Without that army, Carthage would've been extremely tough...well maybe not. The AI's in this game had a bad habit of giving me all their cities for free. :)

Here's my 3 important stats.

1. Enemy OCC'd: 50BC
2. Top Score: 300AD
3. Histograph Score: 247

Well I knew that you'd need to play on Monarch, MP. You're just far too ruthless! :D

You bettered my key timings on all three counts...

1. Carthage down to one city in 340AD.
2. Top scorer 960AD, although it was the Iroquois that were at the top for a few hundred years after their demise.
3. Final score 241.

I'll post my report later but here's my score chart for now.

MeteorPunch - impressive performance! You OCCd the opponent much quicker than I. Iroquois grew to be a monster in this game, as did Carthage. One reason you finished quicker was you used Gallics for your first attack. I took away most of Netherlands with archers, and while slowing me down, saved my GA for when my city was size 10, not size 6. It could then produce 20 shields. Anyway, a win is a win.

Tone - You beat me, so I want to see your report for what I could've done instead. Congrats.

If you guys had to rank the civs in order of difficulty to conquer, how would you do it? I assume Dutch would be easiest, as they were the closest, but Zulu were also pretty easy due to most cities were by flat land and had desert. This concludes my longest post ever ...

More later...

Ok, I've made a start on my report

I started by settling in place and researching towards iron at max. My initial builds were a couple of scouting warriors and then a second worker followed by a granary.

Bronze was gained in 3250, IW in 2510 and that was pretty much it for research until the middle ages. I popped Alphabet from a hut and traded/extorted my way through the rest of the AA.

One of my warriors caught an early glipse of the Zulu scout in 3400 BC but could catch his attention before the scout was off and away. My first actual contact was with the Dutch in 3150BC. This warrior managed to bisect the korean and zulu starting points and had to double track when towns sprouted either side of the path he took.

missing_contacts.JPG

He went back and made contact with Korea in 2590, traded with them and then couldn't resist sacking their undefended town. I wasn't really ready for war but it was too good too miss!

gifthorse_1.JPG

After no further action, I accepted peace terms in 2150BC and started my temple in 2110. Previous builds had been a number of warriors & archers after the rax plus a few workers for colonies.

Korea_peace_2150BC.JPG

The next few turns were quiet as I built up a force of archers to take on the Dutch as it was becoming apparant that with them out of the way I could fight on just one front. I was hoping to delay my GA until I could pump out a GS every two turns and I had yet to connect the iron.

I finally met the Zulu in 1910BC and carthage in 1725BC. I sent my troops towards the Dutch wines when I stumbled upon a Carthage town undefended. Do I carry on with my semi-prepared attack on the Dutch or execute an opportunist attack on the dreaded merc civ. I decided that you can have your cake and eat it-I attacked both!

Unfortunately the only thing my archers did was to promote the spears in the wine hill town and I was left with nothing but a couple of slaves

army_gone.JPG

I needed more power so I roaded to connect the iron and upgraded two warriors. Trouble was that by this time the Zulu fancied the turf around my furs colony so I had to declare war on them to keep my luxes safe and a successful attack on a zulu impi/settler pair kicked off my GA in 1425BC. I took peace with Carthage a turn later, accepting their cash to help my upgrades.

I then held ground against the zulu whilst I took on the Dutch and Ko'd them in 1025BC. A better planned attack on their first town would have saved me time and resources here.

Dutch_out.JPG

Zulu followed suit in 800BC. They were quite pitiful really.

zulu_KO::d.JPG

In 690BC, my forces had wheeled around and took on the Koreans for real this time, smashing a couple of towns and then taking a couple of techs in the PT 6 turns later.

Korea_peace_570BC.JPG

Korea then got on my nerves by obstructing my path to Carthage so I declared on them again in 410BC and then with carthage two turns later. Korea was KO'd in 330BC although it was Carthage that I was concentrating on.

I stalled at Carthage city with just one merc with one hp remaining. This was a bit of a problem as I had saved up all my forces in the area to make a decisive strike as the town had just built SoZ and I really didn't want to face a mixture of ACs and mercs!

It was a bloody set of battles but I eventually left them with one inland town and their new coastal capital in 90AD.

Carthage_PT_90AD.JPG

By then Iroq had declared on me. Luckily they didn't have horses but as usual I was being held back by battling two enemies at the same time. Not clever! I eventually killed them off in 290AD but their score would last a long time past this. I switched on research for Lit as I now needed to head for Free Artistry.

I declared on Carthage again two turns after Iroq was gone and took out their capital, leaving them with just one inland town. I took peace with them as soon as they were willing to talk and got Republic-2 turns of anarchy. (NB my save for 350 shows the with still having two turn so my notes are inaccurate here. 360 sav is missing but they were down to one town at the start of 370!)

Animated gif shows my game progress up to this point.

Oops, I forgot my animated minimap. It starts at 3500 BC, when I first opened CA2. The end is a bit of a blur as I hit enter so fast that CivAssist II couldn't keep up. :D

OCCmm.gif

This is the first time going for anything other than 20k by playing OCC, and I think the unit costs were pretty annoying to deal with. The loss of a city improvement or Gallic would've been pretty bad if the treasury ever got below 0.

Attacking early was very important to me. The effect it has upon weakening the other civs before they have a chance to get too big couldn't be overstated. My GA started before I was ready - I actually wasn't thinking that attacking with Gallics would start it, had I thought of that, I might not've attacked so soon. Entremont was building Gallics in 3, instead of 2 turns like I wanted, but this worked out better than waiting for growth.

I'm wasn't used to getting so much in peace deals with other civs...now that's another thing I have to learn a little about, the factors that cause this. I couldn't rank any civ as stronger, because the weak civs to me were Korea and Zulu, who fell fast, but the stronger ones fell just as fast because they each gave me all their cities besides the capital, which I could then take a few turns later. :mischief:

I read somewhere in this site that civs are more ready to talk for peace if you raze cities. I was amazed at how quickly a civ can fall when they are expanding. I'm tempted to try this with a small number of cities (like your 5CC game) in an attempt to be more aggressive in the early game. I'm still too much of a builder at heart at the moment :)

How did you guys do these lovely animated minimaps?
Is there a tool for this?

Thanks Ginger Ale.
I will download CivAssist today. It looks great, don't know how I have missed it until now ;)
