Well... almost.

Ainwood was distracted by the Lions' test matches in New Zealand, and I sneaked into the COTM Control Room™... :D

And after trying France, what better than...

England!

World: Archipelago (what else!) 80% water
Size: standard
Other: Normal, Warm, 4 billion
Barbs: Raging ("regionally intense")
Opponents: 7 preselected
Difficulty: forget about Warlord ;) this is Emperor.

Starting position:

cotm14large.jpg

And minimap:

cotm14mini.jpg

Conquest Bonuses
- 1 Curragh and 1 Spearman to start with
- 50 gold pieces (this time they are there! ;) )
- Man-o-War is available with Gunpowder instead of Magnetism (still requires both Iron and Saltpeter).

Predator Equalisers
- Four selected AI are given an extra Curragh to start with
- Right of Passage agreements are available with Nationalism instead of Map Making

We had England on Emperior and on archepelago recently in GOTM35 or 36 :hmm:

But 80% water is nice.

Let's guess how starting position will look like. Any suggestions? I bet there will be some water.

Will someone remind me what England's traits are? Seafaring and Commerical? What are the bonuses associated with those traits?

England plays far differently in Conquests, though.

Seafaring gives commerce bonus to coastal settlements (towns, cities, metros), adds one movement to ships, and lowers the chance of a ship sinking at sea. Commercial gives extra commerce to cities and metros (I am pretty sure it is only cities and metros, with a larger bonus for metros) and lowers overall corruption in your empire.

By the way, Seafaring and Commercial usually both start with Alphabet. Since England has both, their second starting tech is Pottery.

Yes, it was GOTM 36. I remember that game well; it was my first emperor win. Here's hoping for a reprise of that one.

After playing COTM13 as a dream (on Monarch) I expect this one as a one tile island on emperor. Easy living on this one. :D
Hopefully we have at least a settler.

Sounds good. I didn't finish GOTM36. Should do better with this one, methinks - apart from the Dutch, there's nobody better for island maps :D

Ahem. The English are far superior to the Dutch. How in the world would the Dutch ever manage to rule the seas as England can? And who cares if you can fill your island a few turns faster as the Dutch, when your colonies will be so much more effective as the English? Not to mention the fact that Elizabeth has William beat in the looks department (though it is a tough decision to decide whether to judge William as a male or a female).

Hmm... Conquest or Space Ship.... this is a hard choice. Should be interesting either way. Raging barbs means I guess I should build some military before I start on a granary...maybe.

It's just a question of era:
After the dutch independance war against the leading superpower Spain, the Dutch golden age began. In the 17th century the Dutch were one of the leading powers. They fought 3 naval wars with the English in that age, none of them really decisive. And at the end of the century a Dutch prince William of Orange became king of England. (btw long before they became king of the Netherlands).
Then the Dutch fell back and England took over the waves for next 2 and a half century.
And the last half century England has fallen back and is no longer ruling the waves. So a little modesty would be in order.

That was intended entirely as a joke, and was speaking solely of in game factors, such as the English UU being naval as opposed to the Dutch being land based. I am quite aware of the real history, and would suggest that historically England's, and then Britain's, naval power was unparalleled in its range (in context) and longevity. Not to mention that William was mainly tolerated in England because of the popularity of his English wife, Mary. However, this was never intended to be any sort of discussion about history, and I am sorry if what I said was interpreted as some sort of insult to the Netherlands.

This game might largely be about 3-movement-suicidal-curraghs. Maybe a MapMaking slingshot with a prebuild for the Great Lighthouse makes a nice plan. If so, we might be able to be the tech-broker until astronomy.
Initial build will most likely be a curragh.
Just hope our island won´t be a large sandbank (made of desert).

Cool, just submitted my GOTM save last night so this cam at the perfect time. Plus England on Emp is probably the perfect start for me :D

So what dose everybody reckon, a start on an island slightly smaller than the GOTM one? :crazyeye: .

Edit: P.S. there will be no more mentions of the Lions tour

I think the Republic slingshot will be a cert. Usually is with the seafarers, just build coastal cities!

You might want to edit that, AndrewN. I think that is spoilerish.

You may be right (sorry).

I think that was the bit you were concerned about.

I second that, I even doubt there are many good inland sites on archipelago with 80% water. Could be a research dream with all those commerce.

I hope Karasu hasn't made this one more difficult than it looks. COTM11 surely felt more difficult then regent. It's far to nice wheater over here to play time consuming civ-games.

Depending on how the Tests go, an I may end up pillaging my lands, disbanding my cities and sending my units on suicide missions.

:rotfl: Well, it didn't start too bad, did it... ;)

BTW, I have added the pictures to the first post.

The game should play faster than the other one, although I didn't manage to test it to the end only 24 hours a day...
Actually, I am starting to worry that it may be too easy!
