Different nuke handling

Once the nukes are discovered, the game is often always finished.

This should change.

The first thing will be to reduce out-tech, to reduce the probabilty only one civ has nuke.

Another thing should be to allow automatic replies, such as ones would occur in real life. Nuked nations won't wait their turn to lauch their nukes  . One nuked = everyone nuked  . This would probably need a big screen to plan nuke response, bit I think this worthes it.

Nukes could be separated in 2 generations :

First generation : high cost, plane-carrying only. Like the ones dropped on Hiroshima/Nagazaki.

Second generation : like the ones already in Civ 3 ; relatively low cost, can be installed on ICBM, cruise missile and subs.

2 generations of nukes could give a chanve to out-teched vics to catch up before a big nuke meltdown on their cities.

Nuke use could have also strong happiness penalties among one's population, especially if unilateral unprovoked nuke :nuke: .

This would work well expept that they would have to make planes that only carry nukes. One question, would the nuke droping like regular bombard?

Good ideas though
:goodjob: :king:

No, make the plane, when without a nuke, bombard regularly, and when you load a nuke on to the plane, the plane can bombard nuclearly.

I don't know your playing style but I do build nukes but I never use them. It's just to have some extra room during negotiations. Nukes are a spoiler when used, I do agree on that but isn't that what nukes are in real life too?

Sounds like an automated defence . Well some units do that anyway when you attack them. They get to bombard you first. This sounds like the next step. The difference is they get to fire back once you attack rather than they attack first.

Think about this: automatic inter-turn retaliation! You lock the nuke on an ennemy city, when the civ nukes you, KABOOM! all your nukes crash into their core cities! I never use nukes, but how cool is that?

This is want I wanted to say by automatic reply

However, yours add more emotion with the "kaboom"!!!

Good idea Really there could be three levels---bombs, continental missiles, and ICBMs.

Well all thes suggestions sound good and i strongly belive that an automated response sytemn is essential but i till think the effects of the actual bombs needs changing. More than just pollution should be left behind that a horde of workrs can just clear up.

Just got this idea. Works a little bit like automatic response, but the other way: you can launch all your nukes on their target (the same as for automatic response) just in one click and [again] KABOOM!!!! Not a big change, but it is faster to launch the war.

There also a chance to deternate nukes in a city you think i lost. Its something that would certainly not go down well with your people. Unless of course you can point the blame at someone else with espionage or something. Even more stuff that could be added i feel. I remember in one of the Civilization 2 version you could actually try and plant nukes in enemy cities. Didt work very often and it caused a few international issue when you get caught but itscertainly an option for a leadr who will resort to terrorisem.

Was was great in civ 2 is that you could get nukes when bribing a city. I already got one! i think that it was going to it my cities soon, so I was happy.

there should be a research option to make or evolve the bomb... from 10 megatons to 100 megatons.

this way instead of sending 3 nukes to level a city, one could send one and wipe it off the map.

Yeah, every 5 future techs increase the destructive power, until you get these super nukes that can utterly level places and turn terrain into ocean. Perfect for making canals. :p
