Culture Consul Instructions - 90 BC

Attention!
This is the begining of a full-frontal assault on culture. We sorely lack it. Fortunately, all the consul seems to be on the same page in this regard for this term. Good. The governor has given queues that pay attention to our needs. That is excelent. Hopefully, by the end of this chat we will have more cities producing culture. Right now all I see is Oxford and Camelot, and Camelot had its built in when it was founded.
Culture declares that all is quiet on the Cultural Front, but things are going to get loud soon.
Dismissed!

Instructions CoAF for TC1 term3, May 4 2005.

[Preamble: I assume the Dutch are gassed and will only throw isolated archers at us. Impossible to say as TC summaries and even one chatlog are misssing. If not, we may have to keep more defenses near Skye.
Razing Arnhem and Amsterdam was approved in this poll. ]

Map:
TC0405.jpg

General:
  • Current war aims: Amsterdam, Arnhem, Eindhoven, Breda, Middelburg. The first two should be razed. The others should be kept.
  • We have 5 army groups:
    1. Main Attack Force (MAF) will follow the route Arnhem -> Amsterdam -> Eindhoven -> Breda, possibly splitting after Amsterdam.
    2. Secondary Attack Force (SAF) will quell resistance in Holwerd, defend Utrecht-Holwerd, and attack Middelburg.
    3. Core Defense (CD) will defend our core from naval (or other) invasion.
    4. North Defense will defend Ela Springs and Skye.
    5. Resistance Fighters (RF) will quell resistance in Sebadoh and Utrecht.
  • Do not station troops in cities with serious flip risk, unless you need to quell resistance or defend against immediate attack. Currently the list of risky flippers is (at least) Utrecht, Skye, Holwerd, Over There, Auchtermuchty, Chaos. Arnhem and Amsterdam also, after we take them.

Now follow detailed troop movements. You may deviate under pressing and/or unforeseen circumstances. Note however that these instructions attempt to achieve speed and balance of forces.

  • Main Attack Force, start group. Consists of the 5 vet swords and the spear currently in Chaos, the horse in Utrecht, the 3/5 elite sword S of Utrecht, the 2 swords in Skye, the sword north of New London, the spear in Regentham: total 9 swords (3 elite/6 vet), 1 horse, 2 spear.
    Heal first, then march to hill SE of Arnhem, and raze Arnhem. Should take 4 turns to heal and march to the hill, attack on the fifth. Step back to heal outside Dutch territory, then march to FP wheat tile NE of Amsterdam.
  • Main Attack Force, reinforcements. Consists of the 2/5 elite sword S of Utrecht, the elite sword from Regentham, the sword N of Skye, the sword SW2 of New London, one of the swords SE of Black Hole, the spear from Delhi, the 2 cats next to Holwerd: total 2 cats, 5 swords (2 elite, 3 vet), 1 spear.
    Heal first, then move to tile SW of Amsterdam. Timing should be such that both groups arrive at the same turn. This means that some of these forces have a few turns to spare; use as you please. Raze Amsterdam.
    I estimate it takes about 7 turns after Arnhem to take on Amsterdam.
    After that, heal. If number of swords is at least 10, then split in 2 (evenly), march one group on Eindhoven, one on Breda. Otherwise, first Eindhoven, then Breda. Attack Breda from the correct riverside.
  • Secondary Attack Force. Consists of 1 horse, 4 sword in or next to Holwerd, the spear and sword in Utrecht, the spear from Donsignia: total 1 horse, 5 swords (3 vet/2 elite), 2 spears.
    First task is to quel the resistance in Holwerd, kill any Dutch units in this area (if the visible one stays in range you can use the cats for 1 turn), and retake Utrecht or Holwerd if they flip.
    After Holwerd and Utrecht are pacified and there seem to be no more Dutch troops returning from China, this force is to march to Middelburg. Attack from any hill or mountain you fancy :)
    In case of need, Holwerd can now be defended by spears from Utrecht.
  • Core Defense. Consists of 1 of the vet swords SE of BlackHole, spears from Provolutia and Camelot, reg swords from Bentley and BlackHole, and the horse to be trained in Donsignia: total 3 swords (1 vet/2 reg), 1 horse, 2 spears. Should defend our coastal region as indicated in the map from naval invasion. In particular, shadow Persian galley and take out any landed troops. Move defenders out of Camelot to entice Persians to land, of course with the Core Defense force nearby. Stay on roads. Preferably keep stack together, but split if needed. Watch out with river crossings.
  • North Defense, consists of spear+sword from Ela Springs and will defend Ela Springs and Skye. I suggest to station them at NE2 of Ela Springs.
  • Resistance Fighters, will quel resistance in Sebadoh and Utrecht.
    Send spear + warrior from Oxford to Sebadoh, and leave reg sword there. After resistance ends, use as you think fit. I advise to move them north to quell resistance in Arnhem and Amsterdam; the sword could help defend in the Utrecht-Holwerd area.
    Send spear and warrior from Roosting Tree, spear from Auchtermuchty and spear from BlackHole to Utrecht. After resistance ends, use these units as you please. Advice: let them defend the Utrecht-Holwerd area. Note that 1 spear and 1 warrior should be disbanded in Utrecht as per governor's instructions.
  • Kamikaze Warrior: send warrior from Donsignia to Skye for disbanding as per governor's instructions.
  • Use any other forces we may have or get as you please. I would advise to replace the vet sword in the Core Defense by a newly trained horse (from Bentley), and send this sword to one of our fronts.

