only a selected number of units under his control. Nations can have any number of field marshals, but to be one, only the Commander in Chief Player has the power of accepting you to join under his nations command!.

THE WAR IN THE GAME:
Every update is equal to 2 weeks. There are two views in the game. The overall map view and the tactical battle view.

The Overall map view is what everyone is used to. All military units are present and are represented by numbers. a 1 represents 10,000 men, a 2 represents 20,000 men and so on.
(notice that armies that get really close together will tend to merge, but you can divide it as you wish)
(also notice thar armies include artillery, recon planes, and that good stuff)

The Tactical Battle view.
When two large forces meet in the same spot (or when it is strategically important), the udpate will also include a detailed view of the battlefield, army positions of both sides, capabilities, etc etc.
The player in charge of those units will then plan accordingly for victory in those important battles.
Note that Battles commanded by Field marshalls gain an offensive/defensive value.
Note that a battle might not be finished by the next udpate, so i may post an update in the map and battle too.

THE NAVY AND AIRFORCE.
The navy works out similar to the army, numbers represent the power (not size) of the fleet.
For game purpuse, a fleet can carry an army that has an equal or smaller number. Example, a fleet w/ a number "5" can carry equal or less than an army number '5'.
Do note that a 1 = a fleet, and a 1 = a fleet inside the safety of a port.
Submarines work differently and ill update the rules when subs do appear.
Armies have levels of training and equipment, these are increased upon events (go to events)
Armies that are not moving or havent move, receive a bonus on defence.

The Airforce during this time is neglible, and so will be considered part of the army, working primarily as reconossance. there are several ecceptions. (Go to 'events')

Now you are thinking.......
"YEAH YEAH...... but how much to build armies!?, hows the economy grown?, do i have research stuff like subs and planes?. good mods put this at the top of the rules!."

Well...... you dont. You are not the head of the nation, you are just a simple military commander. Therefore you dont have to worry about economy, research, education, culture or production at all.
This is done automatically and most efficiently as historically possible.
New Armies and fleets will appear on the map automatically (location where armies were recruited or ships built). once they appear on the map, they are yours to control and that is it. Most likely you will receive new troops every turn.
For the rest go to 'events'.

EVENTS:
War Declarations: Some nations start neutral, and what side choosen will not be decided by the player, but the head of state. you will receive a PM concerning this for you to prepare.

Mobilization: Upon completing war mobilization, your nation will field a large number of men and several armies will be raised. After mobilization is complete, you will continue to get new armies (in a much smaller scale tough) every turn.

New Technology development: When time is ripe (actual historical date, or logical/realistic) your nation will be able to build or use new forms of weapons. (you cant 'encourage' these events to happen faster, so dont bother asking). This includes upgrading training and equipment upgrade.

Those would be the first events seen, and common, but there will be several kinds of events in which the players have choices. Most events will result on how the war is going in combination of individual decisions and the plots of the players stories. (most events are historical, not resulting from story-making.)

STORIES?!
Stories are very very encouraged, but not necessary. however those that write stories will have more fun considering the fact that they will receive more interesting events than those that do not.

HOW TO SEND ORDERS!~
everyone sends their indivual orders, no need to have the field marshal player having to send their orders to the commander in chief so theres one PM of orders per nation. I expect a map for every set of orders since the nature of the nes demands it.(also, you dont have have to listen to the commander in chiefs over all strategy if you are a field marshal, do what you think is best)

HOW TO JOIN!~
To join as a commander in chief look for the nations that are open and do not have a commander in chief already.
To join as a field marshal, contact the commander in chief of the nation, is their decision to let you join, not mine.
Cant join NPC closed nations
Upon joining, please make up a REALISTIC name for your character of commander in chief or field marshal, historic is recomended.

altough you can always wait, i am pretty sure half of the players that reserved nations will drop out faster than france in ww2.

remember not to join if you are busy or on too many neses already.

go check out
www.firstworldwar.com
remember that some stuff like tanks, gas and subs are not appearing at least until their historical date.

UPDATE I
Sept 1st - Sept 15th
Opening of Hostilities

NORTH AMERICAN THEATER

August 4
TEXAS JOINS THE CENTRAL POWERS!

August 5
CALIFORNIA REMAINS NEUTRAL!

August 5 To August 12
Leonard Wood's Initial Mexican Campaign Succesful
Field Marshall Wood has pushed into northern mexico and captured Ciudad Juarez, defeating the garrizon there. In the the west, he isolated mexican forces in Baja, from the rest of Mexico.
The Mexican governemt was slow to react and organize, however able to at least mobilize and move and move some armies north. Victoria Huerta has been called to served as the nations Commander in chief, the highest post a woman may have anywhere in the world!.

