AI mistakenly gives technologies when suing for war

I don't really want this bug fixed, as it's a nice little "cheat" which can be done late in the game when I've fallen behind. But my ethics say I should report it, so here it goes.

When you click on the "What would be the price for peace" option, and get the popup of "You can only have one side giving tribute during a war" the AI thinks that it is getting the best deal, but the trade window does not change. Thus, I can get unlimited technologies even when I'm at a disadvantageous position when suing for peace.

1. Go to war with a stronger Civ
2. Wait until the Civ will talk to you again, then propose a trade deal
3. Peace Treaty (10 turns) and load up the other Civ's window with outrageous demands. Gold, Gold per turn, and every technology
4. Click "Will you accept this deal?" Civ refuses.
5. Click "What would make this deal acceptable" option
6. Popup appears saying that only one side can trade while suing for peace, but trade window does not clear
6. Click "Will you accept this deal?" Civ accepts.

Appropriate behavior: AI Civ clears trade box, puts what it needs from me, and then agrees that it is a good deal
Alternate appropriate behavior: Civ still says the deal in the box is unacceptable

I noticed this too; the effect isn't limited to just technology and gold. You can essentially take anything they have to offer (not in red).

I've taken both several technologies and a city when the AI originally wanted a few hundred gold. I haven't actually tried taking EVERY city (besides the capital), but I'm sure it's possible as long as there is something you have that the AI would be willing to trade for - such as at least as many similar quality cities.

This definitely should be fixed... it's so tempting when you're about to get rolled over. Plus, this could serve as most of an early victory mechanism giving (granted, dishonest) folk nice high civ scores.

Also, just an edit to your reproducing steps.. your second 6 (ie: 7) is something to the effect of "We accept your offer" (don't recall if that's it exactly or not); point is, the AI doesn't have the option to accept or refuse the offer at this stage because it was the AI that made it - you simply thank him for being so generous. :crazyeye:

Jeremy.

Edit: Should probably note, in case of differences in AI, this works on Noble and Prince.

Just stumbled across this one and experimented a bit. The AI will hand over their entire empire on a silver platter with a nice pretty garnish to go with it. Absolutely everything not in red can be taken via this method. If you can survive until they're willing to talk you can have everything they own with 10 turns to fortify it before they can even declare on you again. This has got to be the biggest bug i've ever seen. It's not so much a problem for single player games but it could be exploited by unscrupulous players in multi and so long as they didn't attempt to take an entire empire no one would be the wiser.

I've noticed (and used) this also, but I've also noticed that they won't, in fact, always give you everything you ask for. I've used the trick to try to ask for certain cities (never their capital, of course) and it came back with the "You and I both know that ain't gonna happen" reaction.

I can always get at least one free thing, just not always everything they have to offer.

Definitely a bug. I just made a deal the regular way and the computer told me to get lost. I use this trick and hes happy to give me Pi-Rammeses
