The French culture has reached the borders of the mighty Fanatikos. This is a very real threat. Recently, a French solider armed with sword and shield approached our borders, while he didn't attack us who is to say they won't in the near future? With the French culture this close to us they can easily reach us in a few turns from cities such as Chatres with massive force. The Romans and Germans are also in a position to attack us with a sizable army. While our hoplites are powerful defenders, they can not rival the strength of 3 civilizations and our current military is far to meak to combat a strength like that of the French, Romans and Germans combined. As Minister of Defense, I will not stand by and let us be crushed by the inferior civilizations of France, Rome, and Germany. I propose a RDF. As many citizens know, I made a very rash decsion to put up a poll on creating the RDF, while a majority of voters said yes, create the RDF, 5 people said no, 2 abstained, and 2 said wait. Therefore the RDF won't be created. However, I hope this thread will serve as a discussion thread for the RDF and convince people to vote yes on the eventual poll. If the poll goes through, our army will be refered to as the RDF and it will serve the RDF's purposes outlined in Ranger99's thread, they can be modified though. May the banner of Fanatikos fly high and may the blood of our potential enemies run free!!!
I will now explain the map of our RDF. The black dots are our battalions of horsemen riding on the finest horses from the Augean Stables. They have been posted at what I believe strategic locations. The lines jutting from each dot represent the path the horseman will follow in each turnchat. This will allow the horseman to due a through search for the enemy each TC. I apologize for an extra mark, SW of the forest horse, that was a mistake. Now the blue dots are our stacks of swordsmen. In my mind, each one will have 2 swords supported with one catapult, as shown by the yellow dot. Now that would give us 12 swords, plus 6 catapults a total of 18 units making up our main RDF body. That number can be changed and most likely will, so feel free to comment on my plan. I would like to add along with our 5 horsemen and 2 hoplites for each of our cities we would have 33 units total for our army. I don't believe that is a lofty number because, for instance Priapos is far from harm from the enemy and therefore wouldn't be attacked in a first strike. Bearing that in mind, I suggest to Priapos' governor, Provolution, have only one hoplite in the city decreasing our total number to 32. A few minor alteration like that and our unit support cost won't drive us into the ground. Once again please comment however you, the people of the marvelous Fanatikos see fit and give suggestions on any kind.
Sincerely, Minister of Defense, vikingruler
