The brave men known as, "warriors" have volunteered to be the first men in history to leave the boundaries of the city. They slowly opened the envelope that has a large blood mark, "CLASSIFIED" written on it. Inside they find a piece of paper. It says from the Office of the Minister of Defense, whoever is reading this hopefully has the proper security clearance. It then continues, to outline their orders including, explore the lands beyond the realm of the village, enter any settlement, be friendly or hostile then deal with it accordingly. It also tells them which direction to go when they first leave the haven of their town.

This may seem pretty early, but I want to get a disscussion going ASAP. The first unit we build is obviously going to be a warrior. We must decide where to move him. This is our starting position:

Based on the minimap we are on the south west corner of the western continent. We have a river near us that flows north hopefully leading to more fertile land. My suggestion for the warrior's direction he is to follow the river north. the next should be east, and the 3rd should go west, to discover any land that we might use on the coast. that should suffice for now, things can change in the discoveries our warriors make and i don't want to give to much of a plan just yet.

I would like people to post their opinion on my plan and if they would agree to let it happen. If i get a majority in favor or not of my strategey I will post it in the TCIT, or change it. If their is not clear majority I will start a poll.

To the south looks like tundra (you can see a whitish tile), and to the NW looks like plains. I say settle to the NE, and irragate that wheat. Now, for the warrior...

We shouldn't just "follow the river". We need to do a 180 degree scan of our territory to see if there's any coast...

We should explore in the easterly direction to see if there are any coastal tiles in that region.

Go east. it gives us the best chance to find any coast, rivers, or more fertile land.

I meant that the warrior goes north, scouting out land, merely using the river as means of a landmark to follow. From the minimap we can ascertain that we are near the ocean, thus we are near the coast. the 3rd warrior who moves east, can easily go to the south of Mt.Olympus, there isn't a lot of land to the east.

It almost seems like you guys are looking at a different screenshot than I.

@Chieftess: I don't see that 'white tile' you mention. I only see hills and forests.

@vikingruler: Yes, we may in fact be near an ocean (I agree with you), but that's no reason to thing there's no land to the east ---- we are in the far SW of the map! It could go either way!

@greekguy: East is good. But not for warrior. Settle the settler 1NE. That will explore 5 tiles initally, then an additional 7 or 8.

Send this warrior onto the hill 1W. Between him and the settler we will uncover more than 15 tiles. Send this warrior north on the river in turns 2-4.

Let's wait until
a) we've built the city
b) the worker has build a road

By that time who knows, we might be able to see something important

As things stand though, I suspect we'll find barren land to the south and an ocean to the north. I'd be inclined to head North-East

i think NW would be a better choice for the warrior to explore
south would most likely be tundra and moving NE would most likely just be more inland and getting the coast is most important right?

I see it...right by the hill

I looked at it with the graphics I use, and now I don't see it anymore... (looks like grasslands).

I am restricted to the screenshots, so if it seems like I don't see what you do, then that's probably the reason. Think of me as Teiresias (sp?)... muttering madly, blind as a bat.
