This is a map of the Philippines, 100x150, that was requested by manny and grahamiam. In land/sea placement it is extremely precise and accurate. In the actual terrain placement though, I have used a small degree of "artistic license", to make the map more balanced and varied. It is still highly accurate, though. :)

There are two versions available: a clean version and a resourced version. (In the resourced version, resources and goody huts were randomly generated to save time.)

Enjoy!!! :D - emp

P.S. Keep in mind that the "compressed"-looking screenshot is NOT actually how the map looks, as it is 100x150 (the world view always defaults to the norm, in this case, 100x100 - so the map looks compressed, but isn't Wink ). I have attached a cropped screenshot that gives a truer view of how the map actually is. ;) :)

El Justo is in the process of making a Philippines-American war scenario from this very map. You can view his work in progress here. :)

Thanks! :)

"Pirates" as in a scenario for Civ3? Or "Pirates" as in the name of that game made by Sid? ;)

And thank you, by the way. :)

As in a scenario for Civ 3:

----------
"So many allusions have been made to the pirate activities in Sulu that it seem necessary to devote a chapter to the organization of this not inconsiderable part of the Moro resistance to Spain. These small islands spawned the terrible freebooters who laid waste the coasts of the East Indian Archipelago.

In order to approach properly the subject of Piracy in Sulu it should be remembered that to the Moro, piracy was the profession of a gentleman. For centuries these Indonesian sailors pillaged the coasts in conducting a huge slave traffic which supplemented their legitimate trading voyages.

In the romantic literature of the sea, they are referred to as the "Malay pirates" and their exploits have been the basis for many stirring tales of fiction.

The pirates of Sulu are not, however, figures from a dim past. Their career extends down to the twentieth century. In 1868, the Governor-General of the Philippines issued the customary annual edict to the inhabitants of the coast towns, warning of the approach of the pirate season. As late as 1908, the International Instructions to Mariners carried warnings that the Straits of Basilan were infested with Sulu pirates. During this same year headlines in the newspapers carried advice of pirate outrages within twenty miles of the city of Zamboanga. Under the date of August 22, 1908, the Mindanao Herald of Zamboanga published a story of the pirating of a pearling lugger off Tonquil Island under the headline:

"Moro Pirates Attack Pearlers"

Also, this is a nice round-up of the Philippines. Round up, not detailed.

I believe if you manually alter the filename from .biq or .bix to .bic, then the map should work in vanilla Civ3. However, there will probably be some slight changes (Marsh and Volcanoes will disappear, for instance), and the files might be slightly unstable. But hopefully, they should work without too many problems. :)

well.. can I use it for the original civ3 without any patches or any mods or something like vanilla civ3 or the conquests?

Probably any version, but I don't know. Try it and see. :)

do I convert it using notepad or any other software?
I don't think that's necessary. Just change the filename like you would any old file - click the file and press F2.

well... I think I am gonna search thoroughly on user created philippine maps because the f2 thing doesn't work or if I change the file name it doesn't work like from Philippines resourced (Parkin Creations).biq I tried changing it to Philippines resourced (Parkin Creations).bic

Hmm, okay, I wasn't sure if it would work or not. Try searching the forums for a Conquests -> Regular Civ3 file converter. I'm sure someone must have made something which can do such a job. :)
