After Tomoyo successfully posted the first International Friendly game, it was suggested in this thread that we could play a OCC variant as a second I.F. so here it is...

There's no food bonus in view but there is a river and silks to help keep your treasury stable enough to support a modest army. What more could you want?

Level: Regent
Barbarians: Sedentary
Variant: One City Challenge-Histographic victory
Civilization: Celts
Land Form: Pangea
World Size: Small
Water Percentage: 70%
Temperature: Cool
Wetness: Normal
Age: 3 Billion
Opponents: 5 Random
AI aggression: Normal
AI Respawn: Off
SGLs: On

MeteorPunch suggested that we could have 3 checkponts.
a. when you have the last civ down to one city.
b. when you have the last civ down to one city, and your score eclipses theirs...if it hasn't already.
c. your score at 2050.

Please join us in playing this game and post your game reports in the 'spoiler' thread in a few days time. If you don't fancy the Histographic win part, well how about just playing until condition 'a' is reached?

One final note: having previously tried a pangea game with this variant where one civ was on an island far, far away, I have played enough of this game already to know that you can reach everyone. ;)

Going by your game in the Tomoyo's game, you will have parts a and b wrapped up pretty quickly, MP!

Let's hope so!

Strategy for this game.
- research Bronze and Iron Working.
- get city producing 20 shields per turn.
- build nothing but Gallics. :D

If there's any lurkers out there who want to play, feel free to play and post later. This should be a fun little game at Regent difficulty, and afterwards we can compare and learn from each other.

EDIT: Forgot one! build a Temple first!

I missed International Friendly #1, but here goes with #2.

I have the game in progress, and I have one question. Can we hold cities for the turn and then abandon at the end of turn? Not only is this maybe good for armies, but also it allows us to use the AI's roads they built when we have culture pushing back their culture. I assume yes, but if not, sorry, I did it once, which prompted this question.

Thanks for joining GA! To your question, we could let your game be the trendsetter and allow this. I'm not far enough along for it to matter in my game, so I'll do it too. :p

My opinion, anyway.

Welcome aboard, Ginger_Ale! I think that what you have done is fine. I have taken and abandoned an AI city in the same turn through peace deals in my game. I did it straight away but my understanding of OCC is that as long as you end every turn with just one city, you are playing the variant correctly. (It is a friendly game anyway! :) )

BTW for anybody that isn't already aware, it can be a dangerous thing to take and then abandon too many cities in a short period of time because any unhappiness due to the whip/draft gets transferred to your city.

You could still play the 5CC game BTW and compare it with our posts. It's not like GOTM with a deadline!

Edit: we're agreed then!

Hmm, this may be interesting. Unfortunately with several SG's and COTM14 just out I'm not sure if I'll have time. I'll give it a look though.

I believe you would call this a relaxed OCC since other cities are allowed. I prefer sticking with just the one city but this is a friendly game. Now if I could just find the time. :)

Thanks for the ruling Tone and MP - I've finished my game, it resulted in a win (histographic with 1 AI city left). I'll take a day or so to write up a report, but I'm in no hurry until the spoiler is up. :)

I am finished too. How bout a spoiler Wednesday? It's really hard to say when would be best because we don't really know who is playing, but the stragglers can just post late, like last time.

You never know, it could just be us three that are playing it!

I've finished too, as you've probably guessed. I'm in the middle of something else at the moment but if one of you wants to post now, please feel free to start a report (spoiler) thread.

Hehe, that's very true. I've started this game but haven't gotten very far in it. In truth I doubt I'll be able to finish it. I believe it took me a week or more to finish the last one. Thoroughly enjoyed it too.

I'll play. One thing though, if you gain any benefit from holding a second city, however minor, then you have violated the only rule of this variant. That's just my opinion, though, and that's the way I will play this game.

Howdy Mathias. :wavey: I guess if anyone likes this type of variant it would be you. I agree with your reasoning, but there are relaxed variants as well, and that's what this is...holding cities is just another form of strategy, but I certainly respect your way.

I totally understand. As I said above, there is a price to pay for holding cities because all the whip unhappiness is transferred to your city when you abandon them at the end of the turn so any benefits do come at a cost. BTW would you take cities in peace deals and then abandon them straight away?

Can I play?
I'm pretty good at regent.

MV this game is for everyone, just like the 5CC challenge was. You are welcome to play as is everybody else who comes across either thread. Welcome!

Edit: The spoiler for the 5CC thread can be found here.

I wouldn't if I were going for conquest victory, but this is a little different. I did think about it for a while, though, before taking the first two cities with a peace treaty.
