Bleh, after screwing around with my computer for a couple of hours and searching the net for the error message i get when i try to run Civ4, i have finally managed to understand what is causing all the problems. Its the bloody SafeDisc4 copy protection on the game that seems to dislike my dvd-burner.
The error message i get contains the file ~df394b.tmp which is apparantly one of the temporary files that safedisc uses. After searching the net i have found the same error appearing in lots and lots of games, and it seems that there is no really easy way to fix it except installing a crack. Too bad that Civ4 has not been cracked yet! Guess i will have to wait for a crack before i can play this game.... Bloody copy-protection.....
So, if anyone else gets this error, try searching google for ~df394b.tmp. There are a couple of fixes that seems to have worked for some people (other games though so i cant be sure if they will help on Civ, havent worked for me yet at least). Hope this helps someone at least.
