Which Government Should We Aim For?

Sponsored by the President of Fanatikos

Options
1. Republic
2. Monarchy
3. Feudalism
4. Stay in Despotism
5. Abstain

Note: Since many posts in several thread topics have pretty much implied our ultimate move to Republic, I figured there was no need to have a full-blown discussion on the matter. For this reason, there is no link to a discussion thread.

Note: This poll will be open for 96 hours and is public.

Everyone loves the Old Republic ;).

I know we are going to have bonuses in Republic, but what about the army? We have quite aggressive neighbors, and if we want to survive without going bankrupt we will have to choose between Feudalism or Monarchy. Also because of hapiness: in Republic, we will probably have our cities rioting. Feudalism, like Republic, has war weariness, but I heard it has a great unit support. So we can build a large army to make a decisive strike with huge troops before the war turns into an attrition and we face too much unhapiness. Also in Feudalism we have military police, and keeping the order will be vital.

Yes, but Civlord the unit support lowers as the cities grow. Our cities are getting much larger now. We can't go to the Feudal System.

Governor Civlord,

By the time we reach Republic, we will almost be at a point where we can build Cathedrals. Should I be lucky enough to retain office for next term, the Sistine Chapel will be a priority.

I appreciate your concerns for the prevailing government type but since we are playing as 5 city states, you have to admit that becoming a Republic only makes sense. ;)

If you have any other concerns, please feel free to address them.

Republic by far. Our SCI and COM traits and our (hopefully) peaceful game will compliment a republic nicely.

republic. the money and tech bonuses are way too good to pass up. plus the unit support won't be too bad. i mean aside from 2-3 hoplites in each city and a main army of around i guess 20 units unit cost won't be too bad. hopefully DZ will stay president, therefore we can build sistine's which will eliminate WW.

I think we'll be looking at more like 50-70 units, not the 20 or so that most people think will be enough. Also we'll be at war constantly, always in the opponent's territory, and repeatedly with the same opponent. I think the higher unit support, MP ability, and no WW for Monarchy is the way to go.

Daveshack may actually be right, which is why I lean to more point defense, and possibly monarchy. However, this also means we need wonders to fuel this war economy.

Gentlemen - under current law, city capture dictates that we conquer one city from each rival nation (not the equivalent amount thereof), raze the strongest remaining cities, endure a slight cold war until hostilites die down, and make peace. If we are smart, we will commandeer our war with minimal casualties, thereby keeping war weariness in check.

Republic is the way to go by far. You'll see.

Unless we decide to destroy them all (but one).

The one per rival nation versus one from each rival nation is an untested piece of case law. :mischief:
