CIV Complete, and Conquests Question

I want to make sure Conquests is running when I start a game so I need to understand something I do not currently.

The Main Menu shows Conquests, but when I click on Conquests, it gives a list of pre-assigned maps to play on (Scenarios?). I currently have Disk 1 in CIV III Disk.

Do I need Disk 3 in (Conquests) in order to play a random map?

Does anyone know the answer to whether I need the Conquests Disk in the Drive in order to play the game?

Thanks

Last question first. Yes, you need the disc in the drive to play the game. Assuming your next question: We do not support NoCD hacks, so don't even ask.

As for your first question, if it says "Conquests" and there's a picture of a samuri in front of a castle, then you're playing Conquests. There is a different button, cleverly labeled "Civ-Content", that is for Non-Conquests (the included scenarios) scenarios and modpacks.

Um, actually Turner, I don't think "Complete" uses the pic of the samuri for Conquests. After my Conquests disk became corrupted, I bought Complete as a replacement, and all 3 versions of Civ just show what looks like the door to a bank vault. (It also uses Fireaxis in the directory instead of Infogrames.) Complete plays Conquests the same, but the openings just look different.

Well, I don't have Complete, so I'm not sure what the main menu screen is.

So how does one access the non-conquest scenarios for Complete?

Also, Faithful, I kinda sorta lied to you. There is a NoCD crack out there that appears to be official. As soon as I understand it a bit better, I will post where to find it.

Eman just told me this in the faq

@Marsden:
Step 1: Put the Civ3 Complete, Disc 1, in the CD-drive.

Step 2: Enter Windows Explorer, go to the following folder, as applicable:

A. For Vanilla... C:\Program Files\Atari\Civilization III Complete.... then dbl-click on Civilization3.exe

B. For PTW...... C:\Program Files\Atari\Civilization III Complete\civ3PTW ....then dbl-click on Civilization3X.exe

C. For C3C...... C:\Program Files\Atari\Civilization III Complete\Conquests .....then dbl-click on Civ3Conquests.exe......or just click Play when Disc 1 starts (as opposed to Exit).

For the future, set up a short-cut desktop/task-bar icon for each version you want to play.

And complete does show a bank vault, not the Samurai.

If you look in this news announcement, you will find a link to the NoCD patch we support. Any other NoCD crack provided by any cracking site is not supported and against the rules.
I'm not sure I understand how that works. It said the patch is for "International", so does that mean NOT for the U.S.? I never minded having to use the CD until I began switching back and forth from Civ3 and Civ4. Now I switch so often that I'm afraid I'll damage one or both CD's. It would be nice to leave the C4 disk in the drive and still be able to play 3.

Maybe someday they'll come out with a new version that includes ALL the Civ version, maybe 1 through 25, huh?

I haven't d/l'd the patch yet, so I can't comment. But I was thinking what G_A was thinking.

As for releasing Civs 1 - 25, it doesn't quite work that way, unfortunately.

Thank you guys for the help.

I have been offline as my system died a few days ago.

I am building a new that shoul dbe done in a few weeks once all parts arrive.

In my first post I was not even hinting at a Crack, but if there is one that is legal then I would like to have it once I get my system up and running again.
I just like games that do not require the CD to be in the drive to play, as I like to keep my disks in Mint condition.

Thanks again for all the help.

regarding "disk 3" that says "conquests" on it ...

don't worry about that. you need that for installation and then you put it back in the case and forget it. the only one you EVER need in your drive after you've installed is disk 1. and game under the "conquests" rules system plays by default when you choose a random map.

Sorry about that, I tend to get a bit, um, overboard, with NoCD cracks. I did link later to the 'official' one, so use that one.

I too hate having the CD in there. Unfortunately, it's not always legal to get around that....
