Hello, just a quick poll, I was wondering what percent of us had no problems with CIV4 out of the box. thought to post in the Tech forum, but all of us there have problems.

worked great for me. Bit of an obvious slowdown towards the end of larger games... so I just have to win faster!

I actually had more problems after the patch than before (at least that is what is seemed to me). It seemed to work fine out of the box.

However Harkonnen's patch has me working just fine again. Thanks Harkonnen!

Well, if your asking whether it started... it did. If your asking whether it ran graphically... it did. If your asking whether there were numerous bugs, memory leaks, etc.... there were / are.

The game is by no means fully functional, but I'm not sure that was the 'problems' you were refering to. I could / can run the game, but I still have problems with it.

hello, thanks all for the response. to clarify. 'working out of the box' means that you were able to at least finish one game (of any size) without a problem.

I had a tiny graphical glitch which was solved by unpacking the art0.pak file, then no problems whatsoever.

I had to load the latest video codecs, but after that, the game ran perfectly. A lot less hassle than a lot of other games I've tried to play.

I had the "bread only" problem but the patch solved that. Plus the game was really slow untill I upgraded from 512 to 748mb. Now, only have the "visible floodplains' problem plus extreme slowdown once in a blue moon

Well I've only played the demo so far but that worked obsolutly fine on all levels of zoom and no slow down what so ever. Has anybody tried the demo first then the game? Please could you tell me if its a good indicator as to how well it'll work. I'm only on a 512MB Centrino processor (which I think is clocked at 900MHz) but it seems to be quite efficent (perhaps the 1MB of cache - its a laptop BTW) and is even able to run HL2: Lost Cost which is meant to require 1GB RAM and 1.5(ish)MHz (basicaly its very high demand so I shouldn't have problems with Civ).

I had to update my video drivers before it would run;

I, too, had the 'bread only' issue...but the patch fixed that.

Otherwise, no problems...it has run fast and smooth, even with multiplayer.

Hmmm, this poll seems to directly contradict the earlier one that certain forumers were holding up as "proof" that "a large percentage of people can't play the game"....shows just how (in)accurate forum polls are.

According to this one, as it is now, it's only 1 in 42 people that are having a critical issue with the game!

I guess we can all take these polls a little less seriously in terms of their applicability to the whole cIV-playing population.

I had no problems running the game out of the box, and my computer is below spec. I use the Harkonnen patch to clean up some memory problems in the end game, but nothing else.

As for polls, this poll is only 2 hours old, give it some time. And normally the only people who take the time to say anything, are the people having problems. If you aren't having a problem, you just continue playing, sometimes you may say something, but not often.

i voted yes...though i should qualify that...

on my main gaming system at home..yes works great..

on another much less capable system...crash to desktop during wonder movies and other graphics issues using its geforce 4MX 400 video
