well its a bit early yet, and i think the people (not i as i cant actually play the game) should get a feel for their chosen civ, but for now i say greece, birth place of democracy fitting really

I agree that it's quite early, but IMO we should go for "random", because every one has to live with what the game brings up, then...
Another reason is: I won't have any insights before nov, 4th. (European here), therefore I won't know pro's and con's by 31st of Oct. (which is the end of this poll). I assume that very likely this is the case for many participants...?

I said the Inca, just because they're new to Civ IV and because I like their actual civ's history. But I agree it's too premature to be voting, it may turn out that the Inca are terrible.

H'lo,

I'd have to agree with Stilgar08 on this...random might be the best choice. I'd wager there'd be less hurt feelings and stepped-on toes that way. But who knows...that might be the very reason why we decide on a specific civ in the end. To step on the toes of other civs. ^_^;

It is never too soon to begin considering the civilization we shall conduct business for. I also imagine that this will be determined from an election of sorts.

I think that Random is the way to go, at least for now.

Let's have our destiny choose us the first time out. I'd like us to be as ill-prepared as possible, so that our quest mirrors that of an actual fledgling nation.

Yeah, it's early, and I'm sure there'll be an official one later. Besides, we should probably choose our leader/civ combination at the same time, somehow as the leaders are so radically different. Still, it can't hurt to test the water.

I'm also in Europe and I won't be getting my copy till Gamestop deigns to chuck it 'cross the pond. Which could be weeks. This poll will show how a lot of people feel before they've played. Americans and beta people excepted, of course.

Besides, I'll now go down in history as the first pollster in this forum. w00t!

they were in c3c though
i voted germany

For reference, in past Demogames, we have been the following Civs: Persia, Germany, Rome, Japan, France, England, and Greece. I would suggest picking one we haven't been yet, but random is a great choice.

I would have chosen America but as this is a Game Of Democracy I believe we should play random. Also I don't think we should take into account the Civs that have been played as before as this is a whole new game.

I do think that we should not play the same Civ twice in the Civ4 Demo game, so if down the road we choose random and get the same Civ I believe we should restart until we get a Civ that we haven't played as before in Civ4. Yes, I know that this is really far off but I take the long view, and believe that this should be included in the constitution so that all Civs can have an equal opportunity to be played, not just those with abundant partisans.

I'll abstain from voting until I have the game. Hopefully tomorrow. After I have had a chance to read up on the pros and cons of each civ, I'll cast my vote then.

I'm a little annoyed at the lack of any Scandinavian or Native American civs to choose from. I almost always played as either Viking or Iroquois in Civ3, and I loved playing the Souix in Civ2. No matter what their pros and cons, I don't really like any of the civs included in Civ4, with the exception of America, Germany, and perhaps Mongolia and Russia.

Hmm, funny I don't remember them. Where they in the expantion? Because I didn't get the expansion and that may be why I didn't know that.

I voted random, lets see how the game plays first. We can start choosing particular civs when we want to tryout particular traits etc.:)

We should go for 'Random', too many people are just voting for their own physical country/place of birth/ethnicity.
