I just installed an extra gig of ram on my computer (512 to 1.5 gig) and whenever I start Civ4 it just reboots my computer once it gets past the initial loading screen on the windows desktop. The game seems to start but then it reboots my comp. It ran ok before, I only got the ram because it was very lagy and slow. The rest of my comp runs fine with the new ram addition... can anyone help me?

can anyone help or give me some tips?

anyone, anyone??

Try downloading and running memtest86. It's possible that your computer isn't running fine with the new ram addition -- it's just running fine until you start to utilize the bad stick.

I am getting a simliar problem. I go through the choices for a new game, watch an extremely choppy intro with the narration. Then BOOM, reboot.

I have checked all my drivers for the latest stuff. I run tons of other games with no problems. Something is screwed up big time.

Of course, you have removed the upgraded memory and tried it, yes?

I changed my settings so it plays in a window instead of full screen. I get a little farther now. I am able to see the UI but the map is whacked. All sorts of blackness and odd colors.

After a few minutes, it rebooted the machine. Any ideas?

The memory stick is a Kbyte. I called their support line and they told me that it might be a bad stick and that i should get an exchange on it. I got a new one, tried it and same thing. Plus my other games wouldnt run either. Im going to call them again this afternoon. I inserted my old sticks into my comp and the game ran fine (well, at least the same choppy way it did before). Im begginging to think this is a computer wide problem. I know my comp is full of useless stuff and clutter so Im thinking of doing a system restore in the next few days when I have time.

Well I got my issues fixed. I was able to download later drivers from ASUS for my motherboard and that seems to have fixed my rebooting problem. The download updated the VIA chipset drivers, the AGP drivers, and the PCI drivers. Now everything is going smoothly.

If you have an ASUS motherboard, checking their site for updated drivers would be a good idea.
