Hi,
I gave Civ iv to a friend for Christmas- he has returned it to me to see if it works on my PC (it does). His problem is that it seems to install ok until you want to start the game, at that point he gets - "Please insert the correct CD-Rom, select OK and restart application". The trouble is that he does not have two CD-Roms, he has one DVD instead. He does not have an internet connection
so he cannot use the "Click here for more information on your error" link.
His PC is about a year old, has the required spec and he has Directx 9.
Any ideas someone?

Is his one drive a burner too.

If so, does he have burner software?

If so, he could try removing the burner software and seeing if that works?

This one should be easy, they mislabled the play disk. The install disk is the play disk :).

If that isn't it, it is copy protection that is incompatable with your CD-Drive.

Good luck, Pat

This isn't a case of mislabeled CD disks, Pat. The OP said the disk is a single DVD... big difference, there is only one disk!

Others have had this problem and I have yet to see an answer to it. :(

I have had no problems with my DVD. All I did was stick it in the drive and there it stays, ready to play whenever I want it to. For what it's worth I have two drives - the first is a DVD-ROM (my Civ install & play drive) and the second is a burner (with Nero installed). I get the impression that it's best to use the first drive in the list to install certain things so I always do that as a matter of course now, even though my (newer) DVD burner is faster.

Use "sd4hide.exe" (safedisc4 hide), download it and use before running the game (search on google for it). It works, I solved this same problem this way.

There should be a sticky about this problem, every day 2-3 new threads are about pls insert the correct cd-rom.

Thanks for the idea. I tried, but it still doesn't work. :(
Any suggestions would be very appreciated. thanks in advance!

I have this problem from time to time. (I have the DVD version.)

Last time it reared it's ugly head, I got civ to run by rebooting pc, and immediatly as soon as I could, started civ4, while windows was still loading stuff(network, antivirus, etc).

Maybe if you are fast enough, you can launch civ before it's stupid copy protection kicks in?

Thanks for the reply. What I didn't mention is that when I first tried to run Civ4 on my friends computer, and it too worked. After that we were unable to to get it to load again. We will see if your method works on a regular basis, if not I will try the the technical support email address and if it still doesn't work I will have to return Civ4. Its a pity as that is about all he plays.

For the CD version, I had the same error that was fixed by using Disk one instead of Disk 2. Fireaxis mislabled it, and they say so on thier web site.
Normally with games, the play disk is disk one.

Sorry

I can't help you even I believed so.
