great stuff, but Uskudar is the name of an area in Istanbul, not a city.

Hagia Sohpia in the background looks great! Although for Ataturk I was expecting something more like this:

just a qn though, why did you choose Selim as the 1st leader? I would have gone for Mehmed II or Suleyman, just a general wondering rly.

This background was done by a designer from Spain, it is really ameasing! I'm sure he is professional :goodjob:
I choose Selim I, cos this LH is part of "Project Advanced Mod", a mod under constuction and the team choose this leader.
 
About the background: It's amazing job, but that would look way better behind your Selim I LH. Ataturk stands for quite the opposite of what mosques represent. His revolutions wiped out the religion and all religious institutions from the new republic. It's like having Hitler pose in front of the Star of David.
 
Tunch that isn't true, he may have secularised society, but he did not destroy religious institutions. The Hagia Sohphia is a good background for Ataturk as he used it to symbolise his reforms, he had the mosque converted into a museum and the former byzantine mosaics restored.
 
When I think about Ataturk, I think about a Turk with an Iron Cross, Brown Uniform and more, like seen on this image:

Just an opinion, but I think the Jannisaries should either be swordsmen or longbowmen. Yeah... they were the first to use rifles but only at the very very end of their time and not very succesful. A gunpowder unit should be a siphai since they were the "Modern Army" of the Ottomans.
 
I'd prefer to see a Janissary unit as an archer, with long flowing white dress, although the riflemen in blue and red are more well known.
 
No problem change the type of the UU :D When I add the second leader, I can change it ;) The same for all other stuff (civilopedia entry, city list...)

Allright... here's what I'm thinking. First of all, the mustache doesn't make a twist and go down. Secondly, there is something wrong in the eyes. I can't be sure without trying different combinations but I think the height of the eyes nees to be smaller. To me, the cheek bones look like they are in the right position but the cheeks itself needs to be a little more round.

This is just an opinion but I think I liked him better in a suit.. kind of shows what he stands for.

For the cities... I believe you can use Uskudar as a city and even Kadikoy if you wanted. A city is defined as the number of people living in it and they both fit that category. All I can say is that Uskudar and Kadikoy are in the Istanbul Province but Istanbul, Kadikoy, Uskudar can all be considered city's.

Well of course i didn't mean he destroyed the buildings physically. :) But he banned all of the religious institutions, the Medrese's, all cults, Quranic schools, Tekke's, all sects and denominations, even the moderate philosophical ones like the Mevlevi sufis couldn't escape from being banned for good. But since the background is so perfectly designed, i suggested it to be used as a background for Sultan Selim I.
 
The LH looks nice, but change his eye color..not many Turks have blue eyes or did he have blue eyes?.:p
