How would you react to a pandemi?

What would you do if you heard people started dying in heaps in China, India or Mexico or your own country? Have you already made plans if something like this would happen? Would you run for the woods or stay home and hope for the best? Have you bought any bird-flu medicin or stocked up on conserves or anything?

How long would you survive if no vaccin or medicin would do any good?

Are there any other catastrophies that could follow such an event? If North Korea lost 90% of their population and their neighbouring countries, for example South Korea, were saved because of a medicated population - would nukes go off?

To be honest, I think you are overestimating the effects even if bird flu does start to infect humans and become a pandemic.

But I'd stay at home, with my complete lack of medicine. I'd expect to survive happily enough, but wouldn't be surprised if it killed of my grandparents.

I don't care. The most affected countries will probably be the South-East Asia and the Middle East.

Europe, Japan, the US all have a working healthcare system. Europe especially, including my country. The pandemy would kill mostly elderly and ill people.

Yea, but you're counting on a nice and cosy pandemi, I'm talking worst-case scenario... It could happen, not very likely but it could... that people start dying like flies, 90% dead in some country a bit away, but with a few days incubation, there's a large chance the decease already has reached your country.

And if the health-care collapses because of all dead and the virus has mutated to a variant that there are no medicin against? Plus how would North-Korea react if they lost practically all population, while their neighbours were fine, would they launch nuclear in spite as a deathtwitch?

Edit: Europe aren't as prepared as one would hope btw.

Then we will all die and the civilisation will collapse. But this won't happen.

+edit:

After the outbreak is recorded, the EU, Japan and the US will practically cut themselves from the outside world. No flights, no border crossing, nothing. Infected people who are already there will be put under the quarantine.

By the time I found out about it, there wouldn't be much I could do about it...

I'd rely on my immune system and hope for the best. If medicine couldn't do enough to stop the disease, what point would there be in panicking about it? I'd just die a painful death or watch everyone I know die instead.

There would always be survivors, even if such thing would happen. The question is what the best way to survive would be. There are a lot of wilderness here in Sweden, but also quite cold in the winter with pretty little food.
The ones who would make it best would be people already living in and by the nature in a warm climate. Perhaps a new civilisation would rise from Aborigines(sp) or similar.

I think the best would be buy huge stockpiles of conserved food ( so you can stay at home for a few month ) and avoid any human contact - in case there is really a very deadly uncureable pandemie - but I stongly doubt that bird flu will be such deadly ( like the black death in medivean or so )

OK, there are several bunkers left there from the communist era. I'd probably find one and stay there with enough food, medicine, clothing and weaponry. Or you can buy a caravan and do the same thing in a luxury way ;)

I think this would be impossible with an incubation-time of only a few days... people travel a lot nowadays, but sure a few smaller cities and villages would probably have a good chance of isolating themselves.

Ahh... that would be nice, if one could have one for oneself and a wifey :) , although I don't think there are that many bunkers here in Sweden....

If you live out on the countryside this would seem like a good idea, with some sort of defense against intruders that is...

Well, it could break out in some large cities, but I don't think it has to turn out of control.

I know about a nice little barracks hidden deep in the woods near my city. Not exactly a nice building, but it can serve as a shelter. There are some concrete underground bunkers nearby:

You can hide there from the birds ;)

My god people, get a grip. You guys are already talking about civilization falling:lol: Theres no virus! There wont be one either.

I know, that's a "what if" scenario. The bunkers are my emergency plan for various situations, including the nuclear war, pandemic, asteroid winter, whatever. I'll soon start moving supplies there ;)

I would go on with my life as usual, fully confident in that since my father is a doctor Ill get the vaccine long before the virus reaches Scandinavia :p .

Not bad, but it still wont cover most of the scenarios at exitmundi:eek:

I know, but unfortunately I can't get some plasma rifles against the aliens or nasty robots. This is the best I can do to survive ;) :D

The best way to survive is to already have genetic immunity, which I guarentee, in a population of 6 billion+, a significant number of people have.
