Here is the poll which is so badly needed. The choices are:

5CC -- limit ourselves to exactly 5 cities

5BC -- limit ourselves to 5 built cities and allow some captured cities to be kept

Epic -- no pre-determined limits on number of cities.

It is being polled in 4 options.

What maximum limit do you want on the number of cities?

A. 5 (strict 5CC)

B. 5 + number of rival civs (5BC with captured cities)

C. 5 + 2*(number of rival civs) (5BC with more captured cities)

D. No pre-determined limit (Epic)

The winner will be determined using cumulative voting. Scan from one end of the list, totaling as you go. Stop on the option which pushes the count over 50%. If you're savvy in math you'll see that it doesn't matter which end to start from, but to eliminate the possibility of arguments we'll start counting at the top of the list.

Pick a discussion, any discussion. Poll duration will be 3 days. In the meantime I suggest we work on the parts of the ruleset and game settings which are not dependent on the kind of game.

I am voting and sticking to an epic game this time. Eventhough I have tried playing a 5CC, I find it that its not appropreate for a demogame. Rather, I find a 5CC game appropreate for a solo game.

Hell yeah! Third time we've polled this! At this rate we'll break the record of 6 times, within the week!

Agreed.

First off, DaveShack, the poll should've been 5*CC variant (# of cities to be determined later) and Epic, just those two. I am happy with any of the 5*CC variants, but not an Epic game. Would you take Epic game as the winner when the poll went:

5 epic
4 5CC
4 5CC + rival civs
4 5CC + 2*rival civs

???

5CC... But I would prefer anything over epic

Agreed.

Finally, a decisive poll.

I wouldn't call 2-2-2-2 decisive.

Really it is 6 - 2...

Oh sure, the way of determining the winner does completely suck, but it's actually still tied.

This is actually a very strange, and very biased method of polling. Whatever way this turns out, the two options that people most want are not going to win. It's almost guaranteed to be one of the middle options.

If 5CC wins this poll, can we have another poll strict 5CC vs. 5CC +extra cities?
If 5CC +extra wins that poll, then another poll.

If people really wanted an epic game, then more than 50% of people would have to vote for it.... Seems fair to me, same with 5CC... 51% of people would need to vote for it

Chances are one of the middle options will win because people want a compromise

i voted for no limit on citys. But if someone runs for domestic (or who ever makes the calls on city placement) and says they will only bulid a small high production low corrupting nation, i will vote for them.

Actually DaveShack, if it was tied then it would matter which side we started from... Like right now, its 3-2-2-3, if we start from the top, the bottom wins, if we start from the bottom, the top wins
Otherwise your idea is good

ok a few things before i vote:
a) what's the difference between options 2 and 3. i don't really see one.
b) how do we know which one wins? the way DS explained it was a bit confusing to me.
c) whatever option wins (i really don't give a ****) will everyone just accept it and stop the fighting. also, i really would like it if no one left over this stupid argument.
d) sorry about my most recent poll. it added more unneded controversy and didn't solve anything. i apologize.

I voted strict 5CC, but I have to wonder how this vote is going to be counted. I'll agree (emphasis mine) with Strider here. This poll is biased towards the 5 option. As of my vote, it's 4-2-2-3-1. The 5 option is winning 8/3/1. What happens when we're done in three days? Will the votes be construed in any sort of way to determine a winner? If the 5 option wins, will we poll it as three choices, then 2? (Either way, we'll have broken the record). I think it's safe to say that the 5 option is going to win, but with what method?

Option two is basically a 5BCC with few AI cities allowed captured. Option three is a 5BCC with a lot of AI cities captured.

but then don't we need another poll to figure out how many cities "alot" or "a little" is?
