Upon a new game starting with the 1.52 patch newly installed, when usually the button would appear "Play Game" after everything is initialized, I get a message that says this:

FATAL_ERROR
Your system has run out of video memory. Please trying reducing [sic] your video settings.
File:\main\civilization4.bak\SKDs\Gamebryo2_0\CoreLibs\NiDX9Renderer\NiDX9RenderedTextureData.cpp, Line:167

OK

What the hell does that mean? Other than the maddening "trying reducing" grammar error, it seems like it's trying to tell me something.

Oh yeah, and there's another error when I click OK:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program: ...raxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Civilization4.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

OK

I would REALLY appreciate help, without being slammed or called an idiot, please.

Hey there we go! That's the same error i'm getting. Every D@nm turn. Load Civ4, start to scroll over the world, CTD. Rinse and repeat. I'm glad to hear i'm not the only one with this problem. Did you start getting this after the 1.52 patch? I was running 1.09 just fine and I thought I would upgrade to save myself any hardships from not upgrading and wham! now the game is almost unplayable.

I'm getting it too.

I skipped the v1.09 patch and just downloaded the v1.52 patch today.

I only loaded the game into my computer last night and it was running fine on v1.00. I have been trying changing the video settings with no luck. Will keep you posted, but would like to hear from someone with a little more computer suavy (which I don't have).

Right now I'm stuck and can't play.

Joel

I got it to work (at least for now).

I set my game options, graphic opions to "LOW" all the way around. This at least let me start a game.

I haven't done anything during gameplay to see if crashes will happen.

It's annoying I use to be able to play the game on HIGH graphics options before the download and now I can't. Would like to know why.

Joel

I was able to play it on HIGH graphics settings before, too. Please, somebody tell me what's going on.

Yep, I got this same message the first time I tried to play after installing 1.52. I have an older 32MB NVidia graphics card, and I was playing using low resolution graphics. This setting was apparently reset to high when I installed the patch. I went to the options screen and reset the graphics to low, restarted the game, and am able to play (so far).

I get the same thing. Thinkpad 1.8Ghz Centrino, 64Mb ATi Card, 1Gb RAM.

This also occurs regularly no matter what the graphics level (low, med, or high)

I started happening on my Terra maps, in the late 20th, early 21st centuries, as I was nuking other countries. There were no problems when I stayed focused on my own 26% of available land.

Second crash on second day's play. Is this the f***ing beta version?

Got roughly similar message to kbmusiclover:

"Your system has run out of video memory. Please trying reducing your video settings.
File:\main\civilization4.bak\SKDs\Gamebryo2_0\Corelibs\NiDX9Renderer\NiDX9VBManager.cpp,line1018"

This despite having a 128Mb video card which is the RECOMMENDED not the MINIMUM CARD.

Going to churlishly reduce video settings now and see if it happens again.

Ok, this game has again become unplayable with 1.52. The game crashes literally every turn on a Terran map with low graphics settings in late game. This is silly.

I heartily recommend a return to the Harkonnen patch, or really hope that he comes out with a 1.52 patch level soon.

i can't agree more. I was running just the 1.09 patch and didn't have this many problems. My question is...does anyone have a link to the 1.09 patch?

Thank you!

guys go into the ini file and find the nobink=0 line (hope i got it right, the line that controls movies) and change it. It will disabled all videos but you won't get the error again... at least i haven't.

I have only gotten the error when one of the wonder/religion videos runs.

hey everyone...long time civ player, first time posting..unfortunately its about this problem....the first few times i could restart my comp and then play, now i can't do anything...as soon as i try to load up i get this error

I also get this error after the 1.52 patch. I did go back to 1.09 and harks patch and I am able to play

same thing here ....worked fine before the patch so i put the patch on....now that pop up...:( SO i uninstalled everything now when i try to start a game the thing crashes :( I hate it, I do...makes me want to drown all my Sims:(

:bump:
bump, because i'm getting this same error and haven't been able to play at all since upgrading to 1.52

any word on a 1.53 patch coming up? this has been, for me, a big jump backwards in stability.
