Has any one else been bothered that building the Manhattan Project is a huge waste of resources? Its more efficient to be working on it and let someone else finish 1st and then swich production to a nuke, thereby being the 1st to actually benefit from the wonder. Has anyone ever thought about making a mod that gives the civ completing the Manhattan Project one or two nukes?

There has been discussion about that before and the idea that completion of the project should give the player a nuke has been brought up. I agree, that's what the project is trying to archive, after all.

Switching doesn't work in Civ4. You won't get your nukes faster as production doesn't transfer between projects.

True but you do get a nice pot of Gold which can be used to buy a nuke.

I agree... completing the Manhattan Project should yield a few nukes... but not ICBM rockets. Since the game makes no provision for bombers with nuclear weapons, nor, any more, for tactical nukes, perhaps the one who completes it should simply be given a production bonus (temporary?) for the nuclear weapons that are allowed. Or, if spies were once again allowed to steal technology, and could be produced by anyone, other countries would have to steal or otherwise acquire the technology, just as the Russians did....

how about a national wonder with the cost decreasing after each civ builds it. Ie it cost 1500 hammers for the first civ to build it, 1000 for the second civ, 750 for the third civ...

Thought of exactly the same thing.

National wonder is a good idea, and we HAVE to bring back the tactical nukes, because when they started out nukes where no where near as powerful as they are today, todays nukes could make Hiroshimia look like a prom after party by comparasion. I'd like to see the remaking of the nuclear subs and maybe add nuclear bombs instead of missles, and what about a hydrogen bomb, aren't they supposed to be worse?

What if MP is a national wonder that grants a technology. So like the US told many of the allies how to build nukes, so could any nation that builds it in the game. Also, other civs could steal the tech (spies can still steal techs right, I can't say that I really use them anymore, they really dwarfed them in this game), But small tactical nukes would be nice. Ones that could be launched from subs or cities for the equivalent distance of a bomber.

In all of my games, and I have the game since release, no one ever built the manhattan project. The AI is too bus building spaceship parts...

I would suggest creating a Nuclear Bomber unit, which is created with the Manhatten.

1st Strike should clearly be available! Kinda the whole point of it.

I think it should make the builder the only civ able to construct nukes for a certain time frame, like 10 turns or so, after which nukes are available for everybody.
