I used to play two Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs). Having not been much of a computer game player, they blow my mind completely (for a while and then I got bored). I just couldn't believe that you could interact with so many elements within such massive virtual worlds and with so many other people running around it too! It was a real eye-opener for someone who had never touched the likes of Tomb Raider and so on.

Anyway, these games have been around for many years now already. The levels of artistry are getting quite staggering and the complexity of play equally so. It would be good to see some of this.

The first game I played was crap. It was a free game called Runescape. It was a good introduction. But after a year I went for the nuts and played Anarchy Online. Here are some screenies which I've shrunk hopefully enough to make convenient but not too much as to reduce quality. The graphics of that game were outstanding and I often just stopped to take a screenie cos it looked so good. Unfortunately I've deleted most of the good ones.

You will see two characters, Vitalo, was 'my main'. He was a martial artist by profession so does not carry any weapons. Here he is in action against some nasties:

Fighting in Elysium

This is what is known as a dyna camp. I've killed 'the boss' already and now I'm dealing with his henchmen - they are 'mantises'.

This is me pulling off one of the deadly martial arts 'special attacks'. It's within a 'mission location'.

This is me and some Dutch dude I used to team up with on a huge floating island swarming with big rock like monsters called "Hecklers".

The landscape was so vast that I would often stumble upon creatures I simply did not know existed. Here are some weird ones I found whilst trekking across the planet.

Splendid idea for a thread!

Nice screenies there, I'll post some of mine when I get home from work. :)

I look forward to them. I'd be happy to explain bits folk don't recognise or are curious about.

This is the map for just the main planet (called Rubi-Ka) in Anarchy Online. In about 6-8 months of playing the game I only saw about 20% of it  And then there are all the other planets!

The whole scenario is a futuristic control and resistance story. With one planet being exploited by Omni-Tek, a greedy corporation. This divides the game into clans. So you have

1 - Omni-Tek a vicious, greedy corporation on one side. Their areas and travel technologies are all the blues lines and place names
2 - The Clan who are basically freedom fighters on the other. Their's are orange.
3 - The Neutrals are the wussies that everyone beat up  . They are green.

If an Omni-Tek player tries going into 'Clanner land' they get jumped by high level NPC guards, and also by human controlled players. People would often team up to conduct raids on each others land and you could actually gain control of it and drive the oppositon back. Mad!

You could also do missions, for cash/item/experience/access rewards, deep into enemy territory. Pretty cool stuff.

That's a pretty big map. :)

Here's my WoW-character on his mount

And here he is out walking on water his orc pal. :p

Here he's out fishing! :D

And finally, this is the almighty warrior near the Tower of Arathor. ;)

@Ram

Do you have to buy Madness or was it free?

And do you have to pay a monthly fee?

Sounds cool, but i'm not willing to pay monthly for it.

ANARCHY ONLINE link for you Lozzy :). I played paying quite a hefty monthly subscription (US$12 I think). But I know that they have been doing some free offers lately, like just after I decided to stop playing  . IMO it was well worth the money, it's an outstanding game. Very refreshing to not have that fantasy theme (sorry Smurf). And the levels of interraction between other players is amazing. You can see in the chat lines, me tuning into all sorts of different trading, raiding, OT chat, clan chat, tech discussion stuff etc. It's mind boggling. But at the end of the day you have to have ridiculous amounts of free time and I just didn't have that and don't want to spend my free time on that anymore. But check it for a while and you will be dazzled.

@ Smurf:
That is some funky armour man! Do you always wear that for fishing?

And that axe is kick-ass, no doubt. Some questions:

What is your choice range of mounts and what did you have to achieve before you could get one?

What is your profession and class and all that stuff?

Cheers :D.

And yes, I do have LOTS of free time (I now seem to be on CFC non-stop in my free time  ).

I need to start going out more again :(.

Yeah, keeps the mosquitoes away with ease. :)

As an orc I can choose from wolves, raptors (generally for trolls) and kodo (gen. for tauren). You have to achieve level 40 before you can get your mount and it costs quite alot to get the training to ride it and to buy the actual mount.

Class: Warrior
Profession: Miner, weaponsmith (which is a specialisation, as a blacksmith you get to choose whether to specialise in weapon- or armoursmithing).

Also highly skilled in cooking, first aid and, as already established, fishing. :smug:

Aight, here's a screenie I took 2 minutes ago, note that I have replaced the big fat axe.

Batman:

At the old throne in the ruins of Lordaeron (those who have played Warcraft 3 should recognize that name).

Here are some of the other character I started. His name was Shandoor and he was an Adventurer by profession. (EDIT - They also have different species to choose from, he is human). These guys can charm monsters and use them as servants. They can also transform themselves into other creatures (sparrow, wolf, bear, jaguar and stuff like that). They generally use swords and daggers. I didn't get this character up that high, but he was much better looking than Vitalo lol. I'm really kicking myself for having deleted all the best of my screenies, these are just from the second best folder :(. I also never l;earnt the 'clear screen button' for completely clear screen shots. Lots of buttons to learn in that game!

