Domestic Ministry - Term 2

First order of business is the next town’s location. In keeping with my campaign promise, I intend to found the next town on the coast (don’t worry river-junkies – the following town may be on the river). There are at least two quality locations for it. I will consider arguments for other spots, but I believe the marked loacations are the best.

Advantages of Blue Circle:

- We get 1 happy citizen even before connecting to Athens
- Extra commerce (and this team loves commerce!)

Advantages of Red Dot:

- Will probably be more productive. It is already at least as good based on what we see, and more goodies may be in the fog.
- It is north of Athens which is probably the direction we need to expand.

I prefer Red Dot myself.

I am concerned that we will pass up the chance of reaping serious commercial strength from developing the river area early. As the Greeks we need to play to our commercial / scientific strengths. I'm very much in favour of our domestic minister having a medium-long term view of getting that river, especialy tobacco, roaded up and populated for extra commerce/science.

Getting that ivory lux hooked up would also be a priority concern but that seems less important right now.

I'm also always in favour of building marketplaces before libraries. The commerce from markets pays for library build period IMO, providing greater chance of rush buying, assuming we're in such a govt. Doing this also provides for some happiness. :)

There are probably other areas of your dept but I am still working out what each role does.

Now that I see your second post: I still think the river is preferable because:

a) It will take time for a settler to make that journey there.

b) Going for the river first will mean we near enough found two cities at the same time, leaping forward and surprising the other team also.

c) We have a settler pump in Athens and don't need the benefit of the fish (red dot) just yet. But it will be ours, oh yes it will.

d) Our population will rise far more the earlier we get a river city with no aqueduct needed. Tobacco area would be my vote. And big population in a high commerce town means we get our serious military units earlier, or just loads of cash.

Out of your two options: I would go for blue dot to develop the ivories early and get those benefits kicking in earlier. The red dot has food and bonus grassland, which is always inferior to the option of a lux IMO.

We should be able to produce more settlers during this term, se need to plan for that also. I believe at first we nee to expand our our capital t first then continue to expan from those cities outward. Whenever we can, we should try and settle near a river or a fresh water source for the advantage that it does not require an aquaduct for growth and is also a source of irrigation.

As long as it is coastal and will be ordered to produce a ship first ... then I don't care where exactly ...
"In the navy..." "We want you! We want you! We want you for a new recruit..."
I think you might be good as a member of this group. ;)

BTW, according to the article I got this picture from, They are starting a recruiting drive for President Bush.

Chams platform was for the next city to be a coastal city ... this is why I voted for him ... by all means have the 4th city up the river ... by Meleet we are not alone in His world ... and we may find ourselves up the river without a paddle :p

im with Rambuchan on this and i was before a city on the river is key, we get the tobacco, faster growth, and commerce bonus we need to play to our strengths,
also what if one of the other teams is closer than we think? and they see the tobbaco and settle there? what then i say grab it before it is to late

Yep ... after the coast ship building city ... THEN let's go git the 'baccy ...

Oh and our Defense Minister should really get a better nautical uniform happening ... I mean I like feathers and leather as much as the next man

BB_Hawk.jpg

 ... ummm ... anyway let's us fleetfully get ourselves a fleet ...

And then get villages to people ... :p

This team play has definitely taken a turn for the worse. I'm never stepping up for any roles if it means dressing like a sailor boy or some lapdancing caveman!

Hail Domestic Ministry!

Chaminix brought this to my attention,

Although workers are not directly part of my portfolio, I would suggest that a couple bonus grasslands around Athens be mined as quickly as possible. The plan was to have Athens run as a 6-turn settler + warrior factory from size 3 to 5. In order to do this, we need 2 of the bonus grasslands mined.

The main question is - is this more important than getting a road out to our new city TBA?

It would seem to me that getting our settler factory going should be a top priority - but getting a lux connection to TBA is something we need to consider!

Just want to make sure this has a thorough discussion before the next turn.
I'll do whatever the consensus is!

In regards to next city ... (on the coast) ... Why not have it between to 2 unclaimed ivory resources ... Navy Town ...

The city grows and Biff Bam Bingo ... Elephants in the Garden ... and with the worker factory (2nd city) they will soon be joined so ... Heaps of Pianos for Everyone

Ram  Brian Blessed a Lapdancin Caveman ??? ... sacrilege :nono: ... its actually a proposed design for an airforce if my Rik we ever get to fly ;)

FE has a good point, even though i want the 3rd city to be built on the river (and clearly it isn't but that is ok) building the city in between the ivory would be smart but it would take time to connect both ivory to that city (since it would be a 2 tile road going both ways) the upside of that is the road connectiong to the ivory east of our soon to be 3rd city would keep moving onto our main city so it wouldn't be that big a loss

I think the settler factory comes first - TBA will be producing workers and should not grow above size 2 until the surrounding land is improved so it won't really need the luxuries immediately. The workers built in TBA can road their way back to Athens while our original worker improves Athens.

In my opinion, Fe3333au's potential city site really doesn't look like it has much production. It will have one bonus grassland after expansion, but other than that, there is not much there. It also will have food problems unless we irrigate all the way down from the Ilissus.

Chamnix- I like both red dot and blue dot, but I lean towards red dot seeing as how a bunch of us really really want to go sailing. Also, being northwards is a help, as you pointed out. But what about 1sw of RedDot? That will give us the whale. Blubber is tasty and the oils can be very useful. I know it encroaches Athens, but will we really be held back more than we gain from the whale?

In Sum, settle red dot first, after that, I like river before blue dot...

I support charmix and move for red dot...
The reasons...
1. We will be building settelers like crazy so it wont be long till the river is all ours anyway
2. We need a city with decent production to help build some military (expecially considering the rate of expansion we will soon have)
3. I like boats

For the future i suggest...
trying to get 1 or 2 (or 3) more settler factories so we can settler spam the world!

ahhhh...but I think we'd be better served setteling a city to the NW of the ivory (is it's the land I'm thinking of) as it has a river and grassland in the vicinity