General tactics (you may know this, I just list it in case): our forces in our lands are to be kept on roads as much as possible. Keep attack forces together in stacks, especially in enemy territory. For leader fishing, elites should get as many easy fights as possible. EDIT: apparently the SGL will prevent MGLs :cry:. Use terrain and rivers.

External Consulate’s instructions for the 5/4/2005 turnchat. Specific instructions appear first; the Term 3 Policy appears next, for reference purposes.

Specific Instructions

1. We are at war with the Netherlands. We will continue the war until they’re left only with the cities of Leiden and/or Delft. The Commander of the Armed Forces & Governor of Fanashire prefer that we raze the cities of Amsterdam and Arnhem after we take them. The External Consulate has no objection to razing these cities. It’s unlikely we’ll reduce the Dutch to just Leiden and/or Delft this turnchat. If we do, a peace treaty must include acquisition of the Republic and Monotheism. If we’ve reduced the Dutch to the specified one or two cities and they won’t give us both the Republic and Monotheism, stop the chat so we can discuss our options. If the Dutch have Feudalism available and will offer it in a peace settlement but not the Republic or Monotheism, stop the chat so we can discuss further options.
2. We have a peace treaty with India that will run another 15 turns. IN THIS POLL Fanatannians support gifting Over There to the Indians. Please do so. The President may time the gift at her discretion. However, please remember that we expect the Byzantines to attack Over There soon, probably within 5 turns, so we’ll want to make the gift before we risk losing the city.
3. The Byzantines have attacked us. IN THIS POLL Fanatannians support entering into MAs against the Byzantines with Maya, China, Portugal, Hittites, and Japan. Please do so before we commence the next turn (and please negotiate the MAs in that specific order). Anticipated cost of the MAs:

Maya, we’ll give them 11 GPT & 12 gold;
China, will give us all of their gold to enter into a MA;
Portugal, will give us all of their gold to enter into a MA;
Hittites, will do it for a tech (COL) and will give us all of their gold;
Japan, will do it for a tech (COL) and will give us all of their gold.

4. We are 5 turns into a war with Persia, and have MAs against Persia with Spain, Portugal, and Maya. We will not entertain a peace with Persia until those MAs have expired.

External Consulate – Policy for Term 3

Our Guiding Philosophy

Our long term strategy is to annex enough of the pangaea so that our territory is just below the domination limit. We expect we will at least annex most of the land up to and including the point where the Persian city Gordium currently stands.

We will seek to cripple the ability of all other Civilizations to win the game before we achieve our cultural goal of 130,000 points. This also means we cannot allow another Civ to reach 65,000 cultural points.

Long Term Foreign Affairs

1. We are now strong enough that we will not submit to any demands from another country.
2. We will continue to establish embassies with other Civs, and will encourage warfare and disharmony among our rivals. Such disharmony will be achieved through trade and alliances.
3. We will not enter into alliances, trades, or GPT deals with countries we think we will be at war with within 20 turns.
4. Once we establish a choke point at Gem Mountain we will consider entering into ROPs with other civs.
5. Portugal and the Pyramids are a priority target for annexation. Through discussion we’ve concluded that an overland attack may be the only practical option. Thus we will need to figure out how to get there.
6. China and France will be likely be targeted so we can get to Portugal.
7. Our policy is whenever possible any civ that has attacked us should be left with one city. Currently Persia, Byzantine, and Japan fall into this category.

Military Affairs

1. We are at war with the Dutch. Our objective is to leave them with one or two cities, and acquire techs, gold, and territory in a peace settlement.
2. We will attack India when our current peace treaty expires and either eliminate them or leave them with one unproductive city.
3. War with China or France (still to be determined) should begin as soon as possible after the Indian war.
4. Persia and the Byzantines have declared war on us. Our goals for these wars is to fight phony wars and to use MAs to encourage other civs to fight the wars for us.

City foundings: Use the settler currently in The Black Hole and use him to found a city at the pink spot on the map. The next two settlers built should found cities at the two yellow dots up north. The next two settlers (if there are that many) should then found a city at the southern yellow dot and the red dot two squares south of Spichester.

@mad-bax: i hope it's ok i used your map.

R&T:

Continue a slow research towards engineering. If you have a reasonable chance to obtain techs leading towards either The Republic, or Democracy, please pursue them.
If you are unsure if a possible deal is good, either delay the deal or stop the chat for forum discussion.

The session has now been stopped to allow discussion and adjustment of plans etc.

Chat log

proper summary tommorrow after some sleep

Well, now I can say, "I told 'ya so!". This is why we have to conquer every single city (AND build culture!!!!), and not leave AI capitals right on our borders. Same with undefended border cities that the AI has a road too...

BTW, you do know that gifting Over There to the Indians just gave India a bunch of new contacts, don't you? And conquering the Indians will be known to those civs... not good for a diplo victory.
