Indeed. The handful of gold we could earn with these trades can easily be earned via 0% (or another low value) science with the great library.

I would think that we can clean out everyone's coffers for Philosophy. I know that Rome has over 100 gold. Does someone have the treasury totals for each nation?

So do we want to trade anything?

I getting that people don't want to trade because we are going to build the GL..I agree..so I don't think a poll on this as of now...

Next...

How about the next tech??? Any ideas..how about CoL???
Then how about after that???

You might ask whether and to whom to sell philosophy. Selling horseback riding (after the GL) to Persia would be another possibility. I'd go for CoL and then republic. Waiting to get CoL free would be another possibility (seems I commented on this in some other thread).

Interesting point, isn't it? Perhaps we should sell Horseback Riding now, so we can make the persian army more powerful. Our goal is to keep the AS civilizations fighting each other like crazy for as much time as possible. So their science and culture go down, and they stop looking at us for a while.

I think we should run a War Profiteer economy, keeping the 3rd World nations around us fueled by our exports in order to run a constant war, as we keep some elite formations to defend our 5 cities. We should really hone some elite formations, possibly surround a barb village for training purposes and grow these strong.

I'm against selling Horseback Riding to the Persians. Like Civlord said this could increase the strength the Persian military. Divide them and conquer. In this case divide Persian from essantial resources and techs then conquer. Or we could recon Persia and if they have no horses then I see no harm in selling them Horseback Riding. But only if there are none around.

To add yet another option, I've seen some posts that support an extremely low research rate.

Looks like we have a few days, since the next session is on Friday. I'll try to post some options soon.

Another serious point to consider is: what do we research next? We should probably go 0% science for the next 2 turns until the Great Library is built. By then, we will have better options for research.

What do you think?

I agree, freeze research at 0 % till we know what we get for free. As turnplayer I support this choice. Then we soulg set up a priority list of what we want first.
Try a poll setting up all the possible tech options, and let people have multiple choices, and we rank these in line with the DP election.

We should sell techs to anyone who can buy them, for cash, GPT, and resources. On the surface there is little point in taking tech for tech since we will eventually get that tech for free, but in a weird kind of way it is a good idea actually to even give others the pre-reqs they need to research the next thing we'll get for free.

The only things we should be careful with in the ancient age is in giving away advantages that we want to hold, if any. If we want to build another wonder, hold back its tech, otherwise bleed them for everything we can.

We shouldn't need to research anything until the first opponent reaches the Middle Ages at least, and maybe not even then.

Ditto.

Because we're small and weak and likely to remain so for a bit, it's likely some of our neighbors will try to exhort techs from us. I'd consider selling them all Literature to raise gold, and gifting Philosophy to them. The benefit of gifting Philosophy is we make friends; also, we influence the other civs to start researching the Republic.

They'll probably extort gold too. And the AI is not quick about researching republic, so I would go full speed that way. Burn all cash that cannot be used right away!

I tend to agree with zyxy on this one.

Once we go two turns of 0% science, we should revert back to 100%. It makes no sense for us to squander our impending lead in the tech race. We will be building Libraries, so we should use them to their full potential.

Which still leaves us with the question: what should we research after the two-turn break? Once we receive all the free techs via TGL, our options will be Mathematics, Polytheism, Code of Laws. If the AI has discovered Mathematics as well, the the field opens up for Currency and Construction. I think that Map Making is a product of Math too, but I don't have the tech tree in front of me.

So, which way to go? I would hate to have Friday's game session end after two turns.

So...how should I make a poll for the trades???

Any suggestions?? I am planning to put a poll up tommarrow, but kind of stuck how to put a poll on this..

Should is be like:

Should we trade Yes/No

I don't know...help :D please
