Figured I'd make my own thread as my replies in other threads get no response from anyone on fixes.

1. The symptoms: Second load screen (with the loading bar) only comes up and loads about 1/3 of the time. It either doesn't do anything (no pop ups nothing) or it pops up the first 'loading' and then doesn't pop up the loading bar one, or it actually loads the game. When it does the locking up one when I hit ctrl-alt delete and look at processes it shows Civ4 at about 18,000ish k and a file called ~e5.0001 with about 1,300ish k. Should the game load and you try too access one of the scenarios that require a restart (or load a save from one) it repeats the process. It either doesn't load, or does the half a$$ locking up load. ***Out of the box it wouldn't load at all. I would have too hit it 20+ times filling up the processes before it would load. Upon updating my sound card driver (the only thing that sorta worked) I was able too load a scenario and even a save. I thought it was fixed. Upon turning off the computer and coming back later that day it started doing what it is doing now.*** My wife's computer runs the game fine though.

2. What I've Tried : I've installed multiple times. On both my non-writable drive and my top writable drive. I've updated my vid card and sound card drivers too the most recent. Run ad-aware and made sure too not have any spyware on my computer. Defrag and scandisc. I've done everything short of a clean install, and would like too avoid that if at all possible.

3. I do have the problem with the game closing at random, but using saves I can live with that. Getting the game too start (and load scenarios/saves) is all I'm focussed on. I posted in a thread with someone who has a similiar problem, though his won't even load at all.

I have a P4 3.2gig, 1gig of Ram, Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS, GeForce 5950 Ultra (256mb memory), and running XP Pro with all the updates from window's update.

If anyone is able too solve this problem for me I'll 'sacrafice' a 6pack of your choice too the gaming god. Their tech-support is worthless. Between hanging up on my calls and NO responses too emails, this forum is my only hope. Plz help.

Figured I'd post the log thing that it does when (after getting the game too start) I try too load a scenario (or in this case a save from a scenario when I thought it was fixed) and it goes to restart and just hangs.

I see plenty of views but no advice. If you need some more info just ask. Just really want to get this too work. Also have ran a registry repair program and run it too fix anything. Didn't fix anything so doubtful a fresh install of windows would. Unless I'm missing something that it would do....

I've tried about every suggestion that I've seen in other threads. I've turned off the hardware acceleration on the dxdiag for the sound card and everything mentioned in this thread. Plz help.

Just wanted to add that I've even tried the beta driver for my sound card and no change. I see people viewing the thread, but no advice. At this point I'll take any. My computer should be able to run this game fine. The fact that it loads pretty regular now EXCEPT for when it needs to restart to load a scenario makes me wonder what it could be causing it too not pull up the second load screen with the bar.

I appreciate the lack of flames which seems too fill the other posts, but would really love some help

I actually have the exact same problem as you do. At first however, my luck was getting the game to launch one out of every 2 tries... which I could live with. Now I'm down to 1 out of 10 times which is why I'm checking the forums. I had a similiar problem when I bought Battlefield 2 and found that there was a problem with the safedisk cd protection conflicting with burning/emulation software on my computer. Curious if you have any of these programs on your computer (daemon tools, nero, clonecd...) I'd prefer not to remove completely legal software off of my computer just because safedisk has somehow blacklisted it, but if I don't get a fix soon thats what i'll try.

Sweet a person with my problem lol. Was worried I was alone on this. To answer ya question I do have nero. I didn't even think about the safedisk thing. I'll see if I can dig up the disc to reinstall it (came installed on the computer when I bought it) and if so I'll give it a try and see if it fixes it.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. I'll look into it and let ya know how it goes.:goodjob:

Just wanted too reply that it didn't fix it. I removed nero and the game loaded like in the above posts. I tried too load the scenario and it restarted, popped up the first loading and then just hangs not loading up the bar screen. Same as above posts. I still thank ya for ya suggestion as it's the ONLY one I've got. Most people are too busy being fanbois and reeming those with problems that they need to be more tech oriented or whatever they need to stroke their ego.

I'm having this issue as well. I am using a Pentium 3.2 GHz with 1 GB DDR533 RAM, PCIX GeForce 6600 GT, 72 GB 10,000 RPM SATA drive, running Win XP. Haven't resolved it yet, but I'll keep trying.

Well I deleted alcohol 120, daemon tools, and clonecd (left nero, but I have an old version that doesn't have emulation). At first I was still having a problem but then I used a registry cleaner (its called regsupreme i think... google for free reg cleaners). That removed all the irrelevent registry keys (I had over 2,000 so I suggest doing this even if you don't have this problem) and now everything seems to be running fine, I'm 3 for 3 so far but i'll keep you updated.

Jesus, I cann't believe this. do I have to delete all my legal softwares for CIV4?

Yeah I'm kinda heated that they've gone as far as making it so the game won't even start because I'd rather not fumble through all my CD's when I want to play a game. I guess the law gets fuzzy inbetween making copies of owned music and making copies of owned software. Anyway, the problem is with the safedisk protection on the cd, not the game. But regardless, I'm going to go return the game for another copy 3 or 4 times out of spite... atleast make them pay for shipping and repackaging.

I'm still hoping it's something they can patch. As taking off nero didn't fix mine lol. Though I'm glad it took care of it for ya. TBH it'd kinda shady to do this. Here's hoping too a fix, or me magically stumbling onto it. I figure by this time next week or the week after if no patch I'll give a format/re-install a try. Though I'll be here posting for more help all the while. I HATE formating, so time consuming.

Still looking for some advice. Have run out of things to try.

Any advice would be nice. I've resorted to playing it on wife's computer. Which is funny as her computer has a hard problem running most games but seems to work fine. Except the memory leaks.

Still looking for help for solving my problem.....Will keep bumping this till patch comes out and perhaps fixes or get some advice that does.

I've seen the threads complaining about those complaining. I'm not just complaining. I'm actually seeking advice. I've tried the advice that I have been giving and it's not worked. I've tried everything on the 'fix it list' and nothing has worked. Would love too get some helpful advice.

Till it's fixed or patch I'll just have to keep nocking this up in the hopes of someone caring enough to offer help.
