why is there no civ1 game of the month? Civ2 still has a big GOTM fanbase as does civ3 and now civ4 GOTM has been released. why not civ1 as well?? Im sure there are plenty of people out there who would like to give it a shot. Im still trying to get a copy of the game but when i do track it down i wouldn't mind competing against others in a monthy competition. What does everone think??

We tried it once, a long time ago, and we tried a succession game as well. I'd love to try it again, if someone else would organize it...

I think the first attempt is here.

Since civ1 is really the only game I ever play.. I would be very happy if there was a GOTM for it. Unfortuately, I'm one player.. IC is another (I'm guessing).. Dack, Perplex and Goldberg are three more... and.. and.. and.. That's the civ1 crowd!

And half of them aren't *that* regular so I really don't know how it will hit off. Unless you lurkers want to speak up and show your numbers.

5 players make up the civ1 community?! still, maybe a GOTM would convince others to go back and play the original. Can anyone who is interested post, so that we can see how many we can get. maybe we could run it between ourselves on this forum!!

i dont really have the time sorry. i dont really play anymore anyway. too busy these days.

What form would this GOTM (game of the month) take?
Does someone submit a game? and everyone plays it, then we compare scores?

I understand. *mumbles something about real life*

So that's 4. If we're lucky.

I'm definetely committed to this forum and anthing that goes on with it (I can't tell you the amount of times I've read through every thread here). My track record shows that: 194 posts and only 5 or 4 out of the civ1 forum. And most of those were in the civ2 forum debating that civ1 is better. I've built up a wiki totally dedicated to civ1 where anybody can join and add their tips etc.. haha! Trust me, I'm never going to stop going to this forum and posting even when I'm the last one left. </blatant elitism>

I'm your regular civ1 fanatic. Which means I'm all for helping you man a civ1 GOTM. :goodjob:

I guess somebody would submit a game, everbody would play it and then we would compare scores. Yes. But there would have to be some house rules (such as what version etc)

stop living in the past! pick up a copy of CIV 3 for 10 bucks at Wal-mart(it is much better) why do you think they call it CIV 3?

Because it is some pretend version of civilization. There can't be any other reason.

 Nice one Dack :)

Why?

whats wrong with a little nostalgia? i personally have copies of all the civs. this thread isnt about which game is better and in any case: civ1 is part of the series and where the game started. people still play civ1 not because they cant afford the '10 bucks', its because a good game is still a good game even after it is updated.

anyway - so far we have 3 players interested in a civ1 GOTM comp. If we can get about 7 others who are willing to compete I think it would be worth while. If not then maybe a succession game might be a better option. come on guys: there must be more than just me, trada and IC who are interested in this!!?

I doubt there are. Quite a few different members have contributed threads and posts to this forum.. but they never really stay. Only a handfull (us).

And you hopefully.

Im in on this

I just got Terra Form from Dack, and its fantastic. It adds a whole new dimension to the game.
Now I can create scenarios. The only problem is I don't make em difficult enough, and I always end up giving myself the advantage.

I think the problem with the Civ1 community is that there is no growth, if you haven't been playing Civ1 in the 90s you ain't gonna start playin now.

...and i wonder why nobody posts his selfmade scenarios...? :D
THAT would be a great point of interest to others (even outside the forum)
if we would release scenarios (and of course competitions).
it's boring to be the only one who tried to do so
(see my sig: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=104554 )
the last year.

LOL:) Everybody wants to have, but nobody wants to organize:)

Guys, start from few. How much people play? 3 or 4? Great! Start competitioon, and if it will be interesting - other people will join afterwards!

No scenario? What can be simplier:

- Play on Earth
- Emperor
- 7 Civilizatons
- English(for a challenge - starts on an island)

That's it! Go:)

that is actually a great scenario and challenge.

Right. Should we do that then? It's pretty darn difficult though (I probably won't even survive).
