I have civ2 gold. How can I be the barbarians. I looked around the cheat menu and to no avail..... I bet I have to edit some of the files, huh? What will I need and how? I just want to be the barbarians... Can I be Atilla? I heard he's the actual barbarian leader. I would probably eventually take over the world as I'm smarter. As we start with easily defeated units, I'll go straight for an undefended or weakly defended city.. Can I make improvements and such? It's cool If I can't. It would be pretty cool just being them and stuff. Thanks!

I've often wished I could be the Barbarians. But I don't think there's any way to do that. :(

I use ToT, but I guess it's the same for MGE:

  • Make sure there are at least some barbarian units or cities present on the map.
  • Game menu → Game Options → Autosave each turn.
  • Cheat menu → Toggle Cheat Mode.
  • Cheat menu → Reveal Map → Barbarian.
  • Cheat menu → Select Human Player → No Human Player.
  • The other civs will take their turns. When they're done, load the autosaved game. You'll have control of the barbarians.

^ We should add this to Civ2 guide!

Thanks! And yes, this should be in the guide. Wobbegong posts quality, not quantity. That's what I like! And yes, it does work, I just tested it out. :)

I play Atila the hun!!! "barbarian wisemen discover alphabet" lmao.. I don't want to reveal the details of playing like this so you can find out on your own. Thanks again. Makes this game even more playable!!

Wow, my guys do suck lol. I lost my guys to a settler lmao. As soon as I get a city, I'm gonna take over the world!!

Okay. You don't need a unit on the map in order to play. You will control the barbarians as they spawn in the map as they would in any game. Just be patient, or you can use the cheat mode to create a unit.
