Map: - The Promise Land
Size: - 72x144 (10368 Plots)
Date: - Accurate according to 1450 BC
Status: - Everything is completed except resources

Purpose: - This map is being designed for a full MOD of the 12 Tribes of Israel. Details of this will be outlined in the release of the MOD. Currently there is no time frame for the release of the MOD. Everything will be as accurately possible as far as Civ can make it.

Notes: - The Promise Land is one of a large degree of varying heights. This in short makes it difficult to build using Civ's limited height capabilities. However great detail has been committed to preserving the accuracy of the terrain and the geographical data.

Initially this map was 100x144, which because of some handling of memory problems, had to be reduced. So I cut some none intestinal territory off of both the left and right sides of the map. This did allow the preserving of distance and the game play there in.

To Play: - Seeing how there is currently no resources on the map is not really playable. You can however enable the cheat and use the console (~) to Map.generateBonuses and Map.generateGoodies. If you have questions please see this thread. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=145278

Future: - Additional releases of this map will appear. Including one that will contain resources and players starting locations. Time frame of future release is NA.

whee looks like ages of work,
do you think it would be a good idea to be able to load a jpg into mapview and have it 50% transparent so it would be easier to create such maps? I just thought how crazy work is needed to realize such a detailed map.
(since basic editing things already work)

Gr3yHound, Yea a JPG that works like a transparent watermark that is both resizable and movable(with a lock feature) would be really cool. Good idea. And yea this took some time. Several attempts at it before it came about properly.

Looks very good! Will give it a try with default resources added.
Good thing you enlarged the screenshot btw ;)
Is the Jordan river a sea on your map?

Yes, in fact the Jordan river has shoreline squares. So it is traversable by ship. With that, there is some other note able things such as the only land base way to cross it, is over and around the top. I tried several different strategy's with this. And I could not get ships to sail across two squares that only touched by a corner. Unlike units going around mountains.

Being how this will be a north-south battle I think this sea way(Jordan) can become a vital bit of territory. Should make for some interesting game play. There still might be some tweaks in the map to enhance certain area's. Remember the current map is really a version 1.0 from the public eyes.

The end scenario will be one that really has only two religions(Ok maybe a third for paganism). The 2 tribe southern kingdom - Christianity and the 10 tribe northern kingdom - Judaism. Both warfare and religion will play huge roles. And any tribe will be playable. As you might be able to tell the depth of knowledge on this will go very deep into the historical accuracy of each tribe and it's cities.

A matter a fact the outline of resources for the map is being studied in such that each major city is being investigated to determine local resources near and around that vicinity. Being so accurate though makes the time deadline currently post as NA. But trust me it's not out of sight. My knowledge and resources are tremendous. :crazyeye:

Great map, but technically it should be "The Promised Land."

As for the Jordan being uncrossable... I don't know how that will work in terms of gameplay. You would have to station ships there to ferry units across.

...or you could have a special "Ark of the Covenant" unit that can enter the Jordan and then act like a bridge (that is, allow other units to cross over while the ark is in the Jordan). ;)

Yea I thought about Promised vs Promise and really didn't even research it. So I just choose promise. Believe me despite my grammar, English is my first language. hehe If it wasn't for spell check you'd swear I'm lying.

As for the "Ark of the Covenant" unit. Yea I might try something like that. After all they did cross the Jordan twice. ;) But the being able to transport troops via ship surely offers a greater degree of military strategy, so I thought it was worth it. After all the technology side will not alter much over the entire game play.

You could add a workship-like unit that can build a bridge.
Much like the fishing boats built by the workship.
The bridge would be a stationary (0 movement) naval unit with a certain transport capacity :)
Restricting the bridgebuilding ship to coastal waters will effectively prevent bridges crossing the Mediterranean ;)

Thanks Junuxx, I like that idea even better. I'll have to play with the units and see what works best. That's still a ways out...

Hey guys, I just wanted to give an update. I found some valuable information about natural resources at the following location.

http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/israel.html

For all you map makers, this site ended up providing me with some decent information to natural resources in this region so that can they can be more accurately placed. There appears to be some good maps here for locating natural resources from all over the world.:D

Hey Great Map dude.
Some Thoughts

Consider instead of the 12 tribes of Israel, maybe some of the old biblical civilizations of the area. Caananites, philistines, phoencians, etc. etc. I just dont think the 12 tribes would war with each other.

Ciao
