Hi all. Had a freeze/crash forced to reboot problem then used Harrakonen's patch which seemed to fix it. Then installed 1.52 and crashed a lot. Set Harrakonen's patch = off and seemed to alleviate a good bit of the freeze/crash but it still occurs at random times. Usually once an hour or so. Monitor gets crazy random colors on it and the computer locks up and must be turned off and back on.

Graphics are set to med/low

Any ideas?

AMD 3000+ 2.16ghz
2 gig ram
6800 GT OC (factory)
All windows and drivers updated
directx 9.0c
xp sp2

I had to do a clean install. Uninstall then run a search to find/remove any leftover civ4 files. Then reinstall and patch.

ok removed and erased all folders and did clean install and patch. Still happens. Help....

6800 gt overclocked.

Do you have temp monitor of any kind?

How old is the card?

Is the card on its own power connection with no other devices attached to it?

What size is the power supply?

Have you opened the case and verified that the graphics card fan is spinning?

yes Graphics card is nowhere near its cutoff temp

2 or 3 months old

400w own connection

yes side cover is off

I play a lot of current games on high graphics detail with absolutely no lag or stuttering. I try Civ4 on lowest and it still crashes. And it started happening at 1.52 version so I think it might be patch related

What was the original card that was in your system>

Have you tried to run it with AA, fastwrites, write combining, and vsync off?

I have this same problem and I also have a 6800Gt the graphics become corrupted and then the screen shuts downand i then have to do a reset.I dont think this is patch related because i have had this problem since the game was released and neither patch so far has fixed it.

Neon AA is set to app controlled not sure about fastwrites and write combining and vsync. couldnt find those in my properties

Brashagent Which driver are you using?

Sounds exactly the same as my problem. Computer has to be manually shut down (power button) and restarted. My other games work fine.

what is the rest of your computer? chip/mobo/soundcard?

My soundcard is realtek 97 but I disabled sound for the game and still get lockups randomnly. Anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour. Really friggin sucks.

I have a Realtek also with AMD 3700+ ,MSI motherboard. The driver i am using for my video card right now is the newst one just downloaded it the other day but old drivers dont seem to fix the problem either.

I have an ASUS MB I wonder if that Realtek is causing the problem. I might try to disable it in my system later and see what happens.

Also have AMD, at this point I am just grasping at straws though.

Bump!

I'm having the same issues. However, I'm not using onboard audio. I'm using an Audigy 2 ZS and have updated the drivers.

As everyone else has stated in this thread (seemingly) I'm using a 6800 GT OC card. Mine is by BFG Tech. I'm using the lastest nVidia Forceware drivers. (81.98)

Everything runs fine for about 20-30 turns. There is no deterioration of playability. Suddenly, the video crashes. Everything looks like "white noise" on a TV, with some color still... and my mouse cursor is "visible", but it's a square about 1"x1".

Attached dxdiag.txt
