Styx city thread for term 3.
DG7_BC150_Styx_cityview.jpg

Governor: DaveShack
Deputy: Please Apply

City Goal: Avoid being thought of as merely a worker factory.

Proposed Actions, 150 BC

Mine cow plains, road the other forest.

MM to use mined plains and other forest to give more shields and waste less food. Want 10 shields after corruption, and a tile combination which results in +4fpt to be able to build worker, unit, worker, unit if desired.

Build priorities:
Marketplace
Aqueduct
Can now build regular units in 3 turns (swords, horses). Add barracks if we want veteran units.

Styx can also benefit from a courthouse as soon as we can afford to build it, then we can get 15spt and build swords / horses in 2 turns.

Pity. With a Granary, your city would produce a worker every two turns with no loss of growth. Of course, being the backbone of Fanatikos is always considered beneath most governors.

Instead, you will choose to vie for the nations workforces (produced by others) when they are much needed elsewhere. Your city needs no more improvement at this time; it's a waste.

What I objected to during Term 2 was the implication that there was no need to even discuss the role of the cities. I would rather see an actual discussion of how many workers we really need and how they will be used, not just orders from on high. I've only seen one citizen saying anything about city roles, and several governors in past terms saluting and carrying on without comment.

Also what are these fine citizens to do once their work is done? The cities cannot accept them back without causing rioting, are they supposed to just lean on their shovels somewhere? ;)

If we could get to 15spt and +5fpt, we can do a sword/horse and a worker every 3 turns, at less wastage then we have now.

Governor DaveShack, I understand your concerns about being just a worker factory. The potential of Styx is, as you've seen, to be much, much more.

Styx has, however, the most fertile lands in all of Fanatikos. The farms produce more grain, fruit and meat than nearly any other two cities combined. It would be foolish not to take some advantage of that. Perhaps we can come to an arrangement to the benefit of everyone - both Styx and Fanatikos.

Have Styx switch to a Granary, and immediately request a cash rush, that I will make a priority. Alternate your builds with a worker and a city improvement. In the next game session, request a cash rush of the improvement currently being produced, and it will also be a priority. The worker produced first by Styx will be tasked to Styx for the current game session, and for the next as well.

My plan is to merge 3 worker with Olympus, and drastically increase the production of that city. I will then allocate 1 worker each to Styx, Augean Stables and Priapos. This allocation will remain for at least the next two game sessions. The remaining worker will float around for a bit, in hopes that the barbarian threat in the South East will be eliminated or move towards another civilization.

Styx will be able to use it's fertile lands to drive the growth of all Fanatikos. In return, transient laborers will be enticed through cash pay to speed production in Styx. The goal you've stated, of being able to alternate improvement/unit and a worker is an admirable one. I think this can be achieved quickly through the plan above, while still helping all of Fanatikos to grow quickly.

Please, let me know what you think about this plan.

Thanks!

Dave/Ravensfire,

Two things:

1. If we are going to pursue a one worker/one improvement trade-off, there is no need for a Granary. Styx is already wasting 6 food per turn right now! A Granary would only come in handy if a steady flow of workers were commissioned.

2. Olympus can grow up to Size 10, maybe more --- right now! Keep in mind that each new tile worked brings more commerce; and then at our current 20% lux rate, more commerce will bring more happiness.

Gentlemen, the simple fact is that we can start growing our river cities today! And since each new commerce tile worked has the potential of adding happiness at 20% luxuries, that growth could be exponential. The unfortunate fact for Styx is that this plan puts our River Belt first in priority because its cities have the ability to grow now.

It's your city, DaveShack, and I know you have your constituents to answer to. But please consider your role in the Fanatikos Rapid Growth Initiative. We cannot do it without you.

Respectfully,

Governor DaveShack,

I am provisionally allocating 1 worker to you for the upcoming turnchat. Although the crews have recently completed a march, they are immediately available to you for use.

Thanks,

Greetings Governor,

Just lookin' through the save and commenting on some MM for the next few turns.

Turn 0: Move laborer from forest to BG to gain +1 food, +2 commerce.

If you stay this way, you are nearly at 10 spt (will be at size 6), and have +5 fpt for growth every 2 turns.

You might want to consider chopping the forest(s) S and/or SW of Styx to see if there are any BGs. This city has plenty of food, but if we can keep the spt constant while gaining more food, I'm all for it. If not, you could always replant the forests back for more spt.

Governor DaveShack,
The FA Consulate kindly requests that the city of Styx build a galley next turnchat. A galley will be needed to discover and explore the new world. Our current galley is exploring our own continental coastline and our other galley was lost last TC. It would imperative for a new galley to be built in Styx, since the coast near Styx is the planned embarkment point for the New World Discovery Galley. A galley built in your fair city would make the most sense logistically. Thank you for your time,

FA Consul greekguy

Governor,

Reviewing our current situation, my aides have informed me that further growth in Styx will require more fresh water. This additional supply can only be provided through a system of Aqueducts. While I don't plan on merging workers back into Styx soon, especially without the land improvements you have scheduled, this is holding back the growth of Styx. I have no problems with shifting our luxury rate a notch or two higher to maintain peace in our cities until the needed infrastructure is built.

Our treasury is at a historical high, assisting in the completion of an aqueduct soon could be to Fanatikos' benefit. Regardless, if you do have any projects that could use some speeding up, do not hesitate!

I'd hate to quote myself, but i posted this over 28 hours ago, and i've still yet to receive a response. Please respond soon, so i know if you are onboard the idea or not.

Proposed instructions:

Build Queue: Marketplace (4), Galley (3), Worker(1), Aqueduct

Workers: Worker on forest is released to the national pool for reassignment. Worker currently mining plains should finish mine, build road, then released to national pool. New worker on turn 8 is released to national pool.

As always, citizen comments are welcome. :)

The city of Olympus is planning to build hoplites to export. Ill be building one and request that this one to be sent as a present to Styx. Its the least I can do after that :smoke: move I made :(.

Governor,

As a reminder, we have a fairly good-sized treasury, and expect to make over 50 gold per turn for a bit.

If there are projects in your city that make sense to be rushed with extra labor, please post the request in the budget thread.

Thanks!

Governor DaveShack,

There is a strong preference to build the Sistine Chapel in the city of Styx. Does this project meet with your approval?

If so, what can my office do to assist you? I can have multiple work crews available in about 10 - 15 turns that I can order to Styx to assist you, or permanently relocate.

Thanks!

Governor,

As a reminder, since a Moderator has not updated the title, there is a game session scheduled for this Friday (October 21st) at 1900 GMT, or 2 pm Central time.

Governor DaveShack,

Styx is the next city on the Wonder list. I've got multiple work crews heading your way soon to both improve the condition and size of your city.

2 of them are currently building a Road for Augean Stables, and will be on their way immediately afterwards. Another is currently :weed: chopping down a useless forest on my direction. That activity will be stopped immediately, and they will be redirected towards Styx. Finally, a fourth work crew, currently assisting the other two in Augean Stables, will be heading towards Styx late, as it has another road project after it completes the current one.

All of these crews will be at your disposal.

Thanks!