AO has 'nano programmes' in the space of spells. They emit an aura round your character when operating. Here is Shandoor letting off a couple for the camera:

This is '1 Handed Edged Expertise' (or something like that) it bumps up my ability to use 1 handed swords. You can see that I am a newbie in this shot with crap armour

I think this one is 'Terrain Knowledge' which gives me increased run speed (handy if you can't afford a space car - yup they have cars instead of mounts).

I did get Shandoor up to the level where he could turn himself into a bird and fly everywhere. Not exactly a jaguar or wolf but it had its benefits :)

And this is me deep in a dungeon area, The Temple of the Three Winds. All kinds of rare drops and boss monsters in there. Those are the swords in action and I'm expecting a rare drop from the good Reverend Olay.

Maybe one day I will trace all those great screenies I purged from my system? ::(

@ Smurf: That Bat shot is amazing!!

These are some of the characters to be found in that same Temple of the Three Winds dungeon (they are not my screenies, I'm still kicking myself for deleting my good ones):

Starting with the biggest and the baddest Boss Man in there. I forget his name (Uklesh I think) but I died many times trying to kill him. Only managed it once with a very good, familiar team. Getting his sword from the drop almost made me piss my pants

This is a less significant Boss' lair, but there were many dens like this which contained some pretty nasty guys, all with plenty of henchmen to take out:

This is the entrance hall to the TOTW, guarded by a 'fanatic' with a large 'cold energy scythe'.

Some city scapes, to give an idea of the futuristic feel:

This is sitting on 'Jobe Platform', it doesn't even appear on the map above.

A Guard between the cities of West Athen and Old Athen, the second capitals of Clan territories (he's carrying a radiation gun :cringe: )

Another city which is on a completely different planet to the map I posted previously. It is being invaded by aliens in the shot. Sadly I had enough on my plate to deal with than to shell out on getting hammered by some aliens

This is the kind of outpost you come across in the middle of woodland. If you haven't been checking your maps you could end up running into a load of Omni-Tek guards  (then you get sent back to the insurance reclaim). I think this is in 'Varmint Woods'.

I'm getting really nostalgic now. *sniff sniff*

Woa Anarchy Online looks amazing! Don't think I'll ever start playing that, most likely too addictive. :p

Dude! Why do you think I stopped!!! It was too good. Hope you're going to share somemore screeenies with us?

Anyway, I found a couple of shots of the cars people have instead of mounts. You can get vehicles for air, land and sea. These ones are air vehicles called 'Yalmahas' (see what they did there :groucho:  ). I never got enough money together to get one of these but you buy them in all different kinds of models and with different paintjobs. You can even buy the components separately and build one yourself :crazyeye:

Are there no other MMORPG players around here then? Or at least some like me who may have some screenies around from when they used to play?

Some more questions for you Smurf, cos I get a weird vicarious pleasure this way, even if I can't bring myself to endure the games any more:

- So what new bits of equipment are you hoping to get for your character?
- How are you going to go about getting these?
- Are your axes made by other players or yourself?
- What all can you make with your smithing skills and what are you hoping to be able to make soon?

- Got any shots of some of the badass NPC you are looking to take out soon or some recent ones you 'owned'?

- Got any shots of your buddies?

- What about some of the places you hang out a lot?

I've just found some shots of the AO nightclubs :D. I never went to a big club night, there never seemed to be one on while I was playing, but I did go to a poetry night!

Not so many per post please.

'll see if i can find some really choice crazy RO screenies

Gnnn. Must not start then, though I am tempted... Must.. resist...

Of course I'll put up some more. :) Gonna get some pics with axe swinging action.

Yo. Deathbringer and High Warlords Cleaver axe wise. As for armour, only one I've set my mind for yet is Helm of Wrath

-Hope for drops, most likely I'm gonna have to splash out cash for them though..
-Drops both of them. Earlier I used this one which I had made myself.
-As for now the best item I can make is The Shatterer, but I lack all the components to construct it... What I aim to construct in time is Annihilator. :D

Will post all of the above this evening dude. :)

Ain't that sweet. :) My guild had a gathering some weeks ago when they all boozed up and wandered through the orc capital city Orgrimmar in the nude. :p

:rotfl:

That's hilarious! More stories like these from your adventurers!

Oh and thanks for the other info. It's good to get a feel of the anticipation and options. I'm getting a real kick out of your adventures without the monthly subs and I don't waste time on it  .

This is a shot I took of me on Halloween (see the chat lines).

I am wearing a red Martial Artist suit which boosts a number of defense levels and also agility skills. You get them in turqoise, black, yellow and a very good one in pink from an impossible boss which needs a team to take out. My fists are glowing orange because I have the 'Fists of Fire' nano programme (spell) running.
scrn00110me.png

The green fists here are 'Corrosive Fists'. This sees me within a mission. These are uniquely, generated extra content, which follows a certain pattern but provides some consistent and exciting levelling. You can do these in teams to do missions with bosses. Your other options are going off hunting for 'wildlife' across the massive landscape.

Here is me taking on one of those rock like 'Hecklers'. These are the real experience cookies, loads of exp for dropping these guys. You can see I am doing him 'chemical damage' with my 'Corrosive Fists' but also 'energy damage' with a nano programme/spell I ran on him, which does 'damage over time'.

Downlaoding Anarchy now.

And Wickedsmurf, how much is the monthly fee on WoW?

Cheers :goodjob:
