OK, I've decided to do a revival of sorts for the NES that really got me hooked on here, ASNES: The Best Thing Since Peanut Butter and Jelly. More or less, I just ripped off Amon's rules and added a few things, because a part of my soul died when he decided to close that NES, and I feel like it's necessary for me to revive this awesome style of NESing.

SRNES1: A Rising of Kings

Gigantic bouts of civil war caused the destruction of all former society during the Middle Ages. You are the future leaders of the remnants. You can command armies, create kingdoms, or just fend for yourself. It’s entirely up to you. This NES is based on the idea of a ruler can't do everything...He has to have his officers too.

You must read over the rules before you join, because if you do not… You may get confused later)

This is very much an Althistory NES, with a bit of fantasy thrown in for good measure.

RULES!

Each officer has stats. They all range onto a scale from 1-20, 20 being the best.

War- Your fighting ability. If you have a low war, you may die if you go and lead a fight personally. But if you have a high war, you can man the battle yourself. Soldiers admire bravery and skill, as well as leadership. This also aids in officer duels.

Leadership- How well you can lead your troops, and how well you rally them. You can train your troops better if you have a better leadership skill too. All in all...If you have a good leadership skill, your troops are better off than under the command of another with low leadership.

Intelligence- How smart you are, this can mean a lot of things, such as how well you can set traps for your enemy, how well you can devise plans, and the ability to use something small to it's best.

Politics- How knowledgeable you are in the affairs of state. Someone well versed in politics is better off in internal affairs, such as raising the economy, than a warrior.

Charm-How well you are liked. This can help in everything. How many troops you can draft, if need be, how well people work with you in internal affairs, soldiers may not listen to a hero with low charm .Can come in handy if you're trying to get NPC officers, too.

Each officer will have these 5 stats. Remember your officer's stats aren't everything. Player's ability also counts a lot .A plan devised by yourself is often better than a plan that would normally be thought up by an officer of your stature. Your stats just make you look good or bad when pulling your plans off.

Economy

Represented by a number. This number represents how much gold is made per turn. It costs twice your current economy level to raise your economy by 1(Example: An attempt to raise a nation’s eco level from 2 to 3 will cost 4 eco). I roll a 20-sided die, and if the number rolled is lower than the officer that's raising the economy's politics, it is raised. If higher, the economy does not get raised and the gold has gone to waste. (Exception to this rule: A 1 on the roll is always a success, a 20 is always a failure. This is to somewhat equalize the playing field). Although if the officer raising the economy gives a good plan to raise the economy, it may raise anyway, or raise twice!

Failing an eco raise will not make you automatically lose all the gold you used attempting to increase it. Instead, the outcome of your failure will depend on your roll. For instance, if your Politics stat was 15 and you tried to raise your economy from 2 to 3 and I rolled a 16 (barely a failure), I would say that your investment broke even and that you made back all the money you spent on it, and return the 4 eco you used for the raise back to your bank. However, if your Politics stat was 12 and I roll a 16 (a significant failure), then I would say you lost half of your investment and return only 2 to your bank. Only on truly disasterous rolls will ALL the eco you spent be lost. If you succeed, however, the money you used to raise the eco level will be gone.

Army

You can either hire or draft men for the army. Difference being, hiring costs more, drafting pisses people off. If you hire men, you hire them at a rate of 100 men per gold. If you draft men, you draft at a rate of 400 per gold. Hired men will start out better trained. Drafted men will start out disorderly, and untrained. You can spend 1 gold per charm in the raising of an armed force.

When troops are raised, they must be put under the command of an officer.

Training

This will be a number, from 1-infinity. Higher is better, of course. When you hire troops or draft troops, the number will get lower, more so for draft. Hired troops base training is 40,and drafted troops base training is 10.it will go down on an average.

Say you have 1000 troops with 50 training. You then draft 200 troops (10 training). This would bring the training of the whole unit from 50 to 43,because that would be the average training level of them all.

You can train your troops better with more leadership, and war. (The formula is leadership+war divided by 2 times 400 divided by the number of troops he has)Thus someone with 500 troops and the leadership of 19,and war of 16,would raise their training by 14 in 1 turn. Thus if they had a training of 40,it would be 54 now.

Don't worry about that though. Just remember you can train your men, and you can train another person's men as well.

Equipment

You can make 100 of each equipment listed at their prices, but you can make 10 more for every politics stat you have. Thus if you raise arms, it raises at 100 per gold, but with 13 politics it raises 230 per gold with that officer. You can give equipment to whomever you want once you have acquired them.

Prices for equipment are as follows.
1 for spears
1 for short bows
2 for swords
4 for horses

More will be here as time goes on.

Navy

Right now there are galleys. But you can make more types of ships as time goes on. 5 galleys are made per gold. If the officer making galleys has over 5 politics, then for every 5 politics he has, another galley is produced (An officer with 13 politics can make 7 galleys per gold)

Troop happiness

Represented by a number. Many factors make this go up and down.

NPC officers

The world starts with none...But you can search for them. When you do, please tell me their name, and I will generate some stats on the next update. Any officer can search for another officer. The stats of the officer being searched for will be better depending upon the searcher's charm. You can search for a specific kind of officer.

NPC officers have a loyalty level, in which they can be persuaded by other charming officers, or money, or some other gift, to join a different side, or betray their master in some way. Be creative.

