Game Full :goodjob:

Azzaman333 (GMT+10) Vikings
Greybeard (GMT-4) Byzantines
Killercane (????) Carthaginians - retired on move 106 (for tactical reasons )
Yakodi (GMT+1) Spanish

Killercane replaced Karakurom (GMT+8) for move 57c
Azzaman333 replaced bathsheba666 for move 132a

Huge, 60% water, monarch, restless barbs.

My personal bugbear is slow starts - so I prefer 2-3 settlers each to get it going and even up the chances.

Also hoping for players who can usually manage a move per day during the week.

I'm game.:)

My choice of civ. is the Byzantines.
Your choise of settings sounds good to me.

Good to see you two again.. :)

Waiting for one more...

While we wait, I'm fairly new to pbem, and have only just been re-reading newbie's guide to it all, and noticed the section on rules, exploits, etc.

What is your take on this? I guess we should agree - or at least be clear - on what sort of rules or conventions are in force.

I've not discussed this in any of my other games, but then they are all early with no real chance of conflict yet.... Probably I should have done this...

Only as long as the Spanish can't build temples.
Good to see you again also :)

OK I'll kick this off tonight.

But could we all comment on rules etc.
(even if it's 'I don't care' :mischief:
in fact, no comment = 'I don't care')

Could we also assume this applies to PTW_Alpha?

I finished one game - my first pbem game - and won.
But reading the rules, I'm not sure I behaved like a gentleman.

Although this is normal for the English ;) ,
I wanted to sanitise my approach  ,
...perhaps :mischief:

Perhaps you tell us the rules the non-gentleman in you has broken? And we tell you wether we like it or not.;)

The Byzantines decide to look around before establishing a city. :)

A gentleman would not ask this question ;)

----

OK, I had a poor starting position.
All the wheat, resources, luxuries, etc were by the other tribes.
All I had was iron.
So I built a couple of swordsmen..
.. and attacked them without declaring war first.

----

But the main point of my question is that there appears to be a number of things considered 'exploits'. And it seems that some people disagree on whether exploits are allowed or not. And some people think that 'a' really is an exploit, but 'b' is not - or the reverse. So I just wondered if this matters to us or not?

I've just been reading about another seafaring pbem.
(I really must do some work here... )

And there were two suggestions in it which I have not thought about before.
Please let me know what you think.

----

1)
I should have specified that the ai also take seafaring tribes only.
(Not at home at the moment,
so I can't check what we got,
but with random settings they probably are not)

2)
If anyone has a bad starting position, we should allow a restart.
(With 3 settlers, this should be less of a problem, but I guess they might all start in a desert.)

----

So if any of you want to request a restart for any of the above reasons, let me know.
Or if you don't want a restart, let me know.
Or you disagree on principle.....

I guess since we started without this discussion, then a veto should win.
..at least it should win over point 1..
..although if anyone claims on point 2, this might be seen to be hard-hearted.

----

In terms of declaring an interest, my start position looks not as good as Alpha,
but it is nowhere near bad. So I'm not requesting one.

1) There are only 7 seafaring civs, so one must have no seafaring. I don't mind that we now have 4 non-seafaring AIs. The other day I played a nice SP on emperor as the Arabs, and they weere a good seafaring tribe on this nice huge achripelo map with many civs.(If someone want to have the staring save, just let me know;))

2) I don't need restaring as it seems.;) But of course it would be better to do so instead of having one player on a bad starting position (but who asks the AIs?). But if we should have a restart, than I would suggest to look for a neutral player who checks the map before starting (just like Akots in Classical); otherwise we could have a series of restarts ...

The Byzantines have established Constantinople as the capital of their small empire.

gps----> Carthaginians

I guess that means we can live with our starting position. :)

Found a location for our second city. Two more turns before we can build it.

gps ---> Karakurom
