I've started on my first mod yesterday, and it's a ton of work, even for the little simple thing that it is. I've run into a million questions, and eventually found the answer. This one I'm stuck on and impatient.

Q: all my civs are showing up in the initial civ selection screen as "the united states," but then in diplomacy as their correct names. what's wrong?

Welcome at modding, I hope you have no life ;)
The only idea I got is checking the following tab: scenario -> scenario properties -> players. There you look if you assigned a different civ to each player #. In your case, it might be that player 1->x are all "united states". Hope that's it.

Here's some pics of the problem...every civ shows up as the united states. also, where it says noun: united state, in the file I have it written out correctly, "united states."

edit: pics removed, problem solved in post #12.

Hmm...I think I found it. All the diplomacy text indexes are -1. I assume that's whats causing this so I'll try to put these back to their original civs.

GA: It's a very minor mod amongst minor mods...but still too much work.

basically a smaller world map.
modern civs.
a few new UU.
a few graphics, static leaderheads.
keeps the standard rules intact - I like them.
should be a fun civ to try different modern civs.

:bump: Please help. I can't continue this mod if it doesn't work. I included the scenario file. All of this work is still pretty early progress.

EDIT: removed. I figured it out! woohoo!

In Scenario Properties->Players, a couple civs had no leader name, once added, this worked fine. Of couse this befuddles me because they had leader names in the civ selection screen as defined by Edit Rules->Civilizations.

Oh well, it works :p

Alrighty, progress has been made and I am play-testing everything. Going smoothly until I got an error message. I replayed the turn and the message was slightly different.

Any help is again appreciated.

EDIT: pics from this thread removed.

Did you add anything without editing the proper Pediaicons.txt file? I assume you have a file structure in your ../Conquests/Scenarios/ folder for your mod, correct?

What was the last thing you added to the game?

I'll try reediting a new file...I've saved so many different versions of things maybe the correct one got left out somewhere?

I'm confused though. I only added two units to the pediaicon.text, and neither of them are available for quite awhile.

Here's two more pictures of the problem at hand. I think they are all of the same error even though the text is slightly different. Any help solving this annoyance and I'd be grateful.

Here is the newest variation of what I assume is the same error. Notice it says "ANIMNAME_H" which should never actually occur in the PediaIcons file. I started looking for units who's name begins in "H," horseman, etc., but the correct format would be "ANIMNAME_PRTO_Horseman" anyway.

Seems like good idea but...I completely redid the whole thing already. :D I made sure not to delete any units like I did last time.

In an effort to "streamline" things, I deleted a bunch of units. I'm pretty sure I patched up the upgrade paths and did everything to make it work but I was so frustrated not being able to fix it that I started again from scratch.

So far in the latest testgames, everything is going smooth - but you never know.

Here is the old PediaIcons.txt