Also, officers may appear at random by my say so. Maybe a fine Minister may be looking for work, or a grand warrior shows his colors on the field.

Special Items

These can be found throughout the land, or made. Various effects, depending upon what is made/found.

My additions to the rules:

Item Creation

If searching for items isn’t helping you out, you can always cut out the middleman and try and create your own. Item creation is based on an Intelligence check, and while any number below your intelligence score on a dice roll will get you a new item, it’s effectiveness will be determined by a second roll.

Magic

Amon kind of touched on this briefly before his NES closed, but magic will be available in this game to those who can find it. However, it cannot be created (at least in the beginning, until your ‘scientists’ understand it better), and will be extremely rare. Magic will have various effects from creating blazing fireballs to strike down your enemies to raising the speed of your mounted troops to creating protective barriers against arrows. This ‘technology’ will be highly valuable, and will not proliferate, because it will be written down on ancient scrolls.

Officer Aging/Death

Yes, your officers will age, and they can die. Aging can affect your stats as well. For instance, an aging warrior may find that his physique is starting to weaken and his looks are gradually fading (loss to War and Charm), but that he is wiser with his years of experience (raise in Intelligence and Politics). I’m not certain how long each turn will be in years yet, but the older they become, they run a greater risk of dying of age. Of course, disease or other accidents will always pop up at random intervals.

Mates/Children

So how to prevent your line from dying out? It’s obvious, you have kids. Looking for a mate to bear your progeny is naturally Charm-based, but a potential father/mother could be impressed by unusual proficiency in other stats. Children will more or less be an average of their parents, so strong stats in the parents will likely produce strong attributes in the same areas. Children must reach a certain age (probably 16, though this is still undetermined) before they have the abilities to become an officer themselves.

Betrayal

Obviously, players have the ability to betray or forge new alliances with other players. However, this may have unforeseen effects on your own troops. Obviously, whether the NPC officers under your command will follow your decision is based on their Loyalty stat, troops themselves may decide they liked your old allegiance better, and they may even decide to attack you for changing sides. This will be based mostly on the Troop Happiness stat, but Charm/Leadership/Politics will also play a role.

Joining up

You will need to fill out the template, and tell me what kind of officer you wish to be. Your generated stats will be random, but your highest stat will automatically be put into your class’s ability. The template will consist of your startout castle, or camp. Your name, and what kind of officer you are looking to be. The types of officers are here:

Warrior (War): Good front line commander. Men follow his courage, and aspire to be a good fighter like him. Excellent deulist.

General (Leadership): Grand leader of forces. They inspire their men with leadership, and rally them to victory on the field.

Strategist (Intelligence): Great deviser of plans. They know how to push the buttons of enemies, and how to improve their plans as they go along. A great plotter.

Minister (Politics): Great with working domestic affairs. Works well with the creation of arms, or economic stuff.

Retainer (Charm): Great orator, and liked person. Good with persuasion, and good at searching for officers.

You may either start a kingdom (castle), or join an existing one as a subcommander. Whether you want to work alone or with a friend is up to you.

Age
Every character will be assigned an Age statistic. For starting characters, it will be a random number between 16 and 30. Each turn will last a year, so the Age statistic will increase by 1 for all characters every turn. The general lifespan (obviously accidents/disease will occur sometimes) will be around 50-60, so officers will generally last quite a while. However, virility will decrease with age, so everybody should try to produce progeny as quickly as possible.

Trade
Once you establish contact with other nations, through borders or otherwise, you may choose to begin trade with them. Trade routes may cover any overland or oversea path between two cities, but obviously shorter distance = faster travel = greater profits. Oversea routes will require each participating nation to give up at least one galley for a merchant marine, but again, more ships = more trade = greater profits. Trade routes cost an intial 5 gold to open. The profits, to make it more realistic, will not be static, but rather they will fluctuate. Most commonly a trade route will get both nations 1 eco apiece, but sometimes no profit will be made, or in some cases 2 or 3 eco could be made by both sides.

Action list

Obviously these are not the only actions you can take, but more like a rudimentary guideline to get you started.

Domestic
-Raise economy
-Search for officer
-Visit an officer (Raises Loyalty, based on your charm...Takes your action, but has a better effect than giving gold, as you build a relationship with your officer this way)
-Search for item (Better effects with better int and pol...Doesn't always work.)
-Draft
-Hire
-Buy arms
-Make ships
-Create items

Military
-Guard
-Fortify
-Attack
-Duel (The officers leading both armies fight to the death, the losing side retreats, must be mutually accepted)
-Those are just some...I don't need to put all the military orders that are available, because then it would lower creativeness

Plot
-Arson
-Gossip (Lower loyalty of an enemy officer?)
-Betray (Have an enemy officer betray his master for you?)
-Rebel (Have enemy officer try to go against his master, and strike up for himself?)
-These are just some I'm sure there's more you could think of
-Plot actions can only be done against NPCs because you can talk to PCs easilly, using AIM or whatever. Thus this is the reason there is a loyalty stat, because I can't determine what player's loyalty to their masters are, but I can for NPCs.

Stories

Like every NES, stories will greatly increase your chances for random bonuses, especially well written ones. However, I understand what it is like to have a crammed schedule, so those without the time to write stories will not be punished.
