The future of the NES Forum?

Should the NES Forum be Moved?

I abstain because moving seem to me a double edged sword (more players making better games against players who dont play properly). It is mainly whether we could cope, if we move to somewhere too public we could get too many new players at once causing difficulties for older players.

Could be.

However, i don't really expect that if we move that there would be a flood of new players.

Even during the Height's of Civ III, we did not gain that many people. I don't expect that to change if we move to Coloseum or to Civ IV Forum.

And personally i'm in favour of moving to the Coloseum.

Again, this is the third or fourth time this has been proposed. Even when we have moved, which we have tried twice, the majority stay here. Why? Why not. We get a good amount of traffic, we aren't hassled by the mods, everything is...balanced.

I dont think, unless we're someday forced to, that our presence here will ever end. As well it shouldn't.

I voted stay here.

As do I. We're fine here, and I doubt this will change significantly later. New players will come, by the same methods they come now.

Hmmmm, I think we should move to CivIV if only to spread the hobby.

edit: yikes, 50% + ??

I guess it's a set matter.

I would not characterize this community as fragile imho it's quite solid but there really aren't that many members, right`?

The one offshoot branch that I was made aware of through a specific thread died out.

This is a healthy community but all moments pass and in a decade NES'ing may be over.
Or as some dude once said: Expansion is an important worry. Lol, it's a way of gaming but it's enjoyable so I don't see why it should wither away in a dozen years when all the archetypes and personalities that made up the spirit of the forums are gone.

I for one, a fifth generation NES'er might carry on a torch here and there but the people who STARTED this forum... that pool of resources does not regenerate easily. Large numbers might tap into the talents and imaginations of much larger groups of people.

Mmmmm... all I'm trying to say is:

Wouldn't it be neat to find a dozen large NES'ing forums a decade from now when you've half forgotten about these games? It'd be kind of like planting a tree.

I vote we help start a new forum somewhere else.
nationstates.net might be a good place to start

Nope!

I voted to move to the Civ IV forum, but in reality I think we should have links to the NES forum in the Colosseum (specifically World History), Civ III and Civ IV forums.

Exactly!

Anyone here seen the Paradox AAR forums? They have in the subforum section under every game a link which leads to their general stories forum, so it's not separated and withering, but not scattered around.

Good one Cuivienen!!! I agree totally!

I'd like to make my point of view more clear on why should we move to the Coloseum.

One of many reasons why i favour that option is because NESsing should be for everyone, not just the lucky ones who manage to stumble upon the treasure that is the NES Game. And we don't get that many newbies (you guys are exgrasirating that) anyway, why would that change? The new people that just join CFC, first look into the various Civ Forum sections, only very few look into the Coloseum first.

And really you people are distorting the fact that, even if the NES forum would be more visible in the Coloseum, how would that make people more intrested in it? Since the NES game has been around long and it has been advertised in our Sig's and in our posts, for atleast as long as that. It would bring new players yes, but not a flood like you people are afraid of.

Just my thought on the matter.

the good thing about our location now is that we are a subforum of the stories forum. That way only people who are looking to write, to invent and create, find our forum.

If we move to the colliseum, we will get others who will just play to play, and will in the end transform, in IMO, ruin NESing.

This forum is the cradle of NESing. Every baby must leave it's cradle... but NESing is only about what, 3-4 years? Too young still... And small.. And fregile... espaicaly in this age of 1 month updates.

But it is a possibility. We get a lot of "hack and slash", "what the hell its just a game" type of people, some of them that were at CFC for a few days and are looking for things to ruin :S

We already have a lot of those, sadly.

Nope!
