Hey there, I know there have just got to be some people like me on CFC: decent players looking for a solid challenge who, for whatever reason, don't own Conquests or PTW. Here's your chance to join an SG! (Make sure you're patched to 1.29f.)

Map Stats:

World Size - Standard
Barbarians - None
Land Mass - Pangaea
Water Coverage - 70%
Climate, Temperature - Random
Age - 5 Billion Years

Civilization - China
Rules - All default, but no culturally linked starting locations, and no respawning AI.
Difficulty - Monarch
Enemies - All Random

VARIANT

Pure Always War. This means the second you see another civ, you declare war. No trading, even on the first turn, is tolerated. We loathe the sight of anybody who is not Chinese. We will never be at peace with anybody. Pretty straight-forward, huh?

No exploits will be tolerated.

The first person to play will get 25 turns, the second 15, but all following will be 10.

Yes anyone with any patched cersion of Civ III can load a game from vanilla. What I am not sure about is if once played on C3C and saved, if it can be loaded later by vanilla players.

lurker's comment: I just finished GA6, an AWM game on C3C - probably much easier due to better armies, but you can rush wonders in vanilla. For barbarians, I would put it to none. They are really a pain in a game where you'll be facing enough units as is. Also, you don't really want goody huts on AW to get your enemies ahead. At most, I would do sedentary.

lurker's comment: Also, barbarians make the AI chase after them, often running into you when you don't want it.

I'll sign up, 4 SG's? Bring it on. I may have to skip a couple times as I'll have conflicts with other SG's. Even if you have conquests, you can still play vanilla if you feel like it.

For civ, Iroquois would be best, but I'm tired of playing them so I vote China. I haven't played as the Chinese in an age. China has good AW traits. China may actually turn out to be better than the Iroquois.

Alright, let's do it! Just the two of us, we can make it if we try (just the two of us). I won't skip you. Take your time, and start us out.

I went for 70% water pangaea, seems like a good compromise. Decided to set the map to 5 billion years, too, so our riders can use their movement to their full advantage.

Here are three starts:

Tell me which one you like and I'll upload the save. I think you should play it with the vanilla disc in... hm, maybe I should ask for some :help: with this question. Lurkers? Anybody?

lurker's comment:
I'll be lurking, but add some comments.

For the starts, without looking at the minimaps, #3 looks best. A luxury, and several bonus grassland and a river. However, the minimaps are more important. If you are in the north / south, you won't be surrounded like if you were in the center and had enemies all around you.

Yes but in north/south there is likely to be tundra, worst terrain.
I vote start 1. It looks flat for our riders later on. Plus, start 3's river looks like it will end soon. Start 1's river could be flowing for a while, and maybe even have tributaries. In start 3, the mountains will be tough to work with the few workers we'll have cause we'll be concentrating on war. We may still not have developed them by riders.

lurker's comment:
In AW, you can not simply skimp on infrastructure. You HAVE TO build workers and markets/libraries (prebuild for the great library!), even maybe more than regular games. Getting your road network up ASAP is crucial. For start 1, while it is flat for riders, there may not be enough shields for you to pump out riders, wheras start 3 has mountains for shields.

I prefer to capture GL. The thing is, I'll have battles to fight, so won't have time to build as many workers. If a city is under attack, I'm not gonna build a worker instead of a spear, nor if it is in potential danger. I have changed my mind to start 2. It has forests for ancient age production, and a mountain or 2 more middle ages production. With a couple BGs, good start. Start 3, unless I irrigate squares, I'll only be able to work one mountain. It takes a couple food bonuses for mountains to be valuable.

lurker's comment: You'll probably build a wall... those are very useful in AW.

lurker's comment: Yeah, but remember that walls also give your city SoC - may be important, may not be.
