It is possible to play on the level harder, than Deity.

Open Game.txt

Find that:

@DIFFICULTY
@width=320
@title=Select Difficulty Level
@options
Chieftain (easiest)
Warlord
Prince
King
Emperor
Deity (toughest)

Add 6 strings(doesn't matter what the name of each). For example:

@DIFFICULTY
@width=320
@title=Select Difficulty Level
@options
Chieftain (easiest)
Warlord
Prince
King
Emperor
Deity (toughest)
Deity 2
Deity 3
Deity 4
Deity 5
Deity 6

Close file, save it.

In the game choose Deity 6 level. And play:)

You will see the difference.

The difference:

- on Deity level you can save your city from unhappy people by building warriors
- On Deity 6 level City with LEVEL 1 (ONE) after some turns get unhappy person! The only person in the city is unhappy:) And it happens after FIVE turns! And freshely built warrior doesn't save. Another one - also. And third you can't usually build, because lack of production(you have to make entertainer)
And if you make your city level 2 - you will get one red unhappy person and one black unhappy person:)

- On Deity level the first Wonder AI Civ builds in 800 BC
- On Deity 6 level the first Wonder AI Civ builds in 1900 BC (sometimes it was 2800 BC)

On the next message I will upload 2 files, where you can compare, how does world and the best civilizations in it look like up to 1 AD.

The only bad thing here - you can't save and load that games... But may be this will be fixed.

The first file - 1 AD on Deity Level(the best civ by that time)

The second file - 1 AD on Deity 6 Level(the best civ by that time)

I can say, that playing that level you have no choice, but become a genius in micromanagement :D

The first citizen in next founded city becomes black:)

Sioux came:

- Give us Code of Laws
(I gave)
- Lets make peace!
(I agree)
(I propose - "Lets make an alliance")
- Lets make!
(I propose - "Share Maps")
- No
(I say - "Request a gift from you, our gracious allies")
- We give you our Pottery.

Next turn I contact them:
- We will have no more of this tiresome alliance! Begone from our territory at once! :D

Next turn I contact them:
- We are tired of your vile provocations! Prepare for WAR! :D

Every next turn I contact them:
- We have decided to rid the world of your worthless civilization. Prepare for WAR! :D

Lesson - make alliances, but don't contact them :D

Each level above King the AI civs get production and research "cheats" - their production and beaker boxes get narrower. Take your Deity(+0) game, go into Cheat Mode, and send check out the City Screen for one of the AI civs. Compare that to one from your Deity+6 game. I don't remember exactly, but I think the rows of production get one shield narrower for each level above King? (Emperor=9, Deity=8, D+1=7...?)

i've started games on deity +1 before. they seem to be playable enough and they are savable. i've heard high level deity + games are prone to crashing.

In fact this level(Deity +6) is very interesting. And for those who thought before that Civ2 is very easy, it will make change their minds:)

You can save and load with Civ2 FW (and probably Civ2 calssic but I don't play it.)

It was told that Deity+6 (maybe you mean Deity 6 = Deity + 5) doesn't work or there are some problems. BTW under Deity+5 the shield box is only 2 columns wide so this is a narrower box that may cause problems.

Similarly you can add Barbs (I don't know how many levels).
@BARBARITY
@width=320
@title=Select Level Of Barbarian Activity
@button=Random
@default=2
@options
Villages Only
Roving Bands
Restless Tribes
Raging Hordes
Barbarian Wrath

And you can change the happiness in rules.txt, for example to play Deity+5 with a Deity happiness:
12 ; City size for first unhappiness at Chieftain level
24 ; Riot factor based on # cities (higher factor lessens the effect)

To learn about how to play at the Deity+n levels, you might consider reading some of the many Succession games that we played at those levels.
I think we learned a lot about those higher levels over the couse of playing those games, particularly regarding the early going. Of course, because it's a succession game you have to deal with different people occasionally changing strategy mid-stream and bad attempts (at least from me) at creative writing to go along with the games.

The first (I think) D+1 Succession game (Americans July-Aug '02)
Second D+1 game (Vikings Mar-May '03) This is where I joined the fun.
Moving up to D+2 (China May-Oct '03)
D+3 (Japan Nov '03-Feb '04)
D+3 (France Feb-Oct '04) This was on a map that was picked because it looked like more of a challenge.

Most, if not all, were played with "Barbarian Wrath" as well.

And what about the highest possible? Has anybody played succession games on it(it is Deity+256 or Deity+16 millions - I don't know exactly)?

There is one bad thing about those succession stories - they are for Classic Civ2. They absolutely don't work with MGE, 'cause AIs there don't give you technology every turn and want to cancel alliance each contact.
