I'm trying to change my settings to medium, but every time i restart
the game, the settings goes back to high, how can i fix that?!

What? nobody has the ansewer to that?!
Or maybe what could cause such a thing?

I had the same problem until I made my changes at the opening screen, exited and reloaded the game. Don't do them while playing. It doesn't seem to keep. Hope this helps.

Go to the folder that you Installed CIV4, right click on it and check the folder ans subfolder attributes. Make sure that the "Read Only" option is disabled, if not, click on it and if it asks you to apply changes to subfolders also, click yes to all. If that doesn't work, try reinstalling the game. :goodjob:

I tried what you suggested, and for some reasone the "read only" option is alway retunring to the checked mode, could it be an OS problem? or is it just another horrible bug of this game, i only know that i did not encounter such problem in my other games or programs....
What would suggest?

Admin privlages? Dont you have to have admin to change the file read?

Well, as Neon Deon suggests, could be an administrator problem. Check that your account have the "Administrator privileges", if not, create one. Keep trying, because if the "Read only" option is enabled, that is maybe the source of the problem. :goodjob:

Well, if you have no clue go to control panel, and select user accounts and check your account, there you will be able to see your privileges. :goodjob:

I have there only password, name and image changing, how do i check my pribileges?

Well, i checked it again and i am the Admin, so, where is the problem?

Right click on the folder and go to properties. Under the general tab close to bottom the read on box should have a green box inside the check box.
Click that box once and the green should go away. Press the apply button at which time another box should come up asking u if you want to do it for just this folder or all folders. I would pick just the folders you want and not all every folder on your computer. If that box does not come up after hitting apply, your changes will not take. This folder can not be in use while you are attempting to change the read either.

Give that a shot see what happens.

That is exactly what i did last time...and nothing, it still keeps being checked, and the settings do not save, i'm losing my mind here!
I think i'll rip one of my arms, that would make me feel better... :)

I remember reading about this in another thread, but it's been a few weeks. IIRC, it had to do with a modified ini file setting that led to this happening. If you've made any ini changes try going back to the default ini and see if the problem continues.

Say, do you know where are the settings are supposed to be saved?
Maybe i can change it there, manually?

New idea, clear your profile information (this probably wouldn't get done by a new install).

C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\My Games\Civilization 4\Profiles

I have this line in the civ4config.ini

; Save Path - relative to working (Civ4) folder
FileName = 0

Should the filename be something other than 0 ?

Aha!!
There is no profiles folder in there, could it get any wierder?!
Are you sure you're looking in under the right user profile? (had to ask)
Do you have "Show hidden files and folders" enabled in the folder options?

; Save Path - relative to working (Civ4) folder
FileName = 0
That's the default setting.