August 7 to August 15
Disaster!, General Douglas MacArthur's Failed invasion of Cuba
Douglas MacArthur's plan for taking the 'soft underbelly of the centrals in north america' was a simple and somewhat brilliant. However, he commited several intellegence and strategic blunders that almost ended in his own death. The Ameican invasion force was made up of 11 fleet task forces, four of which were for the sole porpuse to carry 40,000 men. The plan was to arrive at the undefended city of Holguin. The french were also expected to send a force of 20,000 men and 5 fleet task forces to help. From here Cuba was expected to fall. General Macarthur had encountered strategic information of some of the CSA's plans, and so he dared to think that the war was to be won.
But things went different, the second the americans were loading up the ships, the confederates moved armies in Santigo de cuba to Holguin, somehow knowing that this was the city to be invaded. they stablished fortifications and several machine gun nests. they also manned the city's costal guns. As the American invasion fleet was on its way, the entire confederate fleet numbering 7 fleet task forces and one texan one gathered in Havana Cuba.
THE BATTLE OF HOLGUIN
On August 13, the invasion force arrived, they fired at the city w/ naval artillery, and received no fire in return, apparently the city was undefended as hoped by the plan. As the yankees left the ships and moved into the shore they were meet with machine gun fire, some barbwire and 10,000 defenders. The costal guns then started to fire upon the ships. MacArthur authorised 2 great landings, but both were pushed back into the sea. Then the Confederate fleet arrived, the US fleet could not manouver as needed due to men in their landing crafts. The Numbers were on the Confderates side thanks to the Texan ships. It is unknown why MacArthur didnt use the entire US fleet for his operations, but he paid dearly. He was forced to retreat, saving as many men as possible and headed to Puerto Rico, (canadians went back home to resupply) confederates not giving chase. The confederates lost several ships, but the battle was definetely a Confederate victory, the Americans casualties include, 8,000+ dead, 12,000 severely wounded, 6,000 captured, and 3,000+ missing in action. (The French expedition forces are yet to arrive after 4 days lost due to the slowing down by moving the fleets to Bordeaux from the channel to load up the men)
... but the effects of the intellegence errors and false CSA battle plan maps Douglas MacArthur planned his strategy on, would not end here.

August 9- August 15
General Al Capone fails on several Fronts, Washington City Falls!
The "Confederate battle plans" MacArthur came into contact through unkown channels seem to have been passed to General Al Capone. Who apparently changed his entired battle plans due to it, unknowing that the plans were false misinformation. The armies moved near Springfield Missouri to "sandwich" an expected invasion by General Joseph Jackson (descendent of the famed Stonewall Jackson). But the invasion never came!, in fact the CSA armies moved to a totally different direction. Further west, Al Capone expected to crush the CSA once again in a 'battle of indianapolis', one that never came to be. Joseph Jackson retained a completely defensive operation, oposite of what some were drawn to believe due to the false intellegence.
The US forces eventually came to try to cross the river, but were meet by heavy resistance and were forced to pull back, having some casualties.
THE FALL OF WASHINGTON CITY
Al Capone had given specific orders to all of his armies, all except to where the actual invasion took plance, where the civil war started over 50 years ago. The Confederates moved quickly and easily took a city undefended, however the army to the west responded as best as its general could and moved to retake the city, the Battle for Washington City had started....

EUROPEAN THEATER

August 5- August 15
GERMANS DRIVE INTO NEUTRAL BELGIUM, LUXEMBURG AND FRANCE

AUGUST 7
LUXEMBURG SURRENDERS

August 5- August 15
Brave Belgium fights, but falls back on all fronts
Belgium fought bravely from start, and it was shown on German casualties and by slowing the enemy. The Belgians suffered horrendous casualties, but in some cases there were 2 germans killed for every Belgian.
The Germans pushed by sheer numbers and over ran the defense lines, making it to the skirts of Brussels.
If it hadnt been for the good planning and morale boost of its generals, Brussels and all of Belgium would have surrenedered, but it still stands. However most of its army is gone, whatever man defending Brussels lacks training and supplies. King Albert I, has announced that he will not leave and help defend his capital.

AUGUST 14
Battle of Metz begins
The Spearhead of the German army pushed through Belgium Luxemburg and france, only to meet w/ the French near the city ot Metz. This is to be a decisive battle simply because of its sheer size, numbers go up to at least to 350,000 men.

AUGUST 15
Battle of the Rhine begins
To counter the attack in the north, General Aymon Yannick has decided to push in the south.

AUGUST 5-AUGUST 15
Prussian forces push into Russia, Battle of Lodz Begins

AUGUST 12
AUSTRIAN COMMANDER IN CHIEF FIRED, GENERAL PROMOTED
von Brandenstein is promoted to the rank of Commander in chief as he shows leadership when the former commander in chief finds that he cant handle the war, and goes into insanity.

AUGUST 13
Battle of LUBLIN Begins

AUGUST 4- AUGUST 15
THE MANY FRONTS OF ASIA MINOR
The Turks were getting ready to invade Cyprus as soon as possible, the men were started to load up, meanwhile the first important effect of air power made itself known in the war. A German pilot went on recon in the east mediterrenean finding that the Brittish fleet headed towards Beirut. The pilot avoided being shot down and made it back, getting down from his plane informed a local, he got into his camel and headed to the port as soon as possible, yelling a rather familiar line known to historians (in turkish of course). Upon arrival the men were unloaded off the ships, and the ships tried to move to a safer place. Sadly enough the Brittish fleet arrived and completely destroyed the ottoman inferior fleet (altough losing some ships as well). However bad the naval defeat, it could have been much worse had those men were being transported. Both the pilot and young man got a medal of honor. The warning words?, nothing more than "The Brittish are comming".
The Russians came on from the Black sea, but so much hard planning was not to happen, the admiral took its fleet back to sevastapol for refiting, the ottomans had laid many sea mines precenting an invasion and naval attack. However the Russians will soon return ready with minesweapers. All this as the Ottomans push into the Caucausus.

AUGUST 9
ITALY JOINS THE CENTRAL POWERS!

Italy Declared war on france and allies and made a push for Nice, starting a battle there.

.....lots of other stuff i am too tired to talk about, write stories to make up for it...

Anyhow, here are the battle maps, you do your strategy on them, as for the reinforcements, it means that those are the nearby armies that could make it into the battle.
By update, the battles will be on Day 15, some will end earlier some wont and will be udpated again in update.
