Okay, so we have established there are different versions. They end in .01 up to .04 What are the differences? List known bug fixes. Also, are the save files compatible?

Civ 1 DOS (!ENGLiSH language versions!)

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=2575470&postcount=16

from
474.01 ... 474.05 ( 5 civ.exe versions, the usual ones)
and
475.01 ... (same?)

Code:
civ.exe 474.01 = 297kB (304.512 Byte), 311.296
civ.exe 474.03 = 295kB (302.982 Byte), 311.296
civ.exe 474.04 = 295kB (302.982 Byte), 311.296
civ.exe 474.05 = 297kB (305.030 Byte), 311.296

of course there were & are game bugs within civ.1.dos they'd try to fix ( up to ~1993?) -
so we can expect that the 474.05 is more bug-free than the 474.03...
but i can't confirm anything and can't remember a discussion here at forum about the versions, so thanks for this push, Alex! :)
the only thing i remember is that
somebody did mention that
JUST the civ.exe was affected by the version changes
and no other files within the CiV folder -
so you can (re)place the 474.05 civ.exe in the CiV folder
with the 474.01 civ.exe (if you have any of those)
and the game will run properly.

civ 474.01 (year: 1991?)
the first official 'in store' version.
the only one which allows the developers shift-56 cheat
more exactly

SHiFT + 5 (or) "%"
(+) 6 (or) "^"
(+) t
(+) t
Shift-56 (sometimes shift 1 to 8) cheat, only available in 47*.01
It was the player-test mode for Microprose play testers. Refresh the map after pressing Shift 1-8 (by moving the cursor or pressing t twice) and you will see the map of the whole world. You can click on the cities of other players and unfortify their troops and sell their city improvements

F7 will show you the development profile of each civilization, showing you all their advances and allowing you to see if they have a vendetta against you.

F8 shows you the powergraph and allows you to see a replay up to that point.

F9 shows numbers representing the attack points, defense points, and 3 of the cities the computer uses to calculate battle, on each continent (along with giving the size of each continent in land squares.

F10 shows a complete world map.

The other function keys sometimes do their normal functions, but they mess up the display a lot of the time. Just a word of warning.
the ideal test-version for scenario designers. ;)
