ok, let's take a quick look at our list of nations do war with. China and Portugal-- no longer nations. France-- left with a lone, useless colony city. So what next. we could attack Persia and take what's left of their crumbling empire. we could also make the Byzantines war a real one and take Persopolis and Gordium. it seems that by taking Gordium we would have a nice, definsible position with a very narrow border. since our future millitary will be very small, this would help defend our borders better. we also want to ICS and culture to the max soon, so we don't want to get into a bogged down war with the Byz, which could happen. what do you guys think?

We're actually up to the point now that we have to be careful not to take too much territory in border expansions to push us over the domination limit. The military point of view is that a defensible land border is a good thing, and we can and should go across the land bridge to raze (not capture) the key cultural opposition.

If we take Persia, and the two former Persian cities, we WILL hit the 66% limit after several cultural expansions. I would advise not to take Persia...

Also, we need 130,000 culture and 2x the 2nd highest culture civ to win.

I think we can take Persia and former Persia, except for Gordium. In this thread I have made some estimate of the tile count and proposed city placement.

We should get someone to take the last French city.We don't want any flips.

I wouldn't be too afraid of the Byz. They'll declare on us time and again. With rails and such, it won't matter much.

There's nothing to stop us razing Byzantium (or anyones) cities even once we reach the domination limit, just as long as we don't keep them. Razing would force them to start to build the city infrastructure from scratch again. Add in some pillaging and we'd certainly slow them up a bit.

I would prefer that we start pillaging cities now. Any wars should be about destroying infrastructure.

I think that's a good idea, at least for after Persia. Main targets: Maya (culture and tech leaders) and Byzantium (they're just asking for it).

Use our cavalries while we still can!

What are we going to do with France?

We are still at War and are now getting War Weariness. Every turn we stay at war we are running at increased flip risk. Thier final city is a way off - surrounded by Byzantines in fact. We can make Peace now and get Music Theory and an Alliance against the Byzantines for it. This would get the Byzantines to be the ones to take their final city.

Options for the Peace deal including the alliance (they have no gold):
1. MA + Music Theory for nothing extra
2. MA + Navigation for 217 gold
3. MA + Music Theory + Navigation for 503 gold + 11gpt
4. MA + Music Theory + Naviagtion for 39gpt
5. MA + Music Theory + Navigation for Chemistry

I'm not too bothered about the techs but we might as well have the Byzantines do our dirty work for us, so I would probably go for option 1.

Like Classical Hero said we should focus on pillaging and razing cities, this way not passing the 66% domination limit. I suggest pillaging and razing the Maya a little, but no get bogged down in a long war, it might the Maya down, but it will slow us down as well. Also, hurt the Byzantines a little and maybe destroy or weaken the Persian even more, MA's would be the safest. They make other civs attack civs. and take there land, while we don't get it all and pass the domination limit.

I haven't counted tiles to domination limit, but zyxy's calculations look pretty good to me: we should expand up to Gordium. After that we're still going to be at war, and want to encourage other nations via MAs; but we will raze cities, and won't acquire new real estate. At some point we should probably raze the Mayan capital in order to make sure they don't win a 20,000 point cultural victory.

I like Furiey's option 1.

Question: do we get a rep hit if our alliance partner (=France) dies?

If the answer is yes, then I don't like Furiey's option 1 :). (Or options 2-5, for that matter).
