The conversation we were having at the mod's thread was no longer about the mod, so I figured it was best that we moved to a new thread. Anyways, in response to the number of thoughts and ideas that have been floating around the last day or so:
LR and Stormrage - with the exception of possibly making a 'yhetee' by recoloring the "son of kong" or some other ape-like unit, we do not have most of these units nor the means to acquire them, as far as I'm aware. Gnoblars seem within reach - but what are the limits of C&P? I could be wrong, but I don't think it's possible to cut and paste a Hunter, Tyrant, Bruiser, Scraplauncher, various Maneaters, Butchers or Gorgers. While it may be possible to cobble together a working Ogre civ, it's not going to be done by making lists of what you wish you had or reciting what we all have access to on the WH website.
Regarding Gnoblars and making slinger gnoblars and spearmen gnoblars the like - I'm not in favor of this. Gnoblars are a disorganzied mob that make a drunken militia look like crack troops. There aren't some gnoblars specializing in spears and others in daggers and others in slings - they're a single mass armed with them all;they throw stones when enemies aren't looking and jab with sharp objects when enemies fall down. My suggestion regarding gnoblars would to to create a single Gnoblar Fighter unit which has some sharp object for general attack and defense, and a throwing animation in which the gnoblar throws a stone or something to use as a defensive bombard. This way even in later ages gnoblars can be useful when stacked under Ogres since they'll pelt incoming enemies before they reach the Ogre.
That being said, I don't oppose a few variations. But making slingers, 'dagger' guys and spearmen for gnoblars just doesn't seem appropriate to me.
I agree the creating of a gnoblar hunter, like LR suggested, with either stealthy abilities like suggested, or a paradrop to simulate hiding until the enemy passes and then coming up behind them.
I don't know the limits of C&P, but I came across this image:
Some skilled editing of the Night Goblin Fanatic unit might make a fine Gnoblar Scrapper.
Also, an unofficial unit for gnoblar cavalry is a gnoblar riding, well, another gnoblar. If it's doable, it might fit in.
But really, the Ogres have a small list of possible units - half that of the Empire. And as we don't have many units actually available, their use of a few strong units will undoubtedly be reflected in any Ogre civ created. Making sure they have units to fill the standard 'roster' shouldn't be a major concern.
A question of my own: Has anyone seen a good "Ordo Dracos" type unit? An eastern european knight, preferrably with a dragon on his helm, or at least appearing somewhere on him. Best thing I've got so far looks a lot like the Blood Knight, and I'd like a little more of a European look if I can find it.
