COTM 13 was an interesting game, withthe map supplied by Renata. She spent a lot of time blancing it - tweaking the civs, the starting locations, the resources and the terrain. Apparently she spent quite a lot of the time back-peddling on the difficulty, because initially the test players were getting smoked by aggressive neighbours.

The final result was a fantastic map - a low-food, high commerce start that gave the player a reasonable chance of expanding to a useful size, and a great basis to try to hone their trading skills - great stuff.

Despite the lack of resources, there were still some very good games submitted - with a very narrow range of dates separating the top few players. hendrikszoon claimed gold with a conquest win, with Dynamic a few points behind but a whole one turn faster with his domination win. Bradleyfeanor was a bit slower in his domination win to get third place, but he still managed to beat 11,000 points.

Congrats to everyone!!! Considering this was my second deity game and my first solo deity game, I'm ok at #80 :D

Hey! Congratulations everyone! In the QSC's I've been in the top 10!!! :) Let's not talk about the final results, though ;)

I have no idea, how all of you manage it to get all those techs until 1000bc... Guess, I still have a lot to learn...

My 2 domination awards are in GOTM13 and COTM13.

Congrats to the medal winners for milking better than I did.

And congrats to 7Losses for making it all the way to 2050AD!

WOO HOO - 1st victory above emporer and a shield to boot - also 1st diplo victory.

Possibly aided and abetted by the tretchery of Theodora who ROP raped me just after signing an MPP as I was about to take the UN holding Aztec capital. Razed Paris containing 2 unfilled armies, heroic epic, battlefield med etc. Delayed my UN victory many turns as I did not realise a 2 to 1 vote and 1 abstain would not give me victory - then didnt know that another chance to vote would come much later.

This map provided me with a huge challenge - I learnt a lot and in the end was over the moon just to achieve victory. Hats off to those top players who scored unbelivably high with super quick victories.

Cheers DaveMcw. I still have a load to learn though. I got hammered at the start and thought I would definately lose the space race. I fluked a leader though and an early army saved me.

Just a question. I noticed everyone in the quicksave founded on the spot. Does this give an immediate money bonus for the capitol? I didn't think it did so I founded 1 square NW. Was this a bad move?

Another question. As I was milking I took note of my score round by round and noticed that at the start I was getting more per round than at tne end. This was dispite that fact that at the end I had more % devoted to the happines slider and also more citizens. Any thoughts?

Congrats to all who finished this game - especially to everyone who won and exceptionally to all the award and medal winners.

I never believed that I would have a chance without ToA and Pyramids. But I am sure without trying to get the cow award at least Dynamic (and - but in this case I am not completely sure - Bradleyfeanor) would have beaten me.

This is because the score if an average of all turns so far.. so each new turn becomes a smaller and smaller part of the whole.
For score increase per turn to stay constant you have to get more and more citizens (or more land) every turn.

Edit: the score increase each turn:

IPTS = internal per turn score = (territory+2*happy_citizens+content+scecialists+number_of_known_futuretechs) * difficulty_modifier

where difficulty_modifier is 1 for cieftain, 2 for warlord, 3 for regen and so on up to 8 for sid

the score the next turn will increase by this over the score in teh current turn:

(IPTS - score) / (current_turn_number+1)

as turn_number gets closer and closer to 540, and IPTS is pretty much constant.. and score gets higher and higher.. the increase in score gets lower and lower

I'm happy to get my first award in my second cotm  although there was some luck with choosing the victory condition involved ;)

Congrats to all the medal and award winners, especially to those amazing fast conquest and domination victories - i initially wanted to go for a military victory and i just don't see how i could get it before 1000AD.

DaveMcW, your playing style is really impressive (in previous cotm and in this one you managed to outresearch the AI peacefully to get superior units first and then conquer the world very quickly - never thought it is possible on deity). I think i'll something like that in the next cotm, although it gives lower jason score - you were only 3rd and 4th despite very, very good dates.

:bounce: Yay! I won something! :bounce:

Although in a race with only one runner I feel a bit silly :crazyeye: . Anyway from the looks of things COTM13 will be a bit more competitive for the 20k award.

Congratulations to all of the real winners, some of those finish dates are very impressive :)

It was really fine map to play. On GPR I nearly made it to top 100. Next goal is top 50, but maybe Civ IV will be out before that.

Will there be GOTM? I believe this is the most interesting part of the game to see where you are in comparison with real masters.

Congrats to all players! In this game even defeat is not too bad way.
And especially congrats to hendrikszoon: 590AD Conquest is much harder then 580 Domination. And as you said you could reach Domination in 490AD! Of course, at the start I was thinking about milking and went this way but I think I couldn't reach such result anyway.

Congrats to everyone that submitted :) A special mention to Hendrikszoon... Great game. You know, i actually thought at some point that my 1240 conquest would be enough for the award  as everybody was going for Domination wich was the obvious victory condition for the medals . Still my finish date is the second fastest  That says something about your fantastic game (70 turns earlier...) How the heck did you do that?? :)

P.S. WetsawDustDemon (what a name!), you are a real winner!! The awards are as important as the medals. A 1798 A.D. 20k victory in a deity Conquests game is always difficult. The fact that no one pursued it means that it was either a very unlikely win or that you predicted wisely that no one would go for that. Getting the awards is a bit about that too...

Congrats to all the players and, of course, the winners.

My batteries had run dry, so I didn't compete.

Special congrats to Wet and Leopalas for getting the deity 20K's. Though both uncontested, 18th century is a good date at deity-level I think.

will i ever get a medal *sigh* :(
congrats to the winners :)
